I say without any sense of joy or schadenfreude that I believe the Hispanics who voted for Trump will be the first to have their faces (metaphorically) bitten off. Or if not there faces per se, to witness the faces of close friends and valuable members of their community bitten off in horrifying and unexpected ways. And I’m going to have to see it too, because I’m an immigration lawyer in a border community with a majority Hispanic population. Yes, the leopard will eat your face. And maybe mine too for even thinking about getting in the way. (Although, to be fair to my particular community, most did still vote for Harris in this particular county). |

When the second Hispanic/Latino friend gave me all the useful and insightful information, I responded to ' I am here legally, therefore I will be safe.' 'I am sufficiently assimilated, therefore I will be safe.' by sayijng that these sounded exactly like the reasoning of German Jews who falsely believed they would not end up in the camps. For a second, I was worried that I had misunderstood things and would make my friend angry. After a very short time, they responded by leaving a heart emoji on my comment.

I think Slate is right, because money.
It was shitty luck for Biden and Harris that the whole COVID economic fallout/ supply chain shortages/ massive inflation happened on their watch. The president will ALWAYS be blamed for hard times, and where Harris really lost the election is that she didn't have ready answers for how she'd turn things around. She said she wouldn't do anything different than Biden. That made people whose single issue fixation was the economy go Trump. They remembered that the economy was fine under him and they got like stimulus payments and shit, not realizing that he inherited the stable economy from Obama and he spent his term thinking of ways to fuck it over (another thing that landed on Bidens head) so he must have been doing it right, right?? Around here, a lotta elderly white people voted Trump. For lots of reasons, most stupid and bad, but the economy and taxes were the big one. What do elderly white people depend on? Medicare and social security. The minute anyone tries to fuck with their cash flow and medical care, is the moment that I believe that something will happen. It will always come down to money. |

Actually, it was because of COVID that Biden won with such large margin. It's possible any Democrat could've won, with donny's poor rating dragging down the GOP, but Biden was the least objectionable candidate over Bernie and Warren.

True enough, but everyone forgot about trump's shitful handling of the situation once the acute part of the pandemic was over and the economic damage became visible.

I don’t want to mention it as no one wants trumpy news, but it’s funny how paranoid he is now in thinking potential cabinet members are plotting to stop his America (trumpy) first agenda. Evil thinks as evil does.

Twenty four years ago I clipped this article from Wired magazine:
Why the Future Doesn't Need Us (Archive link) From a glance at the latest AI news, it appears we're right on schedule. I believe what we're seeing is the big push to take power from the general population that soon won't be necessary anymore. |

Wow. I am made to page 22 and will finish it tomorrow. I really don’t know what to think. What a ride the future will be.

Might I suggest that we add Elon Musk to the boycott too. He’s as hard to look at as the underside of hell.

What is wrong with Der Trihs on the Dope? I swear he's gonna implode. Czarcasm isn't much better.

People just keep trying to avoid having defend themselves by equating disagreeing with them aiding and abetting Trump and company with "oh, you treat every little disagreement as support of fascism". While carefully avoiding admitting that the thing being disagreed with is support for fascism. I'm not accusing them of that because they disagree about tax policy or nuclear power or whatever. It's all very disingenuous. EDIT: Also given that Beckdawrek started this conversation I'm pretty sure that it's in relation to their insistence on SD that we should try to win the Trumpists over with love, and that hatred is always wrong even towards Nazis. Der Trihs supports filming every sexual encounter on the sly, so that the woman can't turn around and accuse him of rape afterwards.
Just so everyone knows what they're arguing with here. (And I hate fucking Trump so much that I've been mentally rehearsing my reaction for when I hear the news of his death. And hoping it will be hastened.) |

You know, I actually remember that thread. I can’t remember to put the garden waste out on trash day, but I remembered that effing thread. I need an aspirin and a nap.

Thank you for that. I was wondering, "is it worth engaging with Der Trihs, or should I just ignore him?"

Yes, taking a picture of oneself together with a first date is exactly like secretly filming a sexual encounter!

I’m a prolific dater and it’s standard practice for a woman to keep a friend informed of who they are seeing and where they are going including a home address if they date men. Filming with a secret camera inside the home is fucking bonkers and not even in the same universe.

It's in case they don't return home on time. If they needed a rescue call they wouldn't have gone to the house after dinner. If the beginning of the date is bad, they would just get through a one hour meal and then bail. |

My upbringing, with respect to hitchhiking, was the poster child for cognitive dissonance. I was taught by my parents HELL NO NEVER PICK UP A HITCHHIKER THEY ARE DANGEROUS WILL KILL YOU. ...at the same time I had relaxed, easy-going friends who actually hitchhiked. People I would not want to ignore if I happened to drive by them. It was a conundrum. Which I mostly solved by leaving the US and sidestepping the issue. But now I'm back in "America," or sort of (Hawai'i Island) and I hate, hate, hate ignoring the occasional hitchhiker. Recently, on a back road, my husband and I picked up a whole family of hitchhikers, because ... I dunno. Compassion? Disbelief that they could possibly hurt us? It turned out great. We got a really interesting story from the hitchhikers (husband is a disabled vet; wife is sick and, following the doctor's appointment they had all gone to was having a lot of trouble walking home, kid is just a kid, money is tight, car is broken, they had to walk home, they were SO FUCKING GRAFETUL that we gave them a ride). |

I was driving from Tucson to Phoenix one time and I started seeing large, I mean 4 x 8 large, signs saying DO NOT PICK UP HITCHHIKERS. I was out in the middle of no where, desert all around me. Yet these signs…. Then several miles later I passed a sign that said something like ARIZONA STATE PRISON thataway ———->
I quickly understood the purpose of the signs. |

In 50 years, the United States will be a depopulated, ecologically collapsed radioactive wasteland ruled by scattered warlords and theocrats. With an all-white population after the genocide of everyone else.

It's 100% true and will be accomplished in the following way.
First, they will establish a Fascist theocracy and start the purge of much of the population, followed by genocidal war against the world (probably beginning with a nuclear bombardment of South America and Africa to kill as much of the population as possible), then a nuclear exchange ending in the probably permanent collapse of industrialized civilization. |
