RIP Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor has died.

Goodbye, Velvet. The violet eyes to die for have closed forever.

And by most accounts, a genuinely nice woman. I don't remember ever hearing about her having a "star" attitude.

Oddities of the newspaper business: Have you ever heard that newspapers write and keep obits of celebrities on-file so they don't have to scramble to get one written when the celeb in question actually croaks? Today you can see verifiable proof of this.

Mel Gussow, longtime theater critic for the New York Times, wrote the Times's obit for Taylor. Mel Gussow has been dead for six years.

And some of the news anchors are just inadequate, IMO. I never watch morning TV, but today I had to flat-iron my hair, so I turned it on. I flipped through the cable channels, so I have no idea who I was watching, but she was clearly too young to have know who Taylor was (in her time). Not only did this morning chippie stumble through her tele-prompter stuff, she was so facile as to be offensive (and I'm not a huge Taylor fan). She did the voice-over while some film clips played and said, "It's fun to see these clips of old shows and movies."

Um, yeah. You do realize an icon died today, yes, you empty headed mouthpiece?

She was truly beautiful. She is the exact same age as my mother, but congestive heart failure is a nasty way to die.

That is hilarious, Supes!

The private service was set to begin at 2:00 but, reports CBS News National Correspondent Ben Tracy, the ever-dramatic actress left specific instructions that it begin 15 minutes later than scheduled because she "even wanted to be late for her own funeral."
Now that's class!
