Speaking of board bigots, I came across Bricker on Reddit recently in one of the law subs (I don't have a great interest in law but I enjoy the dumfux
posts on occasion.) I didn't check his history but he answered a question without being a dick, so maybe it wasn't him after all. There were some numbers after his username but I don't recall what they were. Thankfully Reddit is vast enough that I likely won't run into him again.

The funny thing is, by random chance I didn't run into Skald's rapey threads for a long time. I didn't know about them until he was pitted. But even before then, based on my limited encounters with his writing, I was absolutely certain he was an arrogant, self-centered asshole. The fact that so many Dopers fawned over him for so long still amazes me.

And the fact that he didn't get run off the board after the revelations in this thread (see Myrna's post #12) really hammers home the fact that while the SDMB has at times been a fun and interesting place, it's also been a safe space for rape obsessed freaks, exhibitionists, pedos (Cesario, and there were others), basically every creepy guy subset under the sun. Pretty disturbing to think about tbh

Reading some of those old threads -- I'd also say it's a lot better. I doubt that I'd have joined the board if I'd come across it in 2011 instead of 2019; and I think it's improved further since 2019.

I don't understand the need to control what people post or say so much. Illegal activity can lead to the board becoming culpable, I get that. Policing THAT behavior is basically about self-preservation.

But I can't understand always squelching general stuff that you and most people find gross and incomprehensible to your world view. Or even just banning those people outright.

What ever happened to leaving it up to the individual to block or ignore people that don't want to read what what those folks post?
