Oscars: Best song MEGAPOLL - Play in round

Come closer, gather around.

To get this to 128 we need more songs. There have been 89 winners from inception up to last year (Naatu Naatu) so I need 39 more. I'll be damned if I'm going to try to make a proper poll with all nominees, exclude winners and try to set that up. So this is write in.

Here is a list of all nominations and winners - And a big thanks to Zeener who put them all together in a sticky.

Pick as many as you like from the nominees. There are songs that were in movies that were not even nominated, but that way lies madness for this first time Megapoll runner.

Some time early next week I'll look through and present a list of the 39 runner ups that will get a second chance against an unworthy winner. Please use the format from the table (though not in table form), i.e.

Name of the movie "Name of the song"

I don't want writers, who sang it or anything else. Keeping the name of the song within "quote marks" make it easier to pick out the title.

GO!

Lots of sophisticated picks so far, so I'll bring the cheesy fun:

Trolls "Can't Stop the Feeling!"

And in case you whittle down the lists above, I'll also advocate for "Rainbow Connection" and "Mean Green Mother from Outer Space".

The Magic Christian, "Come and Get It"
  • Included on the soundtrack to the movie, but according to wiki it was released on Magic Christian Music by Badfinger on 01/09/70 (the movie came out in 1969) but is not an official soundtrack album for the film.

FM, "FM (No Static at All)"
  • By Steely Dan; Included on the soundtract to the 1978 movie FM.

Heavy Metal, "True Companion"
  • Another Steely Dan single, written for the movie and to my knowledge has never been included on another Steely Dan album.
Also included on the same soundtrack:
    • "Working In a Coalmine" (Devo)
    • "Heavy Metal (Takin' a Ride)" (Don Felder)
    • "Heavy Metal" (Sammy Hagar)

Ghostbusters, "Ghostbusters"
  • By Ray Parker/Raydio; appears on Chartbusters, a 1984 singles collection.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High, "Somebody's Baby"
  • By Jackson Browne; appears only in soundtrack to the movie.

Not much action. Come on people.

Anyway, reading through the submissions so far a couple of songshave more than one nomination:

"Rainbow Connection"
"Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"
"Gonna Fly Now"
"Be Our Guest"
"Mean Green Mother from Outer Space"
"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"
"Chattanooga Choo Choo"
"Blazing Saddles"
"Live and Let Die"
"Georgy Girl"

"Jeepers Creepers"
"Unchained Melody"
"The Trolley Song"
"That's Amore"
"Ghostbusters"
"What's New Pussycat?"
"Friend Like Me"
"That's Amore"

So that's 18 and 39 are needed.

From what you guys have posted, I want to add the following titles, only because they seem to have survived the test of time.

"Pennies from Heaven"
"The Bare Necessities"
"9 to 5"
"Eye of the Tiger"
"You've Got a Friend in Me"
"I've Got You Under My Skin"
"Alfie"
"Funny Girl"
"The Power of Love"
"Hakuna Matata"
"Happy"

And from the original list, I propose:

"Cheek to Cheek"
"They Can't Take That Away from Me"
"(Love Is) The Tender Trap"
"True Love"
"Nobody Does It Better"
"Everything Is Awesome"
"Ready to Take a Chance Again"
"Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)"
"Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now"
"I Don't Want to Miss a Thing"

I'm open to suggestions.

I thought of a movie song that wasn't nominated that I thought was great. It was from Return of the King (2003) and I think the title is Edge of Night. It was sung by Billy Boyd whose character Pippin was performing it for Denethor as his son Faramir is leading a charge at the same time.

Here is a YouTube video, the song begins about 90 seconds in:

I see that I was supposed to use a format, so here it is:

Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King "The Edge of Night"

New York, New York "New York, New York"
Casablanca "As Time Goes By"

Do the songs have to have been written for the movie? "Born to Be Wild" wasn't written expressly for Easy Rider, but it featured in it one year later.

To qualify for the Oscar, it must be an original song written for the movie.
