Moderators have been assigned
I went ahead and modded up people using the proposed layout from this thread.
New mods, please test things out and make sure you're able to do what you're supposed to be able to do. Key capabilities you should have are: * options to close/move threads in the Thread Tools pulldown * the ability to edit other people's posts * receive emails when someone reports a post in your forum * an unjustified sense of importance in the grand Internet scheme of things * a link on the bottom right of the page (between home and Archive) to the Mod control panel. From there, you should be able to ban people or stick them in The Box. I'm not sure if the permissions are set to give you the ability to edit threads and posts in forums that you're not moderating -- I want you all to be able to do this, so you can help others out when they're not around, so let me know if you can't do this. |

I can only do most Mod-like functions in my own forums and not any of the others. It looks like I can give infractions (whatever the hell that is) anywhere but can only move and merge threads and see IPs in my places.

I can't change user titles--actually I can, but I can't save 'em.
I can do the infraction thing too. Although you seem to be immune Giraffe. |

Also, a few suggested guidelines for moderating, at least to start:
1. As a general rule, don't mod in forums you're not assigned to. Exceptions to this are spammers or very disruptive trolls, which should be handled by whomever notices them first. If you see rule infractions, report the posts so the forum mods can handle them consistently. 2. For now, let's not close threads unless they're duplicates. If they aren't up to par for a given forum (e.g. a PPR thread which is just a link and a rolleyes, or a Pit thread Pitting ice cream for being nummy), feel free to stick them in The Box. If we start getting long threads which have devolved into a couple of people chatting, we should probably revisit this, but for now, let's err on the side of a light hand. 3. For any forums where specific forum guidelines are likely to be necessary, e.g. PPR, JTF, the Pit, it's probably a good idea to initiate a discussion within that forum about what role the moderators should take in helping the forum achieve it's purpose. Please put any forum-specific rules or guidelines in a single sticky at the top. That's all I can think of for now. New mods, don't hesitate to ask questions here or over email/PM. There are a lot of vB savvy users here, so posting in GS will likely be the fastest route to figuring stuff out. |

OK, I think you all need to be Super Moderators, then. Hold on...

It looks like the infraction function is a way for Mods to ding posters for doing something bad. A system can be set-up such that for so many infractions a user could be banned or suspended or something. Just to be clear, we aren't using this function at the Giraffe Boards. |

All systems seem to be go over here.
Including the unjustified sense of importance. I'll totally ban the barista if she's slow with my coffee today. Mwahahaha. |

I DID have the power to infract you Hajiro, but now I don't. Being a super-moderator is my Kryptonite!

I like the guidelines. We probably need to make it very clear that we are moderating for the rare times that we're doing it. I think that the best way is with [Mod] [/Mod] tags. If the tags aren't there then it should be assumed that we're being regular posters and are free to be ignored and/or called cunts.

You should use a mod title, a mod tag, mod colors and a mod smiley. And if you could put MOD, in all caps, between each word, I think that would be excellent. Thank you.

Didn't someone else suggest "Mod Thong on/off?" I liked that one, hope it wins.

It's next to the post number, with a picture of yellow and red cards. I just gave you an infraction for not knowing this.

Then it's definitely too sexy. I've been known to lick toes and "get down" with feet, if ya know what I mean. Throw in some hot oil, and that's one hell of an evening, let me tell you.

As far as denoting mod-itude goes, I've always been partial to "You've been here long enough to know better. Do NOT do this again." How's that?
Just kidding. |

Oh yea, Mr. Rogers just oozes sexuality. Especially considering the fact he's been dead for six years.
I actually love Mr. Rogers, so I'm allowed to poke fun at him. He's a Pittsburgh guy, and we'll always have Paris. |

I was actually thinking of just having the mods start every post with "Listen, you little shit," It sets the right tone for whatever is to follow.

I'm thinking more "Listen, you little shit. That's a little off-topic, but an excellent point so let's spin it into it's own motherfucking thread where it can be discussed on it's on goddamned merits."

I'm a stealth mod! I show up on the mod page but my title is still charter member . I'm not as special as everyone else though cuz I'm not a super moderator.

Congratulations to all of you (yes, Fenris, even you) on your lofty new positions. No doubt you'll earn every penny of your outrageous salaries and multi-million dollar bonus packages.
*snicker* As for the rest of us, I suppose we'll all have to start behaving ourselves. *snicBWAHAHAHAHAHA* OK, seriously...Giraffe couldn't have picked a better crew. May your thongs never chafe. ![]() |

No thongs for me! Panties maybe. Or socks. I hate socks - making me put on mod socks is a good way to ensure not much moderation from me.
On a more serious note, how do we feel about moving threads? As it stands, I think the line between GBB and YTC is pretty blurry - do we want to clarify and sort (for the future, that is) or let be? |

I do think we should have clear guidelines about which threads belong in which forums, and move them when they're in the wrong place. (For example, I'd probably stick all the "Ask the..." threads in Y2C.) We haven't really defined exactly where the boundaries are, though, so I'd say let's use threads we think are misplaced as examples to start off discussions on what should and shouldn't be in each forum.

So this is how democracy falls: with jokes and one-liners.
