Bite-size idea
Dear Raffers:
It has been prophecy-ed, by the means of my roomate's vocal-cords that there will be strangers in my house, on the night of the goat sacrif- i mean- New Year's eve. These strangers will expect some form of nourishment. There's going to be around 7 mouths to feed. I hope they remain clothed at all times. No! I shall demand they remain so! Now lets say they can only eat bite-sized morcels of food. Any ideas are welcome. If some know of dairy-free/ nut-free creations, will be the bee's knees. |

I always like bacon-wrapped water chestnuts for such occasions. Cut some bacon in half, parboil it, and wrap each piece around a water chestnut and skewer with a toothpick. Pop all those into a glass dish, then take a jar of garlic sauce, mix in a tablespoon or so of flour, shake and pour all over the mixture. Bake until the bacon has crisped up a little bit.

OK, then I vote for goat cheese and pepper/onion-stuffed mushrooms.
Basically: Pull the stems out of some white or brown (cremini) mushrooms. Chop 'em up finely and sautee in a pan along with some finely chopped red or yellow bell pepper and some onion, and some salt and pepper if you're feeling fancy. Put a little bit of mix back in each mushroom and top with a dollop of goat cheese. Bake at 350F for a few minutes or until cheese is melted. |

How about?
Chinese Chicken Wings 3 dozen chicken wings 3 cups water 1 cup soy sauce 1 tbsp. sugar 1/2 cup oil 1/2 cup oyster sauce 1/2 cup white wine 1. Mix all ingredients together except for chicken wings. 2. Preheat oven to 350F. 3. Place chicken wings in baking dish and pour over mixture. 4. Bake for 30 minutes. Not quite bite-sized though. |

Does he make his own pastry? I make it for my kids but I use the frozen pastry, not too bad labour-wise that way.

They're fairly easy to make with the ready made stuff but I wouldn't recommend it here if you never used the frozen phyllo pastry before. it can be tricky to work with since the sheets want to stick together as soon as they start to warm up.

Whenever I bring Deviled Eggs they get devoured.
Easy to make, reasonably healthy depending on how much mayo you use. Definitely finger food. |

This is really a shame, because I happen to have a couple of great recipes for naked guests.

My recipe for samosa. Sorry if everything is sorta approximate and all. I'm not a measuring kind of guy.
Samosa 2-3 fist sized potatoes 1 can (10 oz) peas fresh cilantro 1 tbs cumin 1 tbs coriander 2 tbs crushed red pepper spring roll wrappers yogurt mint (fresh or dried) Very first, mix the mint and yogurt to make the dipping sauce. This needs a little time for the mint to flavor the yogurt and get all happy. I always do this by eye but I'd say it's a fat spoon of mint into an amount of yogurt about the size of a container you would eat for breakfast. (A tablespoon of mint in a cup of yogurt?, with fresh mint you can use less because it's more flavorful) Peel and boil the potatoes until they are mostly cooked. Remove them from the water and cube the potatoes. You want them cooked somewhat but not so much that they fall apart when you cube them. They will get cooked further so a little underdone is better then a little overdone. In a bowl mix the potatoes and the remaining ingredients (minus the spring roll wrappers). Wrap the samosa as follows: take a spring roll wrapper and fold one corner to the middle of the opposite side then fold the adjacent corner over to form a cone. Put a spoon or two of the filling inside the cone then close up the mess by folding the top and bottom of the cone onto the side where the seam is. You can optionally make a glue out of flour and water to hold these together until you cook them. I 'deep fry' them by placing them foldy side down in a pan with about 1/8 inch of hot oil in it. 5-7 minutes to a side, flip once and cool on folded paper towels. Salt lightly when hot if you like. |

A few years ago, we had an impromptu get-together at a neighbor's house for NYE. The kids (ages = 2, 3, 5, and 5 at the time) decided to play beach and took off their clothes. i finally got to sound like a led an exciting life, telling people I went to a NYE party where some of the guests got naked.

Thank you all for your yum suggestions
![]() My roomate took over the food preperation (aaaalright!) and decided to make / buy premade: -Hummus and guacamole dips (with tostitos and regular potato-chip chips) -Multi-grain crackers topped with philly cheese and smoked salmon -Some veggies and buy some other dips (like you suggested severe delays) -Chicken wings -Mini-Quiches (assorted, premade) Dessert: I don't know the name of it, it's puff pastry filled with cream. I'll try to make (for the first time) a lemon-meringue pie. I would have liked the menu to be homemade dishes but it's ok. Ain't mah party ![]() Now the cleaning and decorating is left to me ![]() Last edited by Zucchini Paw; 30th December 2009 at 02:17 PM. |

I've always wanted to transform the Totino's Pizza rolls into some kind of Churro'y substance. If you can roll out like a 5 square ft. of sweet dough, then figure out how to make it into a pizza bite format w/ some brown sugar and other stuff... you'd be my hero.
