Ok, so here's how it is ...

1. Oxirane
2. Vanta Black
3. C2H5OH
4. SmartAleq
5. Catsmeow
6. Raventhief
7. Professor Pepperwinkle
8. Colby11
9. Silverjan
10. Archangel
11. SNFaulkner
12. Biotop
13. Mighty Quinn

I'd like to have 15 people sign up, so we can then use 3 for mentors and have a roster of 12 official players. We have time still, so let's see what happens.

I can play if you need the bodies. I don't usually use an aggressive style, so hopefully I won't put anyone off.

Seriously. I'd like the challenge of playing two games at once, but I know I couldn't do it without post restrictions in one or (preferably?) both Games. What do you think, Pleo? Dante? I'd hope to make the I-Ching "bot" more fun all ways around.

Discuss via PM? (Dante, forward PM if any through Pleo until one of us is Dead in Library game.)

I think Players with posting restrictions are a genuine (though antique) rule option in Mafia/Werewolves. Perhaps it would add useful variety to the Noob Game to enter the IC-bot as a competitor!

May I submit (two instances of) my I-Ching bot — with self-imposed posting restrictions** —and play two games simultaneously here? (Revealing details of the bot would be out of order, but I hope it will perform better than Swammi.

Is this some fancy way of doing a random vote? Aren't you afraid this will end up bot-ching up the game?

Swammi (֍ ၍ᙡᗩᙢᙢᙦᖇᗠᗩᙢᒞ ֎) has Logged Out. Please withdraw his application.

I leave it up to the Mod whether he will allow a computer-program to participate in this Noob game.

Personally Swammi (I.Bot) , I'd prefer for this game, that you only play as Swammi, if you are still gonna play. Playing as a bot with posting restrictions can add an element of confusion to some of the new players. Considering so much of the game is reading a players posts and analyzing it for details and tells... it'd be more user friendly to just be yourself.

I just joined like five minutes ago. Stumpled upon this slice of the internet on a random google search, saw there was mafia, and decided to give it a go. I've played quite a bit of mafia in the past, but haven't touched it in like four years. So if there's still room I'd love to join in!

My N00b got a new job I will wrestle him when he gets home from work tonight.
Since he lives in my house -now-I have no problem stepping down as an active player to mentor him if that is needed.

I forgot what he chose for a screen name but I have been telling him about these games for years!

I missed it if it was already discussed- but is mentoring allowed off board? wait that is not what I mean.

If he plays and I am a registered player too can we discuss the game at the dinner table?

If mentoring someone we don't have personal contact with can we private chat- or will that only work if the mentor is NOT a registered player?

@Dante G, I realize you are still playing in Colby11's game, but when you get a chance, can you update the player list to see how many we have signed up? Biotop, Archangel, and Professor P have offered to mentor, and by my count (with Swammi in) it looks likes we have 17 players. That gives us options - 13 players with Bio, AA, Prof.P and LF mentoring, or 12 players with raven also mentoring her friend as well.

What are your thoughts?

EDT: Biotop is not spelled, Biptop...shockingly...

Sure thing ...

1. Oxirane
2. Vanta Black
3. C2H5OH
4. SmartAleq
5. Catsmeow
6. Raventhief
7. Professor Pepperwinkle
8. Colby11
9. Silverjan
10. Archangel
11. SNFaulkner
12. Biotop
13. Mighty Quinn
14. Deadcat
15. Lightfoot
16. Goreae
17. HalfAHobit

The bolded names are the newbies as far as I can see. Everyone else has played a few games if not more.

5 New Players
12 Regulars/Semi Regulars

I will need 5 Regulars/Semis to be mentors. Please post in this thread if you volunteer to be a mentor only. I just want to make an official list. I will take the first 5 volunteers.

Here's how I think it should work :

If you are a mentor, you will only know what alignment your mentoree is. If they are Town, then you both will have access to a separate Chat Page and you can give them tips and advice based on your knowledge of the game. The mentors will not be able to vote obviously and will not be permitted to post in the game thread until the game is over.

If the player you are mentoring is Scum, then you will instead have access to the Scum Chat and you will be able to plan and advise withe the other Scum players and any other mentors that may be there. But just like before, you will not be able to post in the game nor vote.

Does this sound fair to all?

I'm liking this - so LF is mentor to HaH regardless, if they are Scum, she's a Scum coach, if not, she'a a personal mentor on their own QT chat.

So, there's one, back to the Batphone:

@Biotop
@Archangel
@Prof. Pepperwinkle
@The Mighty Quinn
@raventhief

EDT: Dante, I like this set up, I totally agree.

EDT2: I saw your concerns earlier, LF as HaH is a roomie, and as a player, since you are not active, my feeling is, mentor the hell out of them, dinner table, walks in the park, the important thing to me is you are not part of the game, and as a mentor, you are allowed any access you have in MHO...that is a Mod call, of course, but since he's a roomie and we want fresh meat, um, new players, I'd say,

Agreed. I don't really need a mentor.

So far:

LF is mentoring HaH (unless Scum, than Scum coach);

raven is mentoring Catsmeow (unless Scum,than Scum coach);

Biotop is mentor

goreae is fine without a coach, so maybe one of the regulars play?

