I hear that--I purchased this state of decrepitude FAIR AND SQUARE! I do have to admit it feels damned good to have all this stuff done and be able to check some things off my Massive List Of Shit That Needs Done Around Here. I did fuck myself with regards to my French press coffee grounds, though, as I'm used to standing on the back porch and hucking them into the Vast Wasteland that no longer exists. Tried it this morning and ended up taking a watering can out to hose off the hostas, apologizing all the while. What's a girl to do?

So that run I went for on Tuesday? My legs are STILL sore, WTF. At least today they feel like normal post-workout sore instead of "omg I can barely walk" sore.

Try some stretching and yoga--if you just collapse and don't keep working the muscles the lactic acid just sits there and it won't stop hurting.

Rigs, I pretty much told hubby I'd had enough of nature being all up in my bidness for quite awhile. It can stay outdoors.

We went down to the Keys yesterday just to enjoy a drive in the new car. Hubby got the gas mileage to over 40 mpg at one point, which made him quite happy. We went to a new-to-us restaurant where we discovered tuna nachos. They were done sushit style, and were one of the best things I've eaten in ages! We will head back down there for more before long.

This morning during church, the power went out in several lovely fluctuations, came back on, and went out again. Hubby works the soud booth, and I could hear him and his other guys scrambling to make sure nothing was fried and to turn things back on. It was really quite amusing, although I'm not sure it should have been! Fortunately our youth pastor was preaching this morning, so years of yelling over teenagers have enabled him to be really loud! Our pianist commented that as dark as it was, if the lights had gone out during the music, we would have been humming without accompaniment.

For some unknown reason, I want cake. I want the store mix with frosting from a can. Nobody has gotten me any thus far, though, which makes me sad. I've started mentioning it to hubby every time he walks in the room, but this far no cake had appeared. Boo hiss.

I've had some sour/mealy apples sitting around in a basket for a while threatening to go yuck on my so I'm making some apple bars. Press in crust, chopped apples in the middle, oatmeal streusel topping baking away and smelling yummy. Couple t-storms have blown through, some massive rain plops here and there and it's cool so a perfect day for it. My neighbor is coming home after an ankle replacement surgery today and the apples are from her son's tree--he's staying with her a few weeks while she recovers--so I'll take a bunch of the bars over for them later on as repayment for the raw ingredient.

And I agree, given my druthers I'd be done and over with carpets as well. I want polished concrete floors that I can put area rugs down on--seagrass and cotton for summer and wool for winter. Nice, WASHABLE rugs with no room for flea eggs and dirt and blech. Carpet is nasty--it outgasses horribly when it's new then traps 1.5 times its own weight in dirt over its lifetime. No thanks, if I have an alternative I'll take it.

So we're here on San Beluga island for a few days of R&R. Seems nice so far. Went out to find lunch and ended up at a Mexican place with a luche libre theme and had some of the best soft tacks I've ever had. Soft tacos. This kindle is kind of a pain with auto correct. Any ways they were awesome and I'm from socal and know my tacos.

It's raining again! And this time it seems to have settled in (which means it's been raining for longer than 10 minutes). Talked to my parents for a bit. Dad's been not feeling well, which is worrisome, but does feel better. Plus, he's to see the doctor tomorrow.

Yorkshire pudding is in the oven and smells divine. Dang, I'm hungry. Will your house still be there when you get back, Wolf?

Answer cloudy, ask again later.

We went for a drive around the island. We saw a pissing camel and a motherfucking owl. No, really. The owl was sitting on a signpost right next to the road and we took pictures and everything.

Didn't get as much done today as planned but did make some progress. First I trotted around and dragged in everything that was staged up in the yard that needs to stay sorta dry. I just stuffed it into the shed in two layers, will sort it out later. Then a couple loads of laundry while I cleaned out the gutters and downspouts. First time since spring but certainly not the last. The rain settled in steady just as I finished up. I may be illin, but damn that cool mist feels mighty fine after the last couple weeks of nasty sticky heat. Finally more flea hunting with the shop vac.

