The house came with an old cast iron framed bench that the wood slats were just about done one. With some excellent advice from @Random Precision, I ordered some Cypress slats to replace for less than red oak or cedar. Excellent wood miller on Etsy.





The first 2 pics shows one last old slat and the first new one.

To shape the front slat, I broke out my draw knife. Awesome tool, for work like this far superior to a wood plane.

I reconditioned the aligning strip (wire brush & rustoleum). Total job was a little over an hour.

I did the drilling freehand with 2 drills, one with a spade bit and one with the exact size for the bolt hole.
