Harping on a subject is quite different that disingenuous arguing. Not all Bankster threads are Jag's. And the thread titles are usually clearly labeled and easily avoided.

And thus, boys and girls, we see that Bryan will never, ever change; nor even ever be caught being a wee bit introspective.

A couple of off-the-cuff comments. I haven't read the thread in question, so these answers are more general. I'll try to check the OP's thread tonight.

1) Ken was permaboxed, he's not banned (unless it was done without me knowing it!)

2) Insults have always been permitted in PPR. Personally as a poster I voted the other way, but when we started, there was a majority of posters who said (more or less) "Insults are fine". This was later amended to say "...but if the thread gets off track and the people in the slap-fest keep hijacking, THAT'S being a jerk."

2a) Calling someone a "troll" has never been a problem here. It falls under the "Insults are ok, but don't keep a slapfest going if you've been asked to knock it off" rule in PPR.

3) I also cringe when Brian gets involved...that said, anyone who uses the term "bankster" has given up all pretense of intelligent discourse, IMO. It's one of the dumber attempts to create a meme I've seen.

3a) While I can't stand Brian's...um...let's call it a "debate style" (while conceding it's really neither debating or stylish ), he (IMO) hasn't stepped over the line yet. Allowing someone spout Fox News stuff is the consequence of an open debating forum. Ken was permaboxed for A) never shutting up even after being told to and B) phrasing his opinions in the most obnoxious possible way and then denying he'd ever said what he typed. Brian isn't doing anything of the sort.

Well, this sounds clear-eyed and calm...

Jag does hurl insults at Louns upon occasion, but no worse than what Louns dishes out to every and any-body who dares to question his superiority. I find Louns interesting and amusing, but he can be a right dick at times (IMO). So can we all. I almost never read Brian not being a dick-he carps at picayune stuff, quotes ridiculous sources and touts the Dittohead line in spirit, if not in fact. But I don't think he should be permaboxed or banned. He's not threatening anyone or displaying decompensating behavior, so he's here for as long as he doesn't spiral down into message board flameout or similar.

Ridiculous sources like Reuters? You are exactly the same as Guin. You wait to find out what everyone else thinks, and then chime in with "Me too!"

This is a remarkably retarded thing to say, even by your standards. Eleanor is many, many things, but someone who "waits to find out what everyone else thinks and then chimes in "Me too!"" isn't even remotely accurate. Or reality based. Eleanor has never shy about sharing her opinions.*

You haven't read very many of her posts. She has admitted a lack of interest in topics financial, but other than that she is of firm opinions and not the least bit reticent about voicing them. She and I agree on remarkably little, but that has never stopped her from letting her opinion be known on subjects she cares about.

Quite right.

The Whinger Caucus.

Brian is an idiot and a cretin that makes me cringe. What should be suppressed is the Whinger Caucus calling for banning and boxing. Wir müssen die Meckerer ausrotten unverzüglich!

Otherwise, Fenris has things right.

Although Brian in this thread continues to illustrate why all political and social flavours can unite in despising his sheer unremitting native dimness.

Politics, gender issues, and so forth. You really are a lithium-deprived retard aren't you?

I disagree with Eleanor about 90% of the time, politically. But she's usually articulate, rational and....sane*.

You, on the other hand, are a cringe-inducing, barely literate drugged out chimpanzee who's keyboard mashings are an embarassment to every other conservative and Republican on the board.

Seriously, you moronic douche: if you're going to insult her, it's only meaningful if you, y'know, insult her based on a real characteristic, not one that only exists in your head. I mean, srsly? You think calling her shy and reticent about sharing her opinions is a reality based insult?

*Wrong, but sane.

The fact that it's a lot older than I thought doesn't make it any less lame and doesn't change the fact that it derails any hope of discussion. It's like "fascist", but dumber-sounding.

Also, until I read that article (and thanks for the link), I always thought the "-ster" stood for "trickster" not "gangster". And a quick poll of about 10 online friends were 10 for 10 on "trickster". So the meme is so outdated it's not even working

Thank you, Fenris. I would say your take on things is more accurate, despite your crazy perspective of the world. (but I confess to a curiosity as exactly what many things I am).

SEWING AND COOKING? <falls over laughing> I can sew a straight seam, and cook a plain meal. If you want sewing, turn to Solfy or DragonLady, among others. If you want cooking, look to SmartAleq and Fenris and Wolf. I DO wield a mean vacuum, though and have mopped with the best of them (ah, glory days...).

This is single-handedly the most bizarre thing ever said about me on any message board, ever. I've been called a frigid bitch, a just plain mean old bitch, a cuntish dyke (whatever that is), "not very nice", ugly, fat, fugly, stupid and others I've forgotten, but never a June Cleaver parody. I'm almost flattered. Could you make it Laura Petrie, though? She rocks those capris.

But's that Brian-say something and then try to make it stick, despite actual facts disproving his POV, and never make a persuasive argument on his own. You only either link to things, Brian, or make edicts which you are then astonished that not everybody falls in line with. That's a horrible sentence but it's early and I haven't had my tea yet. The current Government shutdown thread is a great example.

I really don't have any beef with you; I find your style of argument annoying and your ignorance profound. I don't pretend to know all the answers or even have any answers. But I think you'd get less blow-back if you explored issues rather than proclaimed your talking points as Truth.

If you openly admit that you don't have any answers, why do you post in political/debate threads? Please tell me that you're not like that other poster who claimed that the purpose of communication "was to feel good"? Blech.

What? Are you claiming you DO have answers? Such as just shutting down random bits of the Government with no forethought or strategy to provide services etc? There's not a single person here who has all the answers or even some of the answers for what ails our society and country today, and if they claim as much, they are liars or joking (or both).

I have no idea to whom you are referring, but one purpose of communication is to build amity. It's not the sole purpose, and many times is a bonus, but I'm for it in principle. Whyever not?

Yet another admission of openly trolling another poster. Please consider that, Giraffe.

Add BJMoose to the list, along with mswas, chacoguy, and jag.

You're not a spring chicken. In fact, I think we're approximately the same age. The government has been shut down 18 times since 1976. Why is this one so awful?

Yet another admission of openly trolling another poster. Please consider that, Giraffe.

Add BJMoose to the list, along with mswas, chacoguy, and jag.

1) It's not an admission of trolling.
2) Even IF (and note the "IF" part) it was, if it's not disrupting threads, WE DON'T CARE.

There seems to be a huge misunderstanding* about what "Don't be an asshole" means. At least from my point of view, in about 85% of cases it means "Don't disrupt threads". BJMoose, mswas, chacoguy and Jag...as well as you (generally) don't. (The other 15% is stuff that's obviously over the top. Saying you're poking someone with sticks isn't that**.)

You can whine all you want about someone "admitting" they're trolling (although it would be far less sad if your whines were reality-based), but it's not going to get you anywhere.

*Mostly by you.

**There was some douche who told Kendio that he was glad Kendio's mom died or something. THAT is "over the top". Someone saying that they think you're another poster isn't even in the same state, let alone the same ballpark.

I've changed my mind. He's either literally too stupid to write things in public and should be institutionalized or he's a serial liar. Box him for a month and see if that lets us determine which.

And here I thought I was finally wearing you down....
We spring chickens must stick together. <attempts to cram a cock/rooster joke in this space with no success>

Don't move the goalposts, Brian. We aren't done discussing whether or not you have "all" or any of the answers. This is another little quirk of yours that earns you friends and influence.

Put the individual on your ignore list. It blocks both PMs and posts.
