Things I like VS Things I don't like

@Fenris @Kat @Inner Stickler @TheChileanBlob @Borborygmi @Detroit Hoser, @faithfool, @Jaglavak, @Kat, @KidVermicious, @NAF1138, @Rat Diva, @silenus @The Futility of Nihilism, @Zeener Diode

Regarding candy, I HATE:

Anything taffy.
Anything gummy.
Anything that has nougat in it.
Anything that has coconut in it.
Anything that has a liquorice flavor.
Anything that has a cinnamon flavor.
Anything that is either coffee or toffee flavored.
MOST anything that I have to suck on (so, most all hard candies)
MOST things that have a mint flavor (peppermint, spearmint, wintergreen)

Some specific bars I hate:

Mounds
Almond Joy
Butterfinger
Baby Ruth
Skor
Heath

Things I LOVE:

Anything peanut buttered, especially if it's paired with chocolate.
Anything milk chocolate
Anything with nuts of any kind (peanuts, almonds, etc)
MOST kinds of candy bar

Specific ones I love:

Anything Reeses
Anything Snickers
Payday
Kit Kat
3 Musketeers
Milky Way
Mr Goodbar
Hershey's with or without nuts
5th Ave
Whatchamacalit
Krackle
Nestle's Crunch (is this even in the tourny?)
All M&Ms, except for plain
Twix
100 Grand
Take 5

See? I don't hate everything. I like more than I hate.

I meant to post this OUTSIDE of the poll forum, actually...as to not interrupt Rat Diva.
@Fenris, any way you could move it to the food forum, maybe, please?

Apologies.

Nestle's Crunch got kicked in Round 1, I believe. I know it was in there somewhere, because I voted for it.

I'm surprised that Idle and I don't correlate more on Borb's charts.

No need to move it on my behalf, Idle. I won't be posting any polls until the current round times out so you're not interrupting anything

ETA I see Fenris already moved it, but really I don't care if anyone wants to post stuff in the megapoll forum. If I disagree, I'll just torture you with pictures of liquorice-flavored coconut taffy with a nougat center

I like Whoppers plenty (my favorite way as a kid was to let them dissolve in a cup of hot cocoa... umnumnumnum) I just like pralines better. I did vote for Robin Eggs, which are just pimped-out Whoppers anyway.

And Salerno Butter Cookies go on your fingers, too.

I will add that Idle Thoughts' "hate" list is longer than mine. Although, most chocolate candy will beat out even the things I like from Idle's hate list.

Well, maybe if we branched out into all food, but with candy-related hates, his list is longer.

Really my bugaboos are coconut, licorice that isn't of the twizzler/red vine variety, malted milk balls and stuff like almonds or other nuts that ruin the lovely softness of the chocolate. Peanuts are generally ok but keep 'em to M&Ms, snickers, payday and that sort of thing. Dark chocolate just isn't sweet enough and cinnamon flavor that isn't hot is fine. But I think that's about it, really. Idle is insane, though with his hatred of taffies, gummies and so on.

You people are weird. I bet you used to curl your upper lip and rest a No. 2 pencil on it, pretending it was your mustache. Because I totally never did that. Nope. Just like I never put gloves on over my fist, just so I could pretend to smash my fingers in doors. Nuh-uh.

I am surprised by the HATE for Butterfinger coupled with the LOVE for 5th Avenue. Now of course these are different enough so as to not strictly be Nestle/Hershey analogs... but they're similar enough that I'm surprised they got shout-outs on opposing lists.

I don't get it, either. Personally I like Butterfinger/5th Avenue/Clark about equally, right behind Mounds and Milky Way Dark.

If they're in something sweet enough to counteract the dark chocolate bitterness, it's fine but I would generally prefer a version made with sweeter chocolate.

It's very simple: Butterfingers inside get's stuck in my teeth constantly as I eat it. 5th Ave doesn't.

I love Butterfinger. It's the best candy bar. Well, Heath bars.

But Butterfingers are too messy to eat. As everyone said. Is it better to eat them on a cold day, or a hot day? I have had bad luck both ways.

Now I want one.

It looks like I pretty much love everything Idle Thoughts hates. Well, except Snickers. I will eat a Snickers.

I'm not a dark chocolate hater (well, I don't really like the extremely dark chocolate, like the ones labeled 90-something percent dark). but chocolate chips are semi-sweet, not regular dark chocolate.

Yeah, but that's what regular dark chocolate candy bars are made of. Like Mounds and Special Dark and those.

Psst semi sweet is dark chocolate. Same stuff different marketing gimmick. Don't tell the others or they will start hating chocolate chip cookies.

Also, I don't think anyone really likes the 90% nonsense. But a good 60% cacao bar is awesome with some red wine or an apple.

It's not the same dark chocolate formula that's used in candy bars, though. It tastes different. I've eaten enough semi-sweet chocolate chips straight from the bag to say this with some authority. And it's not just different the way that Lindt dark chocolate is different than Godiva dark chocolate is different than Ghiradelli dark chocolate, either. Because although I haven't see a dark chocolate Nestle bar to compare Nestle Toll House morsels to, I have eaten Ghiaradelli chocolate chips and they taste different than their candy bars.

Difference of scale possibly perception. Semi sweet is between 50-75% cacao usually around 60 and bittersweet is higher. Same stuff, different shape. Potentially different quality.

Dammit, I just ate a chocolate chip and a square of ghirardelli cabernet matinee and it's pretty much the same except the ghirardelli is wine-ier.

In my defense, chocolate chip cookies are not my favorite cookie.

There's no getting around the fact that milk chocolate is more palatable than it's darker counterpart. Dark chocolate is an acquired taste, much like wine, whiskey, and cigars. And just like those, dark chocolate depends greatly on its confectioner to achieve its flavor; when done correctly the results are sublime, but when botched it's an affront to good taste.
