SDMB Santo Rugger
For those of you who may not read the SDMB as regularly anymore, Santo Rugger was in a pretty bad motorcycle accident and is currently in a coma. The thread where you can leave your good wishes and where updates will be posted is here.

Such sad news. I posted already in the thread over there but Santo Rugger is one of the best. My rugby days are long gone and I really enjoyed hearing him talk about the game and breaking the 1000 lbs barrier in the powerlifts, those things are so unimportant now. I just hope we hear from him again now

Me too. He is one of my favorite posters ever. I hope that Cluricaun is sucessful in getting an address for folks to send cards.
I saw some guys out on the freeway tonight, driving their bikes fast and popping wheelies. Usually I pay them no mind but tonight it made me think of Santo. I hope he can recover from this. ![]() |

Shit, that sucks. I took a tumble last week too; was lucky to get through relatively unscathed.
I hope Santo makes it back. |

I'll keep him in my thoughts. This is bad news. But the update is hopeful.

I need to stop skimming threads. I read the "broken legs and arm" part and somehow completely missed the "in the coma" part.
Sending healing vibes. |

I'll keep you updated from now on. I didn't know there was a thread on the Giraffe as well.
PM me for an adress if you want to send him a card. (and yes - very much a "she" and a huge fan of Santo) |

The lastest update from his FB-profile:
FINALLY some good news! The doctors told your parents today that you are improving and trying to pull out of it. It looks like to it just a matter of time now. Keep up the fight, buddy!!! Also: His mother posted on the dope ![]() |

Good gravy... I'm glad I came across this only now, after the news has started getting better. Thanks for starting the thread, hajario, and for the updates, Ulla.

And more good news from facebook:
A tiny little nurse moved you so you could sit upright today. Your right eye is beginning to follow suit with the left and is trying so hard to wake up. Every day you move just a little bit more, react just a little bit more. You're putting up a helluva fight boy-o. I've talked to the nurses about possibly getting you some Tecate, but apparently it has no nutritional value. When you wake up, you can help me convince them otherwise. |

Good news from his facebook-profile:
For everyone who is keeping tabs on Pat's status, he has now been moved from UNMH to Kindred Hospital. It is a rehabilitation center, so this is a REALLY good thing! I will have more info in the days to come. |

Good news from SantoRuggerMom - he's getting better all the time:
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/...&postcount=171 And from the FB: I finally got to see your right eye! It was nice to be there today when you weren't completely "asleep". You were moving around a lot and squeezing my hand. |

I don't have much to tell. But this is the latest news from his facebook-profile:
"I got to hear your voice! They put a voice cap on your trach so I got to hear you groan (he he). Still looking good. I can so tell when you are "awake" and when you are "asleep". Can you for real wake up now?" |

I'd like to dedicate my 1000th post (yep, this one!) to my good friend Santo Rugger. I'm thinkin' about ya every day, man. Ulla and I are getting lazy without you around to flog us, so we need you back pronto. Love ya.

I'm not about to assume anyone's place or stature, but if you two ever need a surrogate...
Best wishes to Santo, though I never met him. |

Six million just doesn't buy what it used to these days.
Still, I can't help but wonder how a bionic player would impact future mafia games. |

![]() We don't need you to be a surrogate Zeener - but feel free to flog us both anytime you're up to it. Not many are brave enough to take on both of us at one time - but we're ready for any man (or woman) that will give it a go. |

And then we have GREAT news from his facebook-profile:
Hey Everyone - Some really great news - Patrick was accepted at Craig Rehab in Denver. We are trying to get him moved on Wednesday. The insurance company won't cover the transport cost. So while I know everyone has helped raise a lot of money. To fly Pat will cost at least $6,000 - probably closer to $8,000 if I can't find a non profit. So please spread the word that if possible we need to raise some more money. You can go into or send a check to any Wells Fargo for the Patrick Garcia Donation Fund, c/o Frank and Sherry Garcia, Santa Fe NM Pat has been making progress and Craig has a 6wk intensive program that is specialized for patients with brain injuries. This is very very good news and will give Pat all the help he needs to make a recovery. |
