Meet Nick Zentner

charming 7.5 minutes bio of Nick Zentner, telling his story about how he came to love geology and why he moved to the PNW. beautiful scenery, worth looking just for that.

I started watching his live stream lectures from his back yard from the first and it's true, everybody is welcome. the chat has people in it that have post graduate degrees in geology and they have people like me who are just interested, and there is one wicked smart little boy who was six when this started that asks the most intelligent questions. now whenever Professor Nick swears I hear "sorry, Patrick" in my head.

Nick calls his fans "townies" because he has always allowed people who are not university students to come and listen to his lectures, but we call ourselves Zentnerds.

I love hanging out with people smarter than me and hope some of it rubs off!

I love Nick Zentner! He is a fount of fun knowledge, and has been producing publicly-accessible shows for a year, often live from field sites. This is what college lecturing should be -- why don't all professors do this?

I don't know how, but I missed these two replies. I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes Professor Nick.

@Musicat I suspect others ARE doing this and we just don't know about it. at least some.

one thing we can thank the pandemic for: so much more available online.

Maybe there should be a web site with links to all profs who are doing this? Wouldn't it be great if anyone could find a subject they were interested in, and watch what they like? It would be like a college education without the hassle, formality and paperwork.

As someone who loves to learn, but doesn't have a need for formal academic recognition, I could get behind that.

more Nick

this is not a new video, but anyone interested in the geology of the PNW wants to know more about the ice age floods, right? plus, really beautiful scenery.

Drummheller Channels National Natural Landmark

a brand new Nick On The Rocks 6:17

Quote:
DRUMHELLER CHANNELS NATIONAL NATURAL LANDMARK
Outside Othello, Washington, a labyrinth of canyons conjure images of the desert Southwest, but these channels weren’t carved by rivers. Join local geologist Nick Zentner as he examines the surreal landscape of Drumheller Channels for evidence of massive Ice Age floods.

I went on a field trip to Channels when I was in the 6th grade. We weren't allowed to climb on the rocks. It's also the closest I got to the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in my life (and hope never to be there again).