While I was flailing about, Ma & Pa Kettle stopped by wanting to know if we had any cars for sale. I don't know what it is with folks around here, that's like the third or fourth time that's happened. If we wanted to sell a car, doncha think we would hang a For Sale sign on the stinkin thing? Oh well. I sent them on their way as nicely as possible.

Since I'm out of groceries and the Hawks game is on, dinner was a sleazy burrito from the taco wagon. Habenero sauce is hurting me just right. I may have to quench the fire with a beer or three. Hah! In spite of the fact that the PNW is the least lightning prone corner of the country, we now have a lightning delay of the Hawks game. Go figure.

Today is my husband's 50th birthday. We are having agreat time here at the beach house. We were all a little snockered last night. Between our drinks, shots of blackberry moonshine, and shots of Cabo Wabo we weren't feling any pain.

I am the only one up right now and am enjoyingmy coffee and the sound of the surf.

The hotel here is very comfortable and the spa style bathrobes are to die for, but this place has too many pillows syndrome. There were six huge ones on the bed and almost no room for us.

In slightly ominous news, Mrs. Larsen booked my sea kyacking excursion and keeps bringing up the size of the insurance layout if I drown. Should I be worried?

EPIRB?

I'd only worry if she's takes a sharp rock with (to either knock you out or smash the hull).

Am home from a busy day in the Library. Actually, it was dead slow, but I was extremely busy, revamping my power point presentation for Wednesday's class. I'm almost pleased with it, so that's all good. Next week's registration event is 90% planned and done, leaving only my ACLS training which is up to Human Resources to allow me access. And then I may collapse.

Gorgeous day today--I love fall. Low tonight 47.

Shit. My dad just called. My mother collapsed in the grocery store (fainted). She's at home now. My dad panicked (he never panics) and asked me to fly out tonight.

I am having him make her eat something, and himself as well, and call me back in an hour. The earliest I can fly out is Thursday.

Sorry to hear about your mom, Riggs.

Am back from kyacking. Had an awesome time. Saw two zeels, one a baby and a fiercsor, fortunately at a distance. Had lunch at the lighthouse. It was great and if I ever live by the sea again, a 'yak is a must have.

Riggs, Mrs. Larsen didn't come on the expedition, she was off talking to some potential clients.

Well as our newest Troll says, that does sound awful. How old are your parents ER?

& we have just had police all over our tiny street as someone (read one of the people doing the break ins) was seen loitering. I'm glad they are now motivated to try to catch the little shits. I thought the latest break in was a different group but maybe they are all connected. With the turnout (it really looked like a scene from CSI Miami, Kiwi style ) hopefully our budding crims will move to another street.

Illogical I know, but I have to take our cat to the vet this avo & now I really don't want to go out. I'm more worried about surprising someone in the house than actually being robbed though.

Oh, rigs, I hope she's okay. It's so hard when your parents panic.

I told hubby tonight that I couldn't figure out why I felt so off and unsettled, almost a foreboding feeling. Then I realized that, duh, the last month has been total chaos--if I didn't feel a little off, especially as naturally crazy as I am, something would be really wrong.

In unrelated news, hubby has found a completely cheesy radio station, so I'm getting to listen to Barry Manilow, Lionel Ritchie, and Bread. I'd say this wasn't his normal listening style, but he has no normal listening style. He may be playing death metal in a few minutes, followed by show tunes, followed by ABBA. I'm a bit concerned about how happy he is about the Barry Manilow, though.

Ok, she didn't faint. It's worse: she started dragging her left leg and then both legs buckled under her. Three times now. Paramedics checked her out: BP and blood sugar normal, no obvious signs of stroke (conventional signs, that is). She refused to go to the hospital.

My dad is freaking out, mostly because he is so worn out with this bug that he can't shake. Unfortunately, he has canceled his scope for tomorrow and says it can wait until he's stronger. Thing is, he NEEDS that scope to find out what's up with his GI tract.

