Water in the basement

Posted 27th April 2009 at 08:33 AM by AuntiePam

Sigh. Plumber coming. About two inches of water on the floor, which is half tile and half carpet. Dammit.

There was some clean kitty litter on the floor next to the cat box. The water expanded it from tiny granules to big blobs. I have no way to clean it up until the water's gone. How embarrassing! I suppose the plumber's seen worse, but still . . .

And the carpet cleaning machine is on the fritz, so I don't know how I'll get the water out of the carpet. Phooey!

Aw, that's just rotten. I feel for you: BTDT... outgrew the t-shirt years ago.

Do you happen to have a wet/dry shop vac? Those things work wonders!

Okay, we had a mini water incident of our own. My hubby was doing water changes in our aquariums, and when he did mine, the tubing he was using to add water back into the tank slipped out. We have no idea how much rain water is now in the carpet of the den.

Tried the shop vac -- it sucks, but not in the good way.

I might call Servicemaster. The carpet needed cleaning anyway.

I was gonna say... the objective of the shop vac *was* to suck.

Sounds like you have a solid plan of attack lined up. Good deal. Sometimes ya just gotta let the professionals take on the tough jobs.

Yay, the carpet's dry! Big Dawg came yesterday with his 28 horsepower water sucky thing. He left a huge dehumidifier behind and it's been running all night. Humidity is down to 50 from 72. He'll be back today to clean the carpet.

Next step is to install a sump pump. Daughter's BF says he can do this for us.