You should have an "Inbox" on the upper row of your display -

Your screen might look different from mine because of a different skin, but through the "Inbox" or the "Private Messages" you should be able to access DMs...

That said, I think there's a requirement that you have 10 posts before your DMs become active.

I would personally like the list of ACTUAL players to be only 12 for this game. Since we have 17 people signed up now and only 4 of them needing mentors, would anyone volunteer to back out of the game? This way we'd have 16 signed up : 12 players and 4 mentors.

Thank you in advance.

I think the mod can override this. I didn't know this when I signed up (although I have since seen people throwing in posts to get to the right number) and I got and sent my game PMs anyhow. I guess by the time I sent one I did have 10 posts but when the game started I had like 3.

Not that I am discouraging anyone from post-count padding.

I'd say let the extra regular be another Scum coach, especially if it's a newbie-heavy team.

If this is going to start in the next couple weeks I should probably back out.

If we're waiting until Colby's and then Pleo's game ends I suggest we wait until closer to game start to see who is still interested/available.

Yes, this game won't start until after Colby's game and probably well during the early stages of Pleo's.

So, at least 1 week from now.

I see a possible flaw here.

There is a chance that many will think that one of the new kids are Scum- how will you discourage the players from DKing the noobs 1 by one until they find a Scum in the mix

"it will all be randed"- might not work

It's a great point, and one I hope will be addressed by the mentors - don't be an Oxi and run your mouth. At the same time, don't sound like your mentor.

Perhaps players will be open to a the first Day as players settle into their roles. Day One yeets suck, and I don't want to discourage a noob from ever playing again if they are unceremoniously tossed without understanding why.

I don't have an answer, LF, but that's a good point.

Like I said in a previous discussion I think the mod of each game should choose the term formerly known as lynch that fits the colour of their game.

don't like yeet either

so I kindof understand the idea of how to play, its like a choose your own adventure with multiple people and one of them is the creator.. sounds like a table top rpg without the dice. can someone give me a better explanation of the power roles. I've been given a general explanation before but would like something more in depth if that's alright.

Sure, I'll give you a brief rundown of some of the ones I use in my games.

Cop - Target a player at Night by sending me a Private Message saying who you want to target. I will then send you a message at the end of Night phase telling you that players alignment.

Bodyguard - You target a player at Night and if that player is targeted for a Kill, then you will protect them from the kill. This also sometimes called a Doctor.

Vigilante - You target a player at Night that you want to Kill.

Tracker - You target a player at Night and you will find out if that player targeted anyone else. But you do NOT find out what they did, only who they targeted, if anyone.

Watcher - You target a player at Night and find out if anyone else targeted them. You won't find the action, only which player.

Roleblocker - Usually on the Scum team. This player targets a player at Night and blocks them from using their power if they had one.

These are the basic Power Roles. I may not use all of them and I may use some others, but these are the most common.

And as a sorta noob, I think it's important to demystify Mafia a little more. People who view games seem to come away with the impression that it's a free-for-all, when in fact, it has very specific rules determined by the Mod. The critical part is, the free-for-all comes from the posting, you are free to say anything you want, but you will be totally judged by what you post. And if you post nothing, that, too, will be judged.

I'm actually really psyched that EtOH is being mentored by Bio and Smarty by Prof. P, great match-ups IMHO, they could be really formidable players.

What's the general rules for mafia here? A couple special ones from the FTB forums were votesmiting, no quoting or screenshotting DMs, and any in-game DM must include the GM.

FTB? DM? GM? votesmiting?
DM- Direct message (We use PM or private message but same concept)
GM- Game Mod/Manager

I am not playing (I had some bad experiences in the past) but I always thought the game was interesting. While I don't watch the online games here, I thought about volunteering for this one, as I have never played-by-post. The question I am most interested in knowing is: When a player is eliminated, does everyone else get to know which side they were on?

When I first played (Werewolf) around 1999, we didn't reveal anything upon elimination. Later games I played around 2012, everyone did reveal. What do people do here?

Here, the Mod sets up a QuickTopic private chat room for Scum, and one for Spoilers. Anyone not in the active game can PM the Mod and asked to be spoiled - you'll get access to the private chat room where the Mod lays out the roles and the players. Usually when a players is eliminated, they are either sent the link or request it. Most of the time the Spoiled chat room also contains a link to the Scum chat room, so while you cannot participate there, you can follow along with their discussions.

They make it really easy to follow a game.

General rules we have are ...

No editing of a post. If you post and mess up. Post again. Editing a post looks suspicious, so don't do it.

Usually a MOD will not allow people to post direct quotes or screen shots from the Role PM that the MOD sent them.

Yes, when a player is voted off or Killed in the Night, their identity and alignment are revealed after death to the whole remaining players.

FTB = Feed The Beast. It's a modded minecraft thing. I used to play werewolf on the FTB forums before people lost interest and moved on.

As Colby said, DM is another word for PM. Direct Message vs Private Message. They're interchangeable.

Also as Colby said, GM = Game Master.

And Votesmiting is a mechanic where if you don't vote you'll get smitten. Along with it are "antismite" votes, which is just an abbreviated way to say "I'm voting for X person because I don't have any specific suspicions and don't want to get smited"