I am on a Thursday morning flight. I am calling in tomorrow, to get all the things done so I can go. I cannot cancel my class on Wednesday and I have no substitute (the RN who will act as my sub is taking the class!). I am to check in with my folks tomorrow morning. My dad now has a plan and feels reassured.

And now I get to call Sis. Some of you may remember her from my blog about the Bahamas.... I wish I drank.

...and rightly so, in my opinion. This might require an intervention with some Stevie Ray Vaughn. I hope it isn't extreme enough for the pipes and drums of The Black Watch.

Oh dear, that does sound rather dreadful--you have all my sympathy, Rigs. Here's hoping your mom's situation is nothing too scary, your dad gets his medical stuff taken care of and your sister has had a lip zipper installed.

After falling 3 MORE times, my mother has agreed to see a doctor tomorrow. My father has agreed to stop eating jello and eat solid foods, but he still hasn't agreed to rescheduling the scope for while I'm there. Mom is on the downstairs couch (bathroom very nearby) for the night. I hope they are both getting some badly needed rest.

I many be flying out sooner than Thursday if this keeps up.

Talked with Sis. She was actually decent on the phone. She is now planning on going out there on Monday or maybe even Sunday. Brother is on standby for later in the week (next week). She's in LA; he's in Texas. This could get complex quickly (we've always known that, but here we are).

I need a cookie, some hot tea and a hot bath.

Holy crap! I hope your folks are OK Riggs.
:: hands over plate of cookies ::

I hauled more stuff around. Third time I've moved this particular pile due to space limitations. Tomorrow really will be the last round, honest. I may not be getting skinnier but at least I'm getting my exercise.

At the very back of the garage I found our old paint slinger. So theoretically I'm ready for the house painting. I hope it won't be as gruesome as the last one I did years ago.

Breakfast this morning was interrupted by the sound of a tank driving by. Wait, what? I looked out to see some geezer walking backward down the street in front of a radio controlled bulldozer with half a house on it. I thought it was illegal to drive those things on the street? A couple teenage kids were steering the 20 wheel trucks at the other end and that was the crew. Naturally, we dropped what we were doing and scampered down the street after them.

Unfortunately the job was removing the hulk of an old lady's house that burned last winter (she got out OK). We caught up with the old boy at the next block while he was waiting for the lowboy. Turns out he's been doing this his whole life. The dozer is a specially modified unit with a 70 ton jack where the seat used to be and a sweet rack of hydraulics. Apparently there's enough houses need moving in this corner of the state to pay the bills. I did not know that.

Now we desperately need a radio controlled bulldozer.

I hope you get all three before you fly out. That sounds scary and frankly I don't blame your Dad for cancelling his stuff. Sounds like he thinks Mom's condition needs to take precedence.

I hope everything goes well for all three of you.

I have done nothing this weekend but try to rescue what's left of my brain from this damned cold. I haven't felt that bad physically (a little cough, a little nose stoppage) but I have felt like such a space cadet that I could, inadvertently, be a danger to myself and others.

It's a little better today, hopefully even better tomorrow and I wish for everyone's trials and tribulations to be so. Though I will admit that Carolia's husband and the Barry Manilow thing is most concerning.

Rigs, I just hurt for you and your parents. It's hard enough to take care of one of them remotely, but both is painfully difficult. Especially when they are being stubborn. When mine were both ill, I told Mom that I knew she was stubborn, but I inherited my stubborn from her and Daddy, but that I had the advantage of being younger and having more stamina, so I'd win. Eventually, I did, and you will too. I'll keep them and you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hubby did move on from Barry Manilow, thank heavens, but we'll see where he ends up musically today. Thank you all for your concern!

Clearly there are levels of hell. I'm in one with failing parents far away, but you were subjected to Barry Manilow (or as I liked to call him: Barely Manenough) for hours on end yesterday. That's just fucked up.

