I am largely beyond Roo sniping at me while I have to guess at which posts are snipery and which are meant to be constructive. It used to annoy me, but now it's like the same old yap dog yapping at me as I walk past its yard.

I noted on Mellophant at the time that the two times I was disconnected coincided with two times that I was arguing with you. I jokingly wrote, "coincidence?" I don't recall if we were butting heads at the time of your "connection problems" but if that is the case do find it a "coincidence" you were having "connection problems" at that time.

During this time did you ever contact your ISP to see if they were having any routing issues to my server? Are you sure it wasn't a DNS issue on your end?

There are at least 50 connection points from your computer to my server. All of these must work. In those 50 connection points, depending on the path, there are at least 4 people involved in routing those connection from point A to point B. That is a lot of little points of failure. Half of network admin is fixing these points of failure.

I'm sure you enjoy flattering yourself, implying you are important enough to me to make me want to disrupt your connection, but you aren't. I have no problem butting heads with people I don't care for. Why would I take that entertainment away from myself?

The only time I've interfered with your regular posting ability is when you decided to abuse the system we have in place which helps the administration run the messageboard.

Even then, I only stuffed you in the box for a few hours. I released you from the box later that night after I was pretty sure you calmed the fuck down or went to bed.

Actually, the board was having connectivity issues at the time. You had asked us all to report it to help you figure out WTH was going on. It turned out to be that construction they were doing in the road outside your office.

The biggest problem was the fiber run we use to transport our data about 7 blocks away to the Shaw backbone. The company transporting our data was having issues routing it. Once it got on to Shaw there were other routing issues there. We got the Shaw issue cleared up but the data haul issue remained for quite some time. This is the one of the problems with the bad latency - or even timeouts - if you reached my server via the Shaw connection. Most people on the West Coast used our Shaw peering.

This will actually crop up again I fear. Another company bought out the fiber run and fixed our problem BUT they are dismantling the fiber itself. We need to find another connection. There are no easy connections on our block downtown. Anything we connect will be a brand new run to the building. This takes time and is often costly.

Shaw is working on dropping a run but they estimate it will be 3+ months before they can light it.

Until then we are looking for a solution to give us redundancy in case our GT connection ever fails (which it never has but we don't want to go dark for any length of time).

This temporary connection will most likely be slower. We will need to fire it up to test it - which will slow the board during this time. This test shouldn't be long. BUT, when it goes on-line other routers will pick up the path. They will start dumping traffic to it. When we take it off-line the routers will still attempt to dump to it until they pick up the new path.

It may have been. I called my ISP to see if there were outages in my area, but that didn't really make sense since everything else worked. Perhaps I'll know the questions to ask if there is a next time.

Just to reiterate from the other thread, I didn't intend to abuse the reporting system.

Since there seems to be some misunderstanding of private communications, if I get disconnected again, I'll start a thread in Getting Started and ask any mod who reads it to flag it to your attention.
