July MiniRaves
couldn't think of a better title for this thread!
![]() I did ONE day at my new job yesterday (and that's it til Monday) and it didn't go bad at all. this may be exactly what I was hoping: just physical, generally low stress* and something I can do. thank god. (although is one day enough to tell? I hope so) *although there is one woman there I was informed "has made all my female employees cry" so that's not good. ![]() I will let someone else start the minirants thread but mine would be living with no AC and it's going to be in the 90s today. and my bedroom smells like cat pee, albeit mildly and not at the moment since the window is open. ![]() |

I ended up with a 5 day weekend here. Work scheduled this as Thursday and Friday off and then I ended up taking Wednesday off to take the neizephews to the water park and so it will be five days off. I'm not on call this week, so a triumph all around.

started a new job on Monday after the last one ended on 6.28. The health coverage becomes effective on August 1st which is good for prescriptions.
New job is across the street from a supermarket and a pharmacy ![]() |

Yay for new jobs and breaks from old jobs!
Warren is deaf enough that the local explody things didn't bother him until late evening, when we hung out in bed, which helped. If the person who makes women cry is a coworker, just leave when she starts talking trash. If she is a supervisor, think "fuck you and the horse you rode in on" while she is talking. Remember, it's not you, it's her. |

Was offered the state job today which is $15,000 more a year than the job I started on Monday. I have to wait for the completion of the background check

For your sake I hope the background check doesn't find out about this place.

What dose did you use? I have 100 mg tablets and gave Loki (50 pounds) two in the evening last night. She's a bit hungover this am. Living in the country is great, but one of the downsides is neighbors with guns, fireworks, and dynamite!

On this date I finally pay off the worst credit card I ever had. Up yours, Discover.
Coors Light for everybody! (Hey, I'm still on a budget.) |

I thought Discover was one of the best. They always have cash back promotions every month like for this month to sept it's 5% cashback on all restaurants. Last month it was uber |

The extremely short version is that, thanks to a federal rule change several years back, I was "grandfathered" into a 30% penalty interest rate that they refused to lower until the past two years, when I finally was able to start paying down the account. (Current rate: about 25%. Current rate on card from local credit union: 12%.)

Wow.
OK, the good news is that I found a bag of delicious cherries. The bad news is decided to have a few straight from the bag, and ate almost all of them. Now I have a fruit tummy ache. |

Thing is, that new law or rule or whatever forces creditors to terminate the penalty rate if the customer has kept up with payments for six months. But the Constitutional prohibition of ex post facto laws made those of us already on a penalty rate fair game for eternal torment.

we need more raves, for sure. folks, can we please post more? we CAN, I know we can.
this morning I went for a lovely nature hike for a meetup and the leader was this adorable young woman with her first job after getting her masters degrees in some kinda science. she told us stuff we did not know about bugs, birds, plants, and animals, it was great. I was really exhausted - from doing my job all week, is why - but I enjoyed it anyway. now: y'all need to rave some, I mean it. my life is in shambles and I can rave you otter be able to. I mean, unless you are one of those with cancer and it's getting worse but the rest of you, I mean it. do some raving. please. |

I had a nice relaxing afternoon procrastinating chores and reading about the CERN energy amplifier. Will soon be scarfing tasty leftovers while watching youtube videos of industrious Germans building a Hoffman brick oven.

so far I have found two therapy jobs to apply for: one in The Dalles, Oregon (how do you pronounce that?) and one in Walla Walla, Washington.
there are FEW jobs out there for me, but there are SOME. ![]() same company has jobs in Portland and San Francisco but I'm assuming the cost of housing makes those not a good ideal....one in Turlock, California but I remember a thread I once wrote asking about living in California (I should look that back up again) and as I recall @running coach does not recommend it. ![]() Last edited by JackieLikesVariety; 15th July 2019 at 05:04 PM. |

Here's the thread. You were asking about the weather in California. Today we had a high of 99F 23% humidity. Pretty typical for the summer (Late May through early Oct.) highs seldom fall below 92 going to over 100F 10-15 days. There's usually a few days of 103-106. Culturally, there's little here. |

I do like it, and lord knows I am sick of relocating, BUT I can't find a job that isn't low pay (and stressful) and I can't find a place to live I can afford and it's not working out with the roommate I moved in with.
I might be making yet another huge mistake but my current plan is to the best paying job I can find and that is about 95% likely to involve relocation. ![]() FWIW I always did regret leaving Oregon. I didn't see MOST of it, for example. |

Have you considered the East Coast, and by that, I mean NC, SC, and GA? Lotsa of old people there, lots of retirement folks (I hope to be one in the next 10 years), we have a family home (OK, correction, my MOM has a beach home, we "own" it in trust, so it's hers until she passes) on the Outer Banks of NC, it's awesome, lotsa retirees with money, yes, there is the chance of the random hurricane, but my parents bought the home in 1996 and it's still standing...people are nice, weather is nice...it's a vacation area, none of the politics associated with the states influence the area, nobody cares...and Carolina BBQ is some tasty stuff...
Sorry, this post was for @JackieLikesVariety |

Dat freckabelly is SOFA KING KYOOT I AM DED!
As to pronunciation, "Dalles" rhymes with "pals" and the town is named for a specific type of geographical feature that's now underwater due to the construction of the North Bonneville dam downstream a bit. The town is right on the Columbia River and it's really a nice little town. Gorge weather can be a bit extreme, because the river just funnels weather right down it so there's a lot of wind most seasons, the winters can get a bit icy and rainy but the gorge itself is so fucking scenic most people are okay with it. The area is right next to the Warm Springs reservation and if you want to hike and enjoy various types of water sports like kiteboarding and the like, this is a world class area for it. Pros are that the minimum wage outside of Portland metro is $11.25 and according to the Wasco county living wage calculator (it's out of date re the min wage but probably still accurate) a healthcare support person should earn enough to be able to afford to live, albeit not necessarily lavishly. Also, legal weed and fairly easy access to the ocean, big plus really. |

Smartie, I had a big wave of fear this morning - because I had JUST started putting down the very slenderest of roots here in CO and now I won't have a city-sized library and two UU churches and Buddhists if I want to connect and just in general CITY things - and you made me feel better.
I have a history of thinking, everything will be OK if I just.... (get a job, move, whatever) and then I am gob-smacked when, no everything is NOT OK, I still have problems, I have dug myself a giant hole (both financial and emotional) and if I get out it will take a long time. there is no "answer" there is just make a choice, best you can, and move on. ETA: I would be too terrified to do any "water sports" that I can think of, but the whole scenic thing is a turn on. I wish it was a little closer to civilization and there was a UU church in town, but there is supposedly one in Hood River, 30 minutes away. (no idea if it's active) now, what do we know about Walla Walla? both places will have more rump supporters than I'd like, of course. ![]() Last edited by JackieLikesVariety; 16th July 2019 at 04:58 AM. thanks for thinking of me, Oxirane no, I have no desire to move to that area. my least favorite weather is heat + humidity plus it's really far away and I don't know a soul anywhere nearby. course OR is now a long two-day drive from me but at least if it's hot and humid it's not often. more likely windy and icy, like Smartie says. ![]() |
