Scooby Doo Guest-Stars
On the Phyllis Diller thread we were discussing The New Scooby Doo Movies, the period in Scooby's career in the early 70's when the meddling kids and their dog were teaming up each episode with a different celebrity guest-star. It was a very strange show, as one can gather from this list of guest-stars:
The Three Stooges (Twice) (Celebrity voices impersonated) Batman and Robin (Twice) The Addams Family Jonathan Winters Don Knotts (Twice) Phyllis Diller Sandy Duncan Sonny and Cher Laurel and hardy (Celebrity voices impersonated) The Harlem Globetrotters (Three times) Davy Jones Jerry Reed Josie and The Pussycats Jeannie and Babu (Not I Dream of Jeannie but the cartoon spinoff version) Tim Conway Don Adams Speed Buggy Cass Elliot Dick Van Dyke If you want specific episode details you can Google the show like I did. There's only so much I can type, man. |

Jerry Reed is interesting because his (animated) appearance on the show seems to have kickstarted his interest in acting.
Batman and Robin, did West and Ward do the voices or did Kasey Kasem do double duty as Shaggy and Robin? |

Re: Batman and Robin. It definitely was not West and Ward, at least not according to Wikipedia. Batman was voiced by someone named Olan Soule or therebouts. Casey Kasem did indeed do Robin, and Larry Storch, of all people, played The Joker.

Well, sure, Olan Soule was the voice for Batman in the "Superfriends". Naturally they would've gotten him to do the voice for Batman.

Yeah, but this was before the Super Friends Show. Actually, the Batman episodes were a trial balloon to gauge audience reaction.

Phyllis Diller did an episode of Robot Chicken which spoofed Scooby Doo and slasher movies.

Should note, while a 'Best Of' collection and the Harlem Globetrotters and Batman episodes have been released on DVD, a New Scooby Doo Movies: The Complete Series set is reportedly extremely unlikely due to the legal difficulties in securing permission from all the 'Guest Stars', their heirs and/or their copyright holders.

Aha, here's the one I was thinking of. The "Batman / Superman Hour" was prior to Scooby-Doo. Olan Soule also voiced Batman in those.

Okay, so why do I remember Johnny Cash in cartoons? I just looked him up on IMDB and it doesn't look like he did any cartoon appearances. Who am I thinking of then?

Jerry Reed, maybe? He did some of those country-style songs.

That's it. I googled Mr. Reed and got this pic

You mistook Jerry Reed for Johnny Cash???
![]() ![]() ![]() That's enough to get you dragged behind a truck in some places, boy. (Seriously, Johnny did guest on Sesame Street, so that's something...) |

Not the human! I had hazy memories of the cartoon. In my memory the cartoon version had black hair.
ETA: And didn't wear orange. I definitely do not remember an orange shirt. |

Yeah, don't ever admit that in Tennessee, I promise.
I always loved when the Globetrotters were on there.

Jerry Reed and Johnny Cash would be superficially similar if you weren't a country fan. Hey, their names both start with J and their last names are both 4 letters, and they both wear button-up shirts and have southern accents!
