Thirty years ago, this would have been a slam dunk for San Francisco. But in those 30 years, the City has gotten much worse. The blight that was around Union Square has spread to most of the city. Now there is an app that tells you which streets have less homeless people poo on them and fewer drug needles.

And yet, it's still curb-stomping Calgary, so what does that say about Canada, eh?

When I last went to SF it was over 30 years ago. So my knowledge is very dated now.

I voted SF even though I’ve never been to Calgary so it’s really not a fair vote.

if we couldn't for a city we had never actually visited I wouldn't be voting nearly as much

I started out only voting for places I've been, but what fun is it to only vote four times? So now I'm going with where I'd travel if someone else were paying for it, and I was flying first class. Shoot, if I'm going to fantasize I may as well be comfortable with free drinks.

This one is actually close for me.

I don't think I've ever been to San Francisco (if I did, it was when I was 8 on a big trip with my parents, so that would tell you how much of an effect it had on me), but there is still a certain cachet about SF, Golden Gate, etc. to where I would like to visit.

I haven't done much in Calgary proper, but I've been camping in the area a couple of times, and it was breathtaking. That being said, I' m getting to the age where a 4-star hotel has more appeal to me than sleeping on the ground.

So, do I base this vote on potential new memories or revisiting old ones?

ETA - since it ain't even close, and not even a Weedy-level speech isn't going to change enough votes, I voted for old memories.
