We had a caregiver in for the old man while i was getting perforated today. The morning I spent getting the house in good shape for the caregiver. The session went really well, it hurt nowhere near as much as I was anticipating. I did have one phantom sensation of a salamander running up the side of my head, though. That was weird. I picked up the traditional tasty tattoo Thai food on the way home. Now I'm just waiting for the old man to come out of his room so we can feast.

I'll be damned. Two of the wheels fell off my old rowing machine just now. At first I thought it just needed a dab of oil, but it turns out they are worn to shreds. I got it new about 10 years ago. I don't recall that I ever actually wore out any equipment before, except a couple bicycles. Kind of a milestone in my little world.

Wore out a piece of exercise equipment? That is impressive.

Does a Hitachi Magic Wand count as exercise equipment?

My beans and bacon turned out smashingly awesome and I ate far too much and will probably regret it bitterly around 0300 but that's why I keep Tums by the head of the bed. Burp.

Oh, absolutely. Dynamic tension and all that. Sex of course is a branch of gymnastics.

Ahh, yes the old camp food standby. I serve it a lot, high fat foods are actually called for around here. Sometimes we go all out, and have kosher hot dog and bacon in the beans.

Speaking of, I have about a quart of bacon grease saved up in the refrigerator. What should I do with it? Fried chicken? Fish fry?

Chicken fried steak is best done up in bacon grease and then it makes the best cream gravy imaginable.

Oh, FFS… I could see at least a mile down the track, either direction. I was "on the tracks" less than 2 minutes.

Up and cold. I turned off the heat a ways back due to 80 degree weather, and I refuse to turn it back on again. Chicago promptly moved to Canada and here I sit with 2 sweaters on, freezing. Time to go to The Morgue. I'd shorten that, but it autocorrects to the trademark sign, so I can't.

We should bribe Fenris to get the :rigs smiley back and put in some custom emojis of The Morgue and the like.

Cool and breezy today.

I decided to give myself a four day weekend. We're in the middle of having new furniture installed at work and we're on a liberal leave policy anyway. I came in on Tuesday and yesterday and took care of business. I have my work laptop for any last minute crap, but working out of a conference room that is piled high with screen monitors, chairs and various assorted crap is not conducive to getting stuff done. Additionally, my access to my data mining system is jacked because our unhelpful desk jacked it up. The guy that was supposed to reinstall the required package for my access jacked it up so much yesterday, that I now have to get a new profile installed. If he would have listened to me in the first place, none of this would have happened.

So, since I'm home, I'm going to get some sorely needed chores done.

I'm glad nothing happened to you while on the tracks, rigs.

There isn't much else going on in my little corner of the world. We're going out to dinner with some friends on Saturday and on Sunday we're meeting my daughter, son-in-law, his mother, and my mother at a restaurant for a belated Mother's Day celebration.

I like this very much.

Could not concentrate on work today--I worked anyway, but it was an uphill battle. Donated blood as well-happy hospital week, where you are asked to give blood in honor of your hard work.

Lookee--it's going to rain AGAIN. Yay?

I think they won't bring back the rigs smiley because I've asked for it. I'm not universally liked here (I cry in my pillow every night about that), so whatever.

I'd like to have it back, just to steal it and have it for my own devious uses. Heh.

The deal is, you are allowed to yodel for 10 seconds after you hit the water and then you have to go back to being macho.

Later on in the summer the water actually gets pretty comfy in the shallow coves in the afternoon. But even then only the top two feet get warm. Stick a toe below that and it's always cold. Great for cooling off a sixpack. And for growing lots of fat sassy bait-stealing fish.

The grass is loving all this water, so I'm going to have to mow this weekend. Which is going to be a bit tough, it's very busy. And we're in the utterly no-guilt long shower period. The reservoir is full and running down the spill way, so it doesn't matter how long I'm in the shower.

Your grass has an active social life? Yes, it would be tough to mow a lawn that's on the go all the time. My buffalo grass just lies there being lighter or darker shades of brown.

It's likely to rain here this evening, or even earlier. Should make Saturday's yard work interesting. Today I expect a whole lot of nothing until It's time to go to class. I gave up my slot to do a class on Wizards in Popular Culture to a faculty member who really wanted to do a class on curses. Only fair, I did the Beltane class on the 1st this month.

I had a lunch date at the park with Swimmy and Husband today. It did marvels for my mood to go stretch my legs in the sunshine for half an hour.
I still love this job, and the location in particular.

Not Hogwarts, The Aeonic University of Mysticism and Magick, AUMM. I'm on the faculty as Professor Ameritrash.

Wand handling? I did do a class once that I called 'Defense against the Dark Arts'. How to ward a house, how to step aside from negative energy, stuff like that.

Oh, and it did rain, the old man slept all day, so I caught up on some reading.

But he doesn't snore, and the rain couldn't be called 'pouring'.

Yeah, trying to decide if it's gonna piss a bit or not. Bleah. New collars for the cats arrived--Terri was sporting a leather collar that was way too small for her, and The Captain's fancy collar was losing its rhinestones and had poky places on it. Now they each have a nice, simple, 12" flat leather collar that fits just great and should be nice and comfy for them. Also nailed everyone with flea dope so I'm universally hated right now. Collars AND flea dope? I'm a monster!

