Can I point out the hotness of an old movie actor here?
I'm leery of doing so at the Dope because of rules against leering. Ha.
So if it's okay with y'all: An episode of the old serial Buck Rogers was on TCM today. I had never really watched any of these before, but today I checked it out. Damn, Buster Crabbe was hot. I wondered if he ever starred in anything except Buck Rogers. Yep, at least he was in this. Woo, it's the first time I've ever seen pre-Hays Code beefcake. It's even more flesh-baring than some of the early Joan Blondell movies I've seen. |

FYI: On the Dope we specifically allow for commenting on celebrities who's living is tied to their attractiveness with the prime examples being actors and models. We really frown on politicians, especially women politicians being treated to similar attention though.
The Dope is not Penthouse forum, but your OP here would have been fine. *** All I really know about Crabbe was he was an Olympic Swimmer and one of the first Tarzans I believe. Johnny Weissmuller was the first famous one. I guess they liked swimmers for Tarzan. *** BTW: Weissmuller's Jane was Maureen O'Sullivan who is also Mia Farrow's mother. She was also classmates with Vivien Leigh. That is a lot of beauty for one class. Also good friends with fellow Irish born Actress Maureen O'Hara. Buster Crabbe was in a ton of stuff, mostly westerns and other low-budget programmers. He also managed the trifecta of playing Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, and Tarzan in different serials.
But if you're interested in beefcake, look for 1933's King of The Jungle, sometimes called The Lion Man, where he wears the skimpiest loincloth in motion picture history. I swear, it's virtually a thong. |

And the first movie Tarzan was Elmo Lincoln, who starred in a 1918 silent which was the first adaptation of the story. Some people like to be cute and claim child actor Gordon Griffith was actually the first Tarzan, though, because he played Tarzan as a child.
Enthralling, ain't I? |

That was actually one of the reasons his career stalled. MGM rejected him for the role of Tarzan because they thought he looked too much like a Gay fantasy. (He played the role elsewhere.) Hence, all the press pictures of him making out with women.
As far as I know, he was straight. But his appeal to Gays was a blessing and a curse. |

I'd like to point out that Burt was also an accomplished swimmer. He spent an entire movie doing just that.

Posting again in my thread rather than starting a new one.
This one isn't all that old. I was reading an article about a French movie actor who was famous for his beauty, and I had never heard of him before. So I Googled him, and boy did my eyes pop. His name is Alain Delon, and here's a link to him just walking through the fish market in Marseilles, from a movie called Purple Noon. |

I saw him in Le Samurai at an arthouse theater. Even with subtitles the movie blew me away. Maybe one of the best noir examples ever.

FYI/ICYDK, Purple Noon was the first film adaptation of The Talented Mr. Ripley and it is outstanding. (There was a TV version earlier on Studio One, about which I've not found much detail.)

Woo, found another one. I promise I don't go hunting for handsome actors. I just happened to see a movie right now, "Till The End of Time", and it stars one Guy Madison. I've never heard of him before now. Hubba Hubba.

I saw this movie listed on TCM last week, and remembering your opinion, I watched it. You're right, it's a brilliant movie. It must have inspired the Coen Bros. when they directed how the character Chigurh should behave.

This site ranks Jef Costello (Delon) and Chigurh at #2 and #5, respectively, as the coolest movie characters of all time. (Rounding out the other three: Jeff Lebowski, Lt Frank Bullitt, and The Man With No Name. I will agree with this.)
