Updating Outlook

Not too many years ago, I took leave of my senses and started running Windows 10. Now I'm being told my Outlook settings are out of date and should be upgraded. I am not being told how to do that, or, for that matter, how to shit can Win10 and go back to Win7, which I was perfectly happy with. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. My computer skills are marginal, at best.

If you keep a camera next to the computer, you can take a photo of the error messages as they fly by. That will help a whole bunch when trying to figure out what it wants.

By default Windows only updates it's system files and not applications like Outlook. You can update Outlook by running Windows Update, and under Advanced Options select "Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows."

That's right.

Once upon a time I had a new computer. Then one day it sad "I shall upgrade to Windows 10. You can't stop me! Bwahahaha!" And it did. So the computer lived happily ever after, as the user could never figure out how to de-10 it without killing it.

Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Go back to Windows 7

Or Windows 8. Or "Previous version of Windows 10", if you've upgraded to a new feature update. You originally had 30 days to switch back if you didn't like it, but I think MS cut this to 15 days. I'm not sure. In any case, it works pretty well: I encountered a number of serious bugs in upgrading from 1511 to 1607, so I reverted back, which took about 25 minutes and worked flawlessly. Later on I upgraded from 1511 straight to 1703 without any issues.

First of all, what version of Outlook are we talking about? 2016? 2013? 2010? 2016 as part of Office 365? Or what?

And I don't guess you can get a screencap that shows exactly what "Outlook settings" you're referring to? 'Cos I've never heard of that error message, and I've been an IT guy for 21 years this August. I can't think of any scenario where you'd even NEED to upgrade your "settings" - after all Outlook 2016 on Windows 10 still uses the same Mail applet in Control Panel that Outlook 98 used 20 years ago!

Apparently it's one of the few things they've written that has never needed to be fixed.

Hi, Jackie...

I wasn't ignoring you, I just don't tend to my threads very well. Call it sloppy housekeeping.
