Masks at Midnight - Day 1
The lights comeback on with a bang as the door swings wide against it's hinges. A well-worn character steps through the threshold, and with an exasperated sigh, says "Thank God! The phones are out, the roads is washed out and my car's in the ditch on the other side of a newly forming river. My name is Red. I sure am glad to see some folks keeping safe in here. I expect that well have to bunker up in here against the storm as the rescue folks won't be able to reach us till morning. I left a note in my car said i was proceeding here on foot." Once everyone is settled back down, the group assembles makeshift bedding from the church's ample supplies. It's an uneasy night as everyone would rather be at home in their own beds.
Dawn breaks with a scream. Red is dead. His throat was slit during the night, and in what looks to be his last act, he's scrawled in blood on the floor. "you cannot run, once the rite has begun" Panicked, one of the group rushes for the entry way, but the doors will not budge. The Trap is Sprung. Day 1 is started. Nominations will be accepted on a first come - first serve basis starting at 8pm ET on October 13th. The day will continue until someone is executed, or October 15th at 8pm ET. The available number of votes for today is 11. Day begin/Night end PMs are going out now. Sorry for the delay I had a scheduling conflict. |

And the winners of Night Zero are
Bicycle Repair Man Mordenkainen TexCat one of who is The Publicist. Did they get me first? Am I actually a Patsy? I can't know and neither can you, unless other players decide to help Town. |

I am not the Publicist. I have already revealed something about my role. Unless I am the Patsy I can possibly be of use at some point.

The Publicist - Each night (including Night 0) you pick someone to decieve, they will remain decieved for tonight and tomorrow night. They will not know they have been decieved. While they are decieved any information they recieve from the moderator may be false.
FOR my reference when I am not so fippin ired I will look closer |

And yes, I already have been in conversation with the Mod about the Irony of all of this, that I get to, apparently, dispute Pleonast. But, I guess this is the game we are playing. And despite that we are playing it, I feel that we've already been played. But. Well, I at least get Pleonast's point, even if, ultimately, I feel like I can't do anything with his results. ---- Well, this has been a great game guys. I am so glad I got to play it. I'm not sure what I am going to do for the remaining three and a half weeks. So glad we had so much fun with this game. |

Why do I feel like this game is best played with a Sopa Opera-esque pipe organ "sting" after every reveal?

It’s part-puzzle, part-mafia, and at least 2 players are intentionally misleading us.
I’m the therapist (or Patsy, so take my results with a pinch of salt until that’s resolved…) 0 scum adjacent to me on the player list, so that would be Mahaloth and Colby. Presumably I won’t learn anything new until one of those two leave the game and then I’d get a result on Meeko or Bashorian. So far the claimed info is consistent: - Pleo - Private Eye - one of Bicycle Repair Man, Mordenkainen and TexCat is the Publicist - Texcat - not Publicist - Bicycle Repair Man - claims not Publicist but has received info - Bashorian - Child - Meeko - Gossip - one of Pleo, Mahaloth and me is Patsy - Guiri - Therapist - neither of Mahaloth and Colby are scum |

Hey, I'm the Seer and each night, I can look at two players to see if they are the Cult Leader. Not scum in general, just if they are specifically the Cult Leader.
Meeko and Guiri are NOT the Cult Leader. Nice, but hardly cleared from being scum entirely. |

I am not the Publicist.
Of course, if I were the Publicist I would deny it. So would any Townie - and indeed any other non-Publicist Mafiate. I think it's likely that the Publicist does exist. Private Eye's role gets three names and one Mafia role, and the claim that one of the players has the named role - and therefore the role is in the game. If there were no Publicist, the results would not say that the Publicist is in the game. In fact the only way the publicist could not be in the game is if Pleo is a Mafiate. I give that no credence without substantial support. So it's likely Pleo is Towwn - albeit possibly deluded Town. |

It's good to know that I am not likely to be the Patsy. Thanks Meeko!
Updating Guiri's summary: - Pleo - Private Eye - one of Bicycle Repair Man, Mordenkainen and TexCat is the Publicist - Texcat - not Publicist - Bicycle Repair Man - claims not Publicist but has received info - Bashorian - Child - Meeko - Gossip - one of Pleo, Mahaloth and Guiri is Patsy - Guiri - Therapist - neither of Mahaloth and Colby are scum - Mahaloth - Seer - neither of Meeko and Guiri are the Cult Leader |

Therapist, Seer, Mortician, Priest: These roles continue to gather information. Up to the player when to claim. Delaying means probably gathering more info, but also delays when Town can use the info. This is mostly likely where Scum false claims will be, since with a Patsy and Publicist potentially in play, wrong results aren't necessarily incriminating. Harbinger, Veteran, Vigilante, Politician: These roles have powers that will only be used once. I'd prefer to see early claims from this group, but that's only personal preference. This is also a great place for Town to make false claims, especially those in the continuing-power group. Servant, (Patsy), White Rose, Child, Miller: These roles have anti-Town effects and should claim now to avoid them. Late claims are suspicious, but not auto-execute like the Day-One group. |

The fundamental deceit of this game is to make us question the "foundational" aspects of the standard mafia game.
As we are, and probably will continue to do so throughout the game, talking about the Patsy role, I would assume that the foundational is adequately "shook". Therefore, I posit, we must look elsewhere, for the foundational, within this immediate game. We know that Patsies [may] exist. I posit that multiple of them do. I'm not good on my (Sexton?) math here, but I think the entire "Weight" of power that the Scum team has, in any given permutation. That is, this game just, on it's face, is complicated, and being sufficiently complicated, we are going to have a lot of Sexton points in the mix. --- Dammit, I am adding this part in last here. There was more here, that slipped my mind. That, if we can (and should) embrace that, this is an advanced game, and that, even for me, we all come at this game with some skill, we should be forced to conclude that the J point mix is up there. I'm just saying that, Patsies are vanillas in this game, and we need a lot of them, seeing all the win cons, and the Hail Mary type roles in the game. The threading of various needles, needs patsies. --- What is better than a game where everyone has a power? A game where people kinda sorta, not really have powers..... and thus revert to vanilla, at any sign of pressure against. Related, we have roles that are "french vanilla" [I believe I've covered this in other games] .... roles that are marginally more than vanilla, or that have been, in a word, neutered from their power. The Gossip not getting anymore messages in and of / because / of their stated power, is a member to this classification. All of that to say we can go two routes here. The ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() or The Meeko, but is he actually trying to make a play at being a mature Mafia player route : I think we have as many Patsies in this game, as we would need vanilla roles in any ""regular"" mafia game. [C7 or whatever, the standard all vanilla, save for a cop and doc and like 3 scum] I'm not sure how to say it different. I will not digress. I think it will serve us well to literally do the math on it all .... and substitute Patsies for Vanillas. ![]() I'm not sure if this helps, and admitedly it was half baked, but I think it needs to be said, one, and two, we need everything out sooner, rather than later, if we are going to sudoku this thing into a win. Because, as others have posted, this is more puzzle than Mafia at this point. |

A few questions have come in about the ability to send messages. Please allow me to answer them:
Q: Can I send my two allotted messages to two different players? A: Yes. Q: Can I send my two messages directly to those players? A: No. They must be sent using me as the proxy. Any message pertaining to this game between two players during the course of the game sent directly is strictly against the rules. Q: Will you send whatever text I send, exactly as I specify? A: Yes. With the following caveats. I will not forward any message that contains any derogatory or abusive language (this includes but is not limited to slurs, dead names, intentionally incorrect pronouns, etc). I will also not forward any message that I consider to be harassment. If there is any ambiguity, I will ask you to change the wording of your message. |
