Unvarnished Truths is a blog depicting my attempts to write about things I make, and about things that interest me. Sometimes I may try to explain why this is so, or why something was built a certain way as opposed to another, but usually I am not successful. I think about the best that readers can hope for is to be mildly entertained.
A Simple Clock

It doesn't get much more simple than this...find a piece of wood you like, drill a big hole in it, stick in a battery operated clock fitting into the hole. The wood is a piece of Osage Orange, sent to me by Random Precision. I had to sand a couple of flat spots so I could put a clamp on it for the drill press. A 2 3/8" Forstner bit transmits a great deal of torque to the work piece...certainly more than I'm willing to try to hold with just my hand. I also had to sand a spot so it would sit flat onto the fireplace mantel.
