Wow, I forgot how short the uniform skirts were. And that lots of us wore skirts that short. OK, I did. A couple times.
McCoy's scenery-chewing was up there with Kirk's. Uhura is great but was not written to be even as essential as Chekov, ffs. Surprise! I'm voting for Uhura because she was the one woman character who did Not have a thing for Kirk, and there were so few black women on shows with people of different colors. Yea. |

Yeah, Uhura's role was pioneering in its way, but when it comes to a question of the better character, there's barely a choice to be made. At another time the show might have made more use of Nichols's talents; still, I guess there was only so much ground they could break at one time.

I haven't been voting for Uhura myself, but I did vote for Star Trek itself, in the TV show megapoll, largely on the strength of social relevance and historical importance, so I can't object to Uhura support on those grounds.
The poll is indeed for the better character, but it's up to you what "better" means. |
