Stick to the fresh stuff: lots of salads, cubed cheese, sliced fruit...maybe some chicken & noodle soup if you want something warm? If you're interested in a recipe for good soup with home made noodles let me know.

Actually, that sounds great, Wednesday! I'd love to hear it.

I've been craving mostly fruits and, funny enough, salads just recently. Those nachos were a one-off, and I didn't even get to try them. :gross:

I have a few new aversions: mayo, peanut butter, and pizza. Beloved pizza! I get all kinds of icky feeling when I smell it.

It's the melted cheese. Stick with the cold stuff. It'll pass eventually.

This is a very simple chicken soup recipe, but I've found that sometimes simple is best:

    noodles:

    4 c. flour
    4 x-large eggs
    pinch salt

sift the flour into a large bowl and make a well in the center. Add all the eggs and the salt. Break the yolks and with a fork, start beating the eggs. A little at a time, add flour from the center until most of it is incorporated. At that point, you'll need to take it out of the bowl and knead it on a floured surface until elastic. Refrigerate for about a half hour and work on the soup while it's resting. Afterward, roll out the dough to less than 1/4" thickness. Roll the sheet up and slice the roll into 1/2" rounds. Slice the rounds in half and allow to dry some.

    Soup:

    4 c. chicken stock
    2 c. water
1/2 onion (color of your choice, but purple is sweeter)
    3-4 carrots, sliced into medallions
    3 stalks celery, chopped
3 chicken breasts with rib meat, sliced into bite size chunks
noodles (about half of the above recipe works; I usually freeze the rest). You can use egg noodles if you don't feel like making fresh.
    salt, pepper
    2 Bay leaves
(I also add a dash o' tabasco but you can leave that out)

Get the stock and water going up to a low boil and add the veggies. While that's going, saute the chicken and onions in some EVOO until just browned, then add to the soup. Let it go for a good hour, then add the noodles. All told, it should take about two hours from fridge to bowl. Salt and pepper to taste. You can also add tomatoes since you're craving them so hard right now.

You probably won't get any weird cravings until the last couple of months, but if you are anything like my wife, the smell thing will really restrict your diet for the next several.

Fun story about my wife's pregnancy. Her favorite food in the world is roast chicken. Hands down if she could have anything to eat at any time it would always be roast chicken with red potatoes. So one day after begging me for a week to make her a chicken dinner I finally got to the store, picked up a chicken and made us a fancy roast chicken dinner on Saturday to celebrate after a particularly rough week at work. It took a few hours to make all told.

She was about 10 weeks pregnant at the time, and by the time the chicken was out of the oven the smell made her so sick that she forced me to remove the whole chicken and all the side dishes from the apartment. Everything had to go to the dumpster immediately or else.

She wasn't even able to talk about chicken again until about month 7 and she wasn't able to eat it again until the day after the baby was born. She had a similar reaction to broccoli and onions.

As far as I can tell everyone has something that sets them off and it's different for everyone. But it's one of those things you can always look back on later and laugh about.

Yes, I would say it's the food aversions that are strongest right now. I haven't had any cravings that I would consider irresistible. Yes, the tomato thing is strong, but I feel like I want them, whereas the aversions are so strong as to be like I CANNOT LIVE WITH THIS FOOD/SMELL FOR EVEN A SECOND LONGER GET IT AWAY FROM ME RIGHT NOW OR I WILL HURT SOMEONE.

    This is unusual.

Also, on my next day off, I'm making Wednesday's nommy-sounding soup! I subscribe to Gordon Ramsay's theory of keeping things neat and simple*, and this looks like just the ticket.

*- terrible nachos notwithstanding. Every now and then, everyone wants to eat something horrible.
