I think if McDonald's introduced the fast food version of hash browns today I would be offended and never try them. Fortunately they introduced them when I was still young and foolish enough to think "Yes, this is a perfectly reasonable thing to call hash browns" and thereby escaped a life of never having enjoyed McDonald's hash browns. I think I would still have had a fairly good life but I would always have had a nagging feeling that something was missing.
