Mid-Atlantic Raffer Meet

Okay, fine fine.

So we have a few folks sprinkled across the great state of Pennsylvania, some in New Jersey, some in Maryland, and some up around NYC/Long Island. I don't think we have anyone in Delaware.

Who all would be interested in doing a get-together, and about how far would you be willing to travel? Further, around what season at least?

At this point, I'm mainly just seeing if folks are interested. I'll note that I'm not a big planner, but we'll see what happens.

I predict that this meet is going to be very damp indeed.

I'll probably go as far as Philly or Northern Virginia. Spring or summer.

I'm unsure, it's bad enough I have pretend internet friends. If I meet them in real life, Ms. Soy might look at me funny.

If the timing was right, I would travel up towards Philly.

I got a theoretical go-ahead from my wife for Khampelf's swing through Philly (although the timing fell apart), so should be clear for a second attempt. If it'll help SPT, we can have Solfy call her up and explain.

I don't get out much. I'm a long shot, not that I wouldn't like to, but I'd either have to explain to Mr. Solfy that I'm leaving him with the kids for an extended period of time to go meet with "strangers", or I'd have to drag family along with me.

This was [del]much[del] slightly easier when all my virtual friends were all in the local calling area.

It would without a doubt have to be after April.

Oh yes, wives love to hear from strange women about how it's totally okay for their husbands to come hang out with them.

I just now got your post #2.

Much as I'd love to entice you over, there are no guarantees where Dave is concerned. Our best bet would be to trick him like the police sometimes do - tell him he's won free money or a boat and all he has to do is show up at the designated time and place to collect. I bet he'd fall for that.

I'm going to my HS reunion which is on May 1st in Fresh Meadows, NY.

I'm going to leave Atlanta, on April 28th or 29th and I'd love to meet some of youse guys for cawfee or whatevah. (gotta get back in form for a NY vacay).

I can probably take off a week or so, and I haven't made concrete plans. I have 2 children living in Delaware, so I'll be in that area too.

Anyone free during this period?

Okay, here's what I'm seeing so far:

Agent Foxtrot - As far as Philly or Northern Virginia. Spring or summer.
SoylentPopTart - If the timing was right, up towards Philly.
Solfy - A long shot, after April.
jali - DC to NYC corridor, between April 28th and May 1st.
Who_me? - NJ to VA, no time period.

We could try to shoot for sometime at end of April. I'd expect it to have to be a weekend, which would be May 1st, so I don't think we can fit jali in.

Solfy, if we pushed it out of the corridor west to northern MD or southern PA, would that make it easier for you? I don't know how far west we can go before we start having other people drop off.

UncleBill and I can go pretty much anywhere between NYC and DC. We might be moving the end of April/beginning of May, so weekends around that time will be iffy at best.

I don't know. . . I'll have to put out conversational feelers to see what the response is. I'm thinking if I can do it in a reasonable day trip, that'd be my best bet. (Mr. Solfy works nights on the weekends; he'd understand, but I'm not going to begin to try to explain it to either of the grandmothers, which would be required for an over-night)

Can I teleconference in?

You're fourish hours from Philadelphia, Solfy. If that sounds like you'd be willing to trek out and back in a day, I might currently lean towards that as the spot. Be honest about it, though, 'cause not everybody can pull that kind of drive.

If not, and you're able to talk your way into a day pass, we can look into consensus opinion on moving it west to maybe Lancaster (3ish hours) or maybe even Harrisburg (3 hours). Pushing it west of Harrisburg would probably get rough on NJ/NY folks.

Or just lie to a grandmother about it being for business and we'll get some hotel rooms in Philly.

ETA: Just so everybody understands, I'm currently trying to accomodate Solfy this much because she's the furthest out of the folks who has piped up. If other people who are far out have special issues/times/whatever, pipe up yourselves. If moving the time or place will make it hard for you to attend, pipe up. The more people we can arrange for it, the more fun everybody has.

Okay, updated:

Agent Foxtrot - As far as Philly or Northern Virginia. Spring or summer.
SoylentPopTart - If the timing was right, up towards Philly.
Solfy - A long shot, after April.
jali - DC to NYC corridor, between April 28th and May 1st.
Who_me? - NJ to VA, no time period.
Geobabe - Anywhere between NYC and DC, end of April/beginning of May might be bad.
I Ate Yellow Snow - Philly, Harrisburg, N. Va, DE, no times as yet.
Dudley - NoVA, DC, MD

At the moment, I'm starting to lean towards putting Baltimore (maybe the inner harbor area) forward as a meet spot. Should be spots to eat at or just wander around, and hotels if folks need to stay overnight. That seems like it could be a decent middle ground for everybody that's piped up so far. I think it would still be about 4 hours from Solfy, who is still the furthest out.

If anyone from points north wants to go but isn't sure about Baltimore, pipe up anyway.

My reunion date is May first. I can hang on the second, or maybe even up to the ninth.

Baltimore is convenient to Delaware and I love hanging at the harbor.

Agent Foxtrot - As far as Philly or Northern Virginia. Spring or summer.
SoylentPopTart - If the timing was right, up towards Philly.
Solfy - A long shot, after April.
jali - DC to NYC corridor, between April 28th and May 9th.
Who_me? - NJ to VA, no time period.

I Ate Yellow Snow - Philly, Harrisburg, N. Va, DE, no times as yet.
Dudley - NoVA, DC, MD. No timeframe.
Burnt Toast - Willing to consider it, no other info. Obviously very fussy.
krisolov - In Baltimore, might be arsed to show up.
InLucemEdita - NoVA, DC, MD, Baltimore, Philly. No timeframe.
Charles D. Allen - NoVA, DC, MD. Baltimore's good too. No timeframe.

At present I'm nudging us towards Baltimore on May 8th. Is this going to be difficult for anyone? Would anyone care to offer a time or place that would be better (or more fun or interesting)?

Also, if we do this in say Baltimore's inner harbor area, would anyone like to suggest specifics on times or places?

Note that if everyone on the list shows (including me and Geobabe's UncleBill) that's 14 people.

Ooh. Well, get her to register here first. She has 3-4 months to get a name for herself!

Ask her not to suck too badly, if she can help it. Kthxbai.

Kids could work. Depending on what folks wanted to do, while we were at the inner harbor, there's a lightship, a submarine, a lighthouse, an aquarium, a science center, I think a mini-mall... I wonder if that electric factory thing is still around...

The Inner Harbor is really neat, with lots of stuff to do and places to eat, but it is pricey. Last time I went there, the aquarium was something like $20 a person to get in.
The Torsk (the submarine) is really cool, as is the Constellation (the big boat).
Just letting you know.
And I'm not fussy! I think I could work this one in!

Should probably add myself here too. I'm lazy and don't want to travel too far; my range is probably from Baltimore in the north through Richmond in the south. The only weekends that are out at the moment are for anime conventions I'm going to: April 10/11 and July 31/Aug 1.

But I'm also an anti-social twerp, so if it happens somewhere/somewhen I can't make, you're not missing much.

The eighth is great. I can make my reunion, visit with my family for a few days and then leave from B'more to come back to Georgia.

I'll probably stay in Baltimore overnight and fly home on the ninth.

I'm looking forward to this!

I've already started saving.
