Melted plastic on electric hotplate
Yep, I was cooking my oatmeal and after turning off the burner I dropped a plastic lid on it. I quickly removed the lid but I've got two spots of melter plastic stuck to the element. How can I clean/remove the plastic without damaging the element? Or will I have to replace it? The melted portions are about size of standard chocolate chips, I think they will take awhile to burn themselves off. I'd rather remove them while the element is cool.

Pfft, burning them off would be much more fun. What kind of man are you?

The kind who lives in a small house with a small kitchen that would stink of burnt plastic if I did that.

After you pop the lumps off, heat up the stove with all the windows open and burn off the residue. It's going to happen anyway and shouldn't hurt the element. The element is somewhat porous and AFAIK there is no other way to get the stuff off. Don't breath that shit. I'd leave the house for a few minutes and keep tabs on it through a window.

That would be a bad time to lock yourself out. Friendly tip.

I used the blade from a linoleum knife to scrape the plastic off. It looks clean, but I'll let it burn off before I use it. Jag, your idea sounds best.