Oddly enough, Bear is the one who hates flea meds worse than anyone. Pratchett used to be the one--I'd have to get the ampule prepped to go then basically sit on him holding his collar to get it on him and as soon as he felt the cold on his neck he'd explode into pissed off clawing fuck you action. Bear also reaches around to snap at the spots on his back where it goes on and it can be a little intimidating--he's not trying to bite or anything, but those giant jaws clopping right near my hand is a trifle daunting. Terri and Widget are completely calm about it, The Captain doesn't like it but endures well enough. Sure wish there was an easier way to keep them from getting bug ridden but here we are.

I read somewhere they now have a pill for flea treatments. Polar hates getting that stuff squirted on him too, and it's a battle trying to separate his thick fur, hold him still AND get the stuff on his skin.

I've got the charcoal going; were going to grill up some angus beef patties that are already mixed with cheese and bacon. I'll nuke a side dish to go with them.

I knocked out a little grocery shopping today. I'm trying hard to not buy a lot, because I don't want to spend a lot of time emptying out the fridge in preparation for the arrival of our new fridge. I always have way too much food in there. Fortunately, there are no science experiments growing in there and I want to keep it that way.

Beautiful little camping spot, Jag. I wouldn't mind knowing where that is. That is my kind of spot, right there.

I have to go to the grocery tomorrow. I hate grocery shopping, truly. A GF is coming over at some point tomorrow. I haven't seen her in 2 years--we text and phone a lot. Want to do some gardening, but it's forecast to rain all weekend (are we having fun or spring yet?). I may do some Art. Or I may veg on the couch. I really don't have any plans--and honestly? That feels great.

Definitely check with your vet, because after they came out with Comfortis, there was Trifexis -- both of which my dogs hated. I gave up after my 90-lb dog would lock her mouth shut, then breathe through her teeth if you held her nose. The people who make Heartgard (heartworm meds) have come out with Nexgard and I can get the new pup to take that one fairly easily. All of them were about $20-24 a month per dog. Now they're coming out with a pill that only has to be taken every three months, but I don't know the name and haven't heard any reviews yet.

Ask me if I battle fleas much!

So I took some of the painting supplies out to the garage and noticed that the evening weather was actually pleasant. This was the first time I've noticed that since maybe the end of October. Evenings for a huge chunk of the year are either cold, windy, snowy, rainy or some combination thereof.

It would certainly make it easier if these drugs just came in small pills that could be tucked into a pill pocket--since Widget gets daily meds and Bear gets a little bit of the pocket sans pill every day for fairness' sake it would be no problem administering a pill. When they put it into "tasty chews" you're rather stuck if your animal disagrees as to the tastiness thereof.

Put the chew in the pill pocket?

Pissing down rain here. So glad I did the Heavy Mom thing and made #2 son mow the lawn yesterday. Awoke at 0530. Joy.

So, I will take him to work, then grocery shop, then either meet my GF or not, but either way, at some point today I have to go cocktail dress shopping. If I loved to shop, this would be fun. As I don't, it isn't. I did find some styles I like online. I have to try things on, so it's a challenge with this new shopping dynamic of let's not stock the stores and yet have no standardization of women's sizes.

HURRAY for Saturday and the sun is out, although it's cool. way cool, man.

I'm going to check out garage sales and go to the library and walk the dogs and do laundry and, in general, it's going to be a fantastic day.

hope y'all are the same!

It's looking rather dark and dreary out here. It's supposed to rain today, which would explain the dark clouds.

My husbands wants to see a movie this afternoon and then we're supposed to meet friends for dinner. He wants to see that new Mad Maxx movie. I'm pretty "meh" about it, but what the hell.

The three month flea pill is called Bravecto. It became available in the US last year. The reviews I've read seem to be mixed.

rigs, I'm not a fan of clothes shopping either.

That is not approved attire for work, Jag. I must wear business attire. And frankly, even shopping for jeans is a pain. Every brand fits differently.

I lucked out--Faded Glory, Levi's Signature and Lee Riders all fit perfectly with no tryon needed. Gloria Vanderpants are a crapshoot, half of them fit just fine, the other half is ridiculously off. Luckily, I only get GV at Costco so super easy to return.

I looked at the dosage schedule for dogs 60-120 lbs on that Comfortis stuff, and it's 1620mg just of the active ingredient per chew, and that doesn't include the chew itself so I think trying to jam something that size into a little pill pocket intended to hide at most a small capsule might result in something that could likely choke a horse. Trifexis looks like the better bet overall, as it also carries along an anti-parasitic so it will prevent heartworm and other worm infestations as well. Still a bit spendy, though.

in theory, I could wear this on Fridays but it would be way too hot. you ever work on showering with a 90 year old hip patient? they need the heat turned up and the room steamy.

I can't be wearing jeans!

Yeah, but I bet you get to wear scrubs instead and scrubs are about as comfy as it gets. Basically they're jammies for work!

It's my night off and there is a roller derby bout. It'll be a massacre, the teams playing for the championship have already been determined. One of the teams is already in it 2-1 meets 0-3. I'll cheer for the underdog, they could surprise. Meanwhile, another chill day, so much so I'll make chili around 3 so that Doug and the caregiver have something to eat. It's too muddy for any serious yard work, so I'm annoying the internet and catching up on reading.
