Do you know your blood type?
In this post from the Spinal Durp thread, URT mentions not knowing her own blood type:
This got me curious. I know mine (B+), and I wonder how many people actually know theirs. Post yours, here, if you know it, or if you don't know, say so. |

Don't know. Probably should find out, you never know when you might get leaky all of a sudden.

I'm a regular blood donor. O+

I know I'm B, because we did a lab testing our own blood type in HS biology, but I don't know if I'm B+ or B-.

That'd make you B-, because if I remember right A and B are both dominant to O.

I don't know mine. I'd really like to, but I haven't been able to donate blood because I keep getting tattoos and piercings, so the opportunity has never come up for me to find out. I kind of want to get a blood typing kit just to figure it out.

It's on my Canadian Blood Services card in my wallet but, no, I do not know it. I think it would be a good idea to memorize it but I'm still not going to get up and go check right now.

Universal donor here (O- ), as is my son. Don't know my husbands type. (He's not son's father)

Yep, I'm O-. Good for donating, sucks when it comes to receiving.

Don't know, don't care. I know from experience that even if you have a blood donor card with your blood type on it, if you need an emergency transfusion they will still type you before giving you blood.

yep, this exactly. Let me guess, the Red Cross has you on speed dial for any donor event within 50 miles? They are relentless! And I go as often as I can.

I know I'm B+. I find it somewhat amusing that Husband doesn't know his, seeing as his blood was the subject of so much scrutiny for the past 26yrs of his life. He said the subject never came up. Dunno what the girlies are, either.
I know my dad's O- because the Red Cross called so often when I lived at home that we knew the different scheduling people by voice. They're all over him like stink on a monkey. |

I've no idea. To my knowledge, I've never had it tested, but if I have I've never been told.

I'm AB-positive. My blood's useless to everyone except other AB-positives.
![]() I know I can still donate plasma or platelets, but my dad (who gave blood every eight weeks for decades) got very sick from those procedures. |

I'm A-. They had an employee wellness fair that was offering blood typing, so Canadian Blood Services could decide who to pounce on. They were very excited by mine, until I told them I'd had a tattoo done a couple of months previously. I ought to give them a call and schedule a donation, now that I've passed the 6-month mark, and before I get the next tattoo I'm thinking of.

O-neg, which reminds me, I haven't donated in a while. 2 years. Perhaps I'll go on my day off tomorrow.

I'm O+. I gave blood once, wound up face first on the floor. Haven't repeated that experience.

I'm B+. My mom was AB-. Back then, there was no RhoGAM. (I'm ancient)
I was her second, maybe third child. I had a good chance of not surviving, but survive I did, much to her chagrin. When she finally married, he husband was AB- too, so my (half) siblings had no worries. |

![]() I can imagine not knowing your blood type if you've never had relevant medical issues or if you've never gone to give blood.

I used to know, back in the days when I donated. It just never seemed important enough to waste valuable long-term storage space on however, so I really have no idea now.