Mom fell again last night, but has agreed to go to hospital this morning. Dad is feeling better and stronger due to eating solid foods and getting some sleep. He now sees the sense in rescheduling the scope for next week (I still want it on Friday so I can be there to monitor him, but so be it). Much rests on Mom's neuro workup today. It sounds central nervous system to me--either brain or spine. This is not good. A diagnosis of TIA would thrill me.

Talked to Librarywork and The Best Boss in the World is fine with me flying out on Thursday. RNwork was also good about me skipping out on today. Off to get windshield repaired and all my errands run so I can leave on Th.

Thanks for all the good wishes. They mean a great deal.

I prefer the soubriquet "Barry Nannernose." And has anyone ever seen him and Morgan Fairchild together? I rest my case.

Best of luck with the 'rents, Rigs, sounds like they're being fairly sensible, thank the gods. TIA would be the most innocuous diagnosis, let's hope for that or maybe an inner ear problem--might as well shoot for the moon, right?

Slept like two rocks smacked together--had a bunch of guys drop over last night, result of neighbor's son being in town for a month to babysit her after surgery. His buddies come by, they annoy mom, they head over to my place to shoot the shit. They crack me up, nothing more amusing than a bunch of PTSD vets ranking each other and telling VA stories.

I could easily go back to bed and snooze for another couple four hours. Yawn.

We seem to be at the age for parental health issues. My sympathies to all.

I'm sitting in the room here on San Beluga island, listening to Mrs Larsen snoring and the cheerful chuckle of the coffee maker. And I found out the story of the camel from the guide yesterday. It was bought by a guy in a maniac phase for his girlfriend. They broke up and the camel was given to a local farmer. For years the camel was a great local favorite and people would stop to pet it and feed it candy bars. But then the camel became diabetic and is on a special diet and is a sad and angry camel today. Moral of the story? Bi -polar people shouldn't have credit cards.

What is ERIMB or whatever you said upthread?

Dad is doing better and has rescheduled his scope for next Wed--my sister will be there for that. Mom goes into tomorrow for a full neuro workup by the Head of the Neuro Dept of the hospital. She hasn't fallen again, but feels "off" when she's walking. It's looking more and more like TIA.

There's a great deal to do, not just in DC, but the other houses (there are 3). I foresee my vacation time being used in taking flights out to various locations to either clean out or pack up or discard a lifetime of antique and book collecting.
And finding an archivist for my father's pathology slides and professional writings.

I'm tired already. But soon it will be a known known and I do have help.

I do want a remote control bulldozer (or just a little Bobcat, if I can have a huge pile of mulch to go with it).

Emergency position-indicating radio beacon. It goes off when it is submerged or if you push the red button. But you better mean it or the Coast Guard will get awful crabby.

We are indeed. Because I had kids relatively late, I went from responsible for kids to responsible for parents. My Mum is at the moment quite happy though.

I'm intending to be in a retirement village by the time I'm 75. I'm not doing this to my own kids. I have told both of them they can't just forget about me when I'm there though as those places are in business to make money after all

Your holiday is sounding blissful, Wolf. But that poor camel.

Our local cheesemaker is on a farmlet & it has become a haven for other peoples animal mistakes - like donkeys & llamas.

I just caught up on the last three or four pages. Boy, you are a chatty bunch!

Yays, boos and pats on the back, share as needed.

And a special hug or two for Rigs. Dad had three TIA's a few years ago that scared the crap out of me! No residual effects, thank goodness.

Worse. More like a mini-stroke. (I consider a brain fart when you can't recall a name or directions back to your cousin's place or that you agreed to meet under the clock, not in the coffee shop).
This has a physical side, but it can also be mental (either or or both).

Dinner is done. Am gathering things up to pack. One GOOD thing has come out of this: I'm so distracted by all of this, I have no energy or time to mind-fuck my teaching a class tomorrow. It either will go well or not. Don't much care. No butterflies here.

Thanks, Rebo: I remember when your Dad went through that. Glad to hear he's doing well.

I hope it all goes well for you and your parents, rigs. Safe travels.

For those of you expressing concern, we have moved on from the cheesy radio station to Phil Collins. I feel ever so much better.
