Unvarnished Truths is a blog depicting my attempts to write about things I make, and about things that interest me. Sometimes I may try to explain why this is so, or why something was built a certain way as opposed to another, but usually I am not successful. I think about the best that readers can hope for is to be mildly entertained.
Pens (again)

A rollerball made from a pinecone stuffed with plastic. I didn't take a picture with the cap removed 'cause I was lazy.

Here are three pens, all the same style but dressed differently. The pen in the center, which sort of looks like it was made from smoke, is an acrylic. The white band repairs the part that broke off while I was drilling the hole. A pretty blank, but difficult to work with. Another piece broke off when I was assembling it. CA glue is the pen maker's friend. The lighter of the two wooden pens is from a Signature tree, which grows in Hawaii. It may grow other places, but Hawaii is the only one I know of. The darker pen with the grip rings is made from Oregon Black Myrtle. Myrtle is an interesting wood...more impressive in larger pieces like table tops and bowls, but easy to work with and not bad looking as a pen.
