That sucks balls, Scuba Ben. Any point to speaking to them?
Here's hoping today's better for you, Solfy. Yesterday was a good day. I got out twice, once for grocery shopping and once even just for a sudden hankering for my favorite fast food. That took advantage of some morning steady time. The afternoon had him all dyskinetic, but he made it downstair in time to settle in and watch a whole disc of Barney Miller. The one fly in the ointment is that the pharmacy is tardy in getting one of my meds to me. I can't call it in earlier to make sure you have time to order it if it is on autofill, now can I? |

I forgot to mention, our lodger moved out yesterday. All copacetic, she gave me a hug when she turned in the key. She's a friend of a friend and we saved her, her pug and her academic career by providing cheap lodging with no pet deposit so she could stay in town. She was so quiet there was never anything to say about her. I keep going into the room just for the fabulous novelty of being in a room with no unnecessary objects, just furniture. We have a guest room now! An actual guest room. I've lived in tents and now I have a guest room. Far fuckin' out, y'know? What a long strange trip it's been and whatnot.

Now I want hanging globes, Peeking! I just don't think they'd have the same effect in palm trees. You have a lovely place.
I realized a few weeks ago that I was missing my license and a debit card. I have no idea how long they were gone, or whether they were stolen or lost, but a check of everything says that no fraud has happened. I did an online theft report just to be safe (and because without a theft report, a new license is $25). As soon as I get my report number, I can get my new license. It's just a pain in the butt. The card missing was Mom's, and fortunately it's not tied to anything, so it wasn't a big deal to get a new one. |

Duckie, the picture you posted of your lovely view and glass balls has provided me my only moment of calm today. Thank you for that. It has been an incredibly bad day here at work and I came this l l close to throwing up my arms and walking out forever. Fortunately, my sanity returned and I just closed my office door and took about 100 deep breaths.
Congrats to your daughter too! |

Oh man, sorry your day is sucking so hard taters! If it helps any, I've discovered you're my arch nemesis so there's that, right?
I spent my day cleaning the house and making birfday turkey hash for my boy. SIL sent him off for a massage (great minds think alike!) and a sensory deprivation tank float and she's not even allowing him to drive himself there and back--she wants him to stay zen. She's a keeper, that one! |

So we are supposed to get the first snow tomorrow. We brought the mint plant and the geranium inside and harvested all the basil. The calla lily will die back quickly, it doesn't like cold. It grew enthusiastically this year, but never flowered. Having done a bit of googling, I am going to fertilize it harder next season.
Now I have to set up the grow lights and put everybody but the poinsettia under them. Last edited by Wolf Larsen; 4th November 2015 at 07:32 PM. |

Not yet, Jag. It's very hard to tell from photos, but the high water mark is about five feet below the level of the bench. And because we're in a bay that is fairly narrow where we are, there is not usually a lot of wave action. (Gentle lapping is what we normally get.) There was only one day in the last year when the combination of high tide and super-gusty winds created a sea that scared me a little, and even then the spray was only minimal in our yard.
Thanks for all of the nice words about our yard. ![]() Taters, I'm so sorry about your situation at work. ![]() |

There's nothing wrong with small homes--they're the wave of the future!

To be truthful, I brought up the small-home aspect for only one real reason. I want to say that I'm not, er, I'm not part of "the one percent". This piece of property with this small house? It cost about $60,000.00. You've been sharing on these boards some very interesting information about living on the big island of Hawaii. This is similar. If you can find a way to live in rural Nova Scotia, you can have beautiful, waterfront property for pretty cheap. ![]() (We bought two beautiful waterfront properties here. We hope that one will bring in some revenue as a vacation rental. We shall see! We regret nothing, and in fact are more and more happy and hopeful about what we've started.) ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I've been trying to noodle out ways of getting a cheap chunk of land around here and moving my shed house onto it since it's meant to be moved on a truck anyway and it's pretty much a finished place. I'd need a septic system dug and propane and solar panels at minimum (and probably a woodstove, practically speaking) but I could likely function off grid pretty easily. It's getting very tempting to me. Very.
And no, Wolf, I don't really use the old house for much more than storage. ![]() |

