OP manages to sort of realize that Qin's whole schtick is "probably" sarcastic, and he shouldn't have been moderated, blah blah blah. I'm just glad he got a paddlin.

The reasoning is quite simple. Qin kept using homosexual as a slur, against a politician sure, but he was using it as a slur (sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek, whatever). I would expect a moderator would act the same way against someone who kept using the word Jew as a slur against a public figure, whether they actually meant it or not. It's really no different. For example, I highly doubt PSXer is actually anti-semitic, but he's in the box forever now because he used Jew in a negative way, but not even against someone here on the boards.

I say it was good moderating, and Qin's little game of coloring rubio's name in pink was supposed to be a clever "gotcha! I'm not technically disobeying your moderator orders! nya nya nay!!" and it got slapped down just as hard and got him suspended. Good.

My new posting style (which it should be noted is more a matter of tone then of actual content-the vast majority of what I've written is what I actually believe) was largely the product of deliberate decision, although in retrospect I almost certainly overdid it especially in terms of how people would receive it. I was annoyed by the way most Dopers essentially gave the same intellectually vacuous John Oliver-style treatment of the Trump campaign mostly focused on mocking his style and smugly predicted his imminent defeat, despite all evidence otherwise. It helped that I also frequent a US politics forum where "ironic"/"left-wing" Trump support is pretty strong and that the Dope has had a particular infusion of incredibly self-righteous posters (SlackerInc, Johnny Ace etc.) recently.
