Your Underwear Is Showing

Hey, Giraffe. Someone *cough*fenris?*cough* must've been playing with the admin control panel because the Moderation and Fenrisland forums are visible. I can't actually post in them (dammit!), but I can view them.

Girls talk shit when you're backed up against it
Don't believe any word that they hear
And you can do what it is that you want
Without some little bitch in your ear

And girls talk shit, making no bones about it
When you're something that they don't understand
And you can do what it is that you want
Without some little bitch in your ear

Garbage - Girls Talk

Weren't we just talking about incompetent Admins yesterday?

I have no idea what's going on with this glitch. Enjoy your reading for now. I'd be doing the same thing.

Well, it's not important whose fault it is. What's important is how you're going to punish Fenris for this.

But in this case it's like going through someone's medicine cabinet expecting to find something way more scintillating than what's actually there. This was like two Spiderman Band-Aids and a tube of Preparation H.

I may have fixed it (or, conversely, made things horribly worse). Let me know if your computers explode or turn into Destructicons bent on obliterating the human race or something.

I found a few things that I found very. . . enlightening. And some that made me a little sad. Then I ate a sandwich and got over it.

Welp, my moral high ground on the "not sucking at vBulletin" front has slipped a few (more) notches.

As you may or may not have guessed, I made a change to the usergroups that was supposed to be transparent, but which inadvertently gave posters access to the administrative forums. That should have been fixed by now, please let me know if you can still see all those threads of me telling Fenris to install more terrible smilies so I can pretend to hate them.

As for the change itself, I was going to post a thread today about it: there are a few posters who are a pretty consistent nuisance with the tags, basically using them to threadshit without actually posting in a thread. With the new usergroup set up, we can now turn off any individual poster's ability to edit tags. Please report threadshitty tags so we can disable the rights of serial offenders.

You mean those practically anonymous tags - the ones where it's really inconvenient to find out who left them?

It's not wildly inconvenient -- if someone reports a tag, I'll check and see if it's the same person who left the last five rude tags. But I can't do it from my phone or iPad, and it's enough work (hardly any, but some) that I rarely ever look unless someone asks or I notice someone going over the top with the trolling.

Mouseovering is hard.

Not that I GAF, but I recall a fuss being made over whether it was possible to look up who left a tag, and how it was possible but time consuming and not simple back when Wednesday was a mod.

I'm going entirely by (likely faulty) memory here, but for some reason I thought we were doing it in a more convoluted way before we discovered the mouseover option. I don't know. Either way, there's no guarantee of anonymity for taggers from the mods, but we're also not compiling lists of everyone's tags. We'll check the author if we have a reason to, otherwise we treat them like everyone else does.

I'd like to thank the great and always capable Fenris for so quickly taking care of that little underwear problem. And I also think this new ability to selectively take away the tag editing abilities of certain users is a fantastic idea. You should start with the scalawag who left all those terrible tags at the bottom of this thread.

And if you give me my ability to edit tags back I'll get rid of every one of them.

But it's still Fenris' fault, right?

As for the tags thing, I wish you'd done that ages ago.

This should be fixed. In trying to make sure my mess was fully cleaned up, I fucked things up again. But now, now, things are working perfectly. I'm sure of it!

I would need more than 25 characters (and possibly an advanced mathematics degree) to properly express just how close to zero you come.

But thanks anyways.

I tried to type it out, but I don't think my simple mind can truly grasp the infinitesimal nature of that number.

At this point, it's one click and a mouse over. It's an additional click to delete the tag. It's not a big deal at all. I almost never look at who made a tag unless it's really dickish or extremely clever and that's once every couple of months if that excluding when we get a report but that's pretty infrequent as well.

Okay. Ya gotta point. . . .

Just had a thought: can you imagine what would have happened at the Durp if someone had accidentially made the mod forum public? (Probably wouldn't have been reported, either.)

Seems to me that I recall that happening once or twice for an extremely short amount of time. If I remember right, there was no huge outlash of negativity which tells me that the only ones who saw it were the same people who think that the modmins over there can do no wrong.

After I posted that I saw a comment in the snark thread that said the Dope used the moderator forum mainly to keep track of bannings and such. All the discussions actually happened by e-mail (doubtless a throwback to the days when the boards consisted of an aged field mouse limping amok in an empty Cheerios box).