We had the sort of day that used to drive me bughouse. The old man's in a stubborn 'I can do it all myself' sort of mood. Makes waiting on him tough, he doesn't want any help, but he'll struggle hours over something that could be done in a few minutes if he accepted my help. This used to frustrate me terribly, but I've learned to let it be. The day's getting better. We're going to watch some TV.

Peeking if that vacation rental were on the west coast, we'd rent that in a hot second this summer. But it's a little far for us, especially with a new baby on the way.

Long week, but I did make some progress at work. Looking forward to the weekend. Going out tomorrow evening with a good friend.
Daughter sent pics of her wedding dress (she changed her mind and took back the first one she bought). I have to say I LOVE this one. ![]() Bro doing ok. He's not pleased with his progress, but I am. He has some unrealistic expectations when it comes to post-op recovery. ![]() |

I'm up and absorbing caffeine--looks like a pretty nice day, sun is actually out and all. Builder is here banging on the porch and as soon as I have my caffeine ratio corrected I'll be out there undoing all the nice rock work I put in over the water supply.

My dad used to make a venison chili that was out of this world. He used to go deer hunting once a year and freeze enough for the winter and spring.

Mmm, I love me some good venison. That is not to be compared with bad venison. I've had both, but fortunately, the good has outweighed the bad.
This has really been a bad week. Today's final turd topper was finding out I'll need to take my Jeep to the dealership. Long story, short: I picked up my Jeep from the auto body shop on Tuesday. They had replaced my bumper, etc. However, the "blind spot" sensors in my side mirrors stay on continuously when I'm in drive; even if no one is next to me. On top of that, when I turn on my turn signal, I get the audio alert which would normally occur if someone was in my blind spot and I was attempting to move into their lane. They don't come on at all if my foot is on the brake or if I'm in reverse. Additionally, the audio alert doesn't work if someone is behind me if I want to back up. Took it back today, and they couldn't figure it out. So, I now need to take the Jeep into the dealership, let them repair and have it charged to the body shop. Not a HUGE deal, but just a freakin' annoyance. That stuff all worked just fine when I dropped it off for repair. ![]() I am slammed with work and the additional running around for my husband's medical appointments and what not. I just don't even want to deal with it, but I will. Another day lost to stupidity. I've brought my work laptop home because the one thing I needed to accomplish today at work did not get done. It has to be done and sent out before Monday. Ugh. I'm sorry to hear about the sale failure, SB. I really hope someone else comes along soonest. I'm glad you received good news at the doctor's office today, rigs. |

High fives and commiserating hugs all around as needed!
![]() ![]() ![]() Well, all done! I have fancy pants new stairs up to my porch with handrails and a nice metal roof cover so I no longer will have to walk through the curtain o'rain to get out the door. My water is all PEX to the bib, all insulated and gravelled in and the flagstones reset and they're actually laying better than the first time around. My door closes properly and locks and everything! Didn't cost all that much and the satisfaction value is HUGE. I don't need to worry about falling down the makeshift step especially when it's all slick and troublesome, getting the groceries in will be a breeze and I don't need to worry about my water supply--that was really getting on my nerves. For some weird reason Wilbur didn't want to start and needed a jump which has me very ![]() Time for a long hot shower, some food and sleep--I been busy and I'm tired! |

