Police line-ups.
I was once in one, as a control guy I will point out, long ago.
Do they do live line-ups anymore? Has anyone else been in one? Any questions? |

Were you fingered?

How did you get selected for the line-up?

I was at the public library and some guy strolled past my aisle, did a double take and walked up with his badge out.
He asked me if I would be in a line-up of guys who kinda look the same. Initial reaction was hell no. What if the victim/witness picked me? |

When I was at Uni the local police station did line-ups, and would pay you £10 to sit in. We were students and £10 was £10, so we all filled in the form describing our physical appearance. Those of us who were tall and male got called up a few times - I did it twice.
We sat in a room with a two-way (should that be one-way?) mirror on one wall, and stared at our own reflections while the witness, behind it, fingered the perp. It was pretty hard not to burst out laughing, for some reason. Put a bunch of 20-year-olds in a room and tell them to act serious - well, they'll find it hard not to laugh. |

For you was there an obvious suspect? not necessarily beady eyes etc. but one you though to yourself, 'I'm betting it's HIM.'

I didn't get paid! damn it.
The victims came into the same room with us but couldn't say anything about us. Yeah we knew who they were after. He was the guy already wearing bright orange coveralls. |

When we did it, we knew who the suspect was, because we were all in a friendly "hello chaps, what we want you to do is sit here and look at the mirror" environment, and then a 10th person turned up with some lawyers who instructed him on where to sit (and sometimes asked that we be moved around a bit).
Also, he didn't get paid. |

It was kinda cool to do. But one of the few cop shows I watch is the First 48, and they just show 6 computer pictures of people wiith the suspect as one of them.
I may be one of a dying triviality. |

Apparently that's what happened with the movie "The Usual Suspects". The lineup scene was originally scripted as being serious, but the actors kept cracking up and screwing around. So they just went with it.

I suggest "one of a dying triviality" as your custom title. What a well-turned phrase!

And with all the fun titles they will go away.
Some body should archive them. I would but have no attention span and a phone. |