Today I fixed a rain gutter that wasn't draining right. It's in good shape and well attached, but some genius hung it sloped way too much. The downspout at one end stays dry almost all the time while the other end overflows regularly. So rather than taking the gutter down and fixing it right, I added another downspout at the very end of the run. That ought to keep the water away from the foundation.
Starting it repeatedly for short periods of idling to dry out the seats will run the battery down pretty fast. I meant to mention, the easy way to dry out a car is to prop up an electric heater and fan on a board across the seats. Set the heater for about 60 and leave the downwind windows cracked 1/4 inch for a couple days. I like to use a GFI extension cord for that kind of thing. |
|
||||
Wilbur didn't get wet, though, that was Agnes. And a couple days driving around with the heater on and the windows down with a towel on the seat did the trick, she's all toasty inside, no harm done. I dunno what Wilbur's deal was--but I'm probably going to get into the habit of taking off the negative side terminal and just reattaching it when I need to run the truck. If there's some sort of ground fault draining the battery down that will fix its little red wagon.

The Plymouth Voyager is also dead, I think a new battery will resurrect it, though. I'm going to need it more now that I have a tiny go-kart of a car.
It's a peaceful morning at the casa. ToM's had his seven o' clock meds and I'm caught up until 8:30 for first breakfast. The caregiver comes at noon to cover me until eight. I'll have all day to walk around shirtless at Phoenix Pagan Pride. I'll even have time and funds to take someone out to dinner, maybe. I'll shower, shave and oil the tats around 11 after 2nd breakfast, no sense in being too ready, too early. It's a new caregiver, so I'll have to give her a quick briefing on the care and feeding of my guy. I'm on a health kick, I'm killing my first appetite pangs with a granny smith apple instead of a 2nd energy drink. Shaping up to be a great day for the Khampster. Here's wishing everyone a great Saturday! Last edited by Khampelf; 7th November 2015 at 05:53 AM. Reason: No reason. Added good wishes while I was here, |

Happy Saturday, folks, the SUN is out! (and up) - we are now in the time of year where I can't take that for granted, apparently. it might be all cloudy tomorrow so I'm going to get outside today.
sadly, I have an newly increased fear of walking my dogs. back in Medford I was walking three of them when Fritz was attacked by a loose dog and almost killed - we haven't any of us been the same since. last weekend I was walking them Sunday morning with my stun gun in my purse and holding a T ball bat (pink) and yet it was only luck that saved us: the giant (beautiful) German Shepard that sprung out of the shrubbery and snarled at Fritz was faster than I was. before I even realized what was going on the Shepard was gone. if he'd been serious, Fritz would have been hurt - at least - again. since then I find myself very reluctant to walk them and I have to get over that. also, back to walking in the middle of the street instead of the sidewalk so I can see what's coming. ![]() and FUCK people that think it's OK to have their dogs loose because they are in their front yard or their driveway or garage with their person. when your dogs runs out at us it first scares us and then you give us dirty looks for making you yell at your dog which is loose dammit. this happens ALL THE DAMN TIME! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I love the pretty floats you hung in the trees, PDuck!
It's odd to not have tons of overtime at hunting season, usually so many coworkers use vacation time I'm hauling in extra bucks. I didn't intend that pun but it rather delights me so I'm leaving it there. Tomorrow is my son's birthday so I'm off to the store to gather dinner makings. Gotta go shopping for new work jeans too and there may be a pedicure happening if I manage my time well enough. |
|

Yup, just about as sore as I expected I'd be and forecast is for rain off and on all day so screwit, this couch is MINE. Maybe I will hang a shelf or a hook rack or summat so I don't feel like a complete wastrel. Maybe.
![]() BFF came over last night to admire my new stairs and we ended up watching the unedited version of "Trainwreck" with Amy Schumer and if you haven't seen this, do so. It was screamingly hilarious but still managed to wedge a rom-com into a Judd Apatow movie. I hope Schumer (who also wrote it) and Apatow work together again, they obviously have some serious synergy. |

Wolfette is now ashamed of me. I told her that I was at the gym and they were blasting this song and I was bopping to it on the treadmill and really liked it.
It was by Fall Out Boy. She told me that my Best Dad status was under review. |
