Saturdays are wonderful, aren't they?!

I finally have a window installation date in two weeks. Yay! It's only supposed to take two days to do the whole house. A third day if they hit problems.

Getting a bunch of paint samples today to continue my quest for the Color I Can't Find. I think I'll be pleased with something in this next batch though. Or at least I've decided I will be making a selection from the options at hand once I get this batch.

Now I'm wondering if I want molding between the wall/ceiling. I think I'm going to wait and do that another time if I think I want it, though. Won't really know until I see the room all finished out if it would add interest or overwhelm.

It just occurred to me that I have lots of bills due in October. I think it's a good thing I won't be having the siding fixed or the house painted until next summer! Was originally planning to do that as part of this project.

I have a cold. I knew it was only a matter of time, but I'm still mad. However, I don't know if it's because I have less surface area back there, but my throat doesn't hurt as much as I would have expected. I'm mostly just snorting phlegm (you're welcome) and kind of dazed.

Hooray for new windows, Falcon! You're going to be so happy with them.

Colds suck. I am taking extra Vitamin C in the hopes that I will be spared. What with #2 son bringing germs home from middle school, the residents at the Library with their stuff and working with sick people, I'm a bit paranoid about the whole thing. I really can't afford to be sick and colds are the worst: you're not sick enough to stay home, yet you're miserable nonetheless. Get better soon. Here's some hot tea. [slides piping hot Earl Grey through the whatever it's called]

I awoke at 0630 to let the cat out. I returned to bed for a few minutes and got up at 0950. I am hitting the ground running this morning-groceries, plant a small tree, garden, CLEAN THIS HOUSE. The rain is holding off, so cleaning out the garage can wait til tomorrow. Happy Saturday!

I'm glad the windows are finally going in, Falcon.

I've paid a bill, cruised the 'net, and am nearly done with my second giant mug of coffee.

I Skyped with my son, one of his roommates and some of his friends for a bit last night. It was fun, but our connection was really sucking for some reason, so we finally said out good-byes.

He's got to work on a mid-term essay that's due on Friday. Mid-terms already? They're on a semester system over there and the semester doesn't end until December.

Hubby is still in bed and if he doesn't get downstairs soon, I'll finish the whole pot of coffee.

My daughter and her sweetie will be coming down soon, so I should shower and clean up. I think I'll enjoy a few more minutes of peace and quiet though.

I have to go downtown today, and one of my stops will be at some place that has mugs. I bought tea the other day but neglected the fact that I don't own anything except little glass tumblers and big plastic cups. Hmph. I have been drinking lemonade, so my vitamin C intake is upped a bit.

Well, I'm off to help a buddy put a new roof on his shop. Wish me luck, I'm supposedly the agile one. I'm already late and it's a 3 hour drive - if I'm lucky. See ya in a couple days! The stuff I do for my friends...

He'd better feed you well, Jag!

How in the heck did it get to be 11:15 already? I'm just now dressed and am heating up lunch. There's no way I'm making it to Home Depot for paint samples, though, as I have to be on the other side of town at 1 for an appointment. OK, technically I could do it, but it's Saturday, darn it, and I refuse to be rushed.

Sigh. This day is getting eaten up rather quickly for my tastes. At least it's sunny out. That's nice.

I think I'll play with fractal art until it's time to leave.

Eury, I'm sorry you're sick. I hope you get yourself a mug that you really, really like. I truly think this is important! I have a special, big mug that I love, with just the right thickness . And it's the mug that I use when I make hot chocolate, or yummy herbal tea on a cold winter's night... or when I'm sick. And I think you need one, too, with a colour or pattern you love.

A 591 mler would be just the thing!

I thought my Saturday would be spent helping my daughter and her family move, but it turns out that they've already got tons of help for today. So, I'll wait until tomorrow, when I can be of more use. I saw their new house for the first time last night, and it's lovely! I'm envious of their greenhouse (surrounded right now by lovely sunflowers), and I love their big, big kitchen. I can see myself hanging out there a lot, and hey... maybe Thanksgiving and Christmas family meals might be cooked somewhere else once in a while! (I love being hostess, but I'll admit that I've looked forward to sharing that role on some sort of rotational basis.) Oh, and their neighbours on one side have chickens and geese! Ha! I laughed out loud when the geese started honking at us last night while we were out in the garden.

That sounds like the perfect house, Peeking! Very cozy and inviting.

I really wish I could have chickens here. I'd love fresh eggs and some occasional meat. (If I could manage to slaughter one. I have a feeling I'd get rather attached and find it impossible when there are unknown chickens at the grocery store).

I know what you mean about getting attached, Falcon. I had chickens for about a year, when my kids were fairly young. We had only four, and sometimes we'd bring them into the house and let them sit on our laps while we watched TV. They were always perfectly behaved, and they loved being petted.

Speaking of slaughtering chickens, when my daughter met the chicken-owning neighbour for the first time yesterday, he was very warm and welcoming, and he said they (my daughter's family) would have to come over to visit some time. Any time. But then he went on to warn her that, on that particular day, they'd be "taking care of some chickens whose time [had] come". Heh. He was a little worried that my grandsons (eleven and nine) would casually stroll over only to find a massacre in full swing.

Where I live (only about two miles from my daughter; yay!), we can often hear a nearby rooster. I love hearing his cheerful crowing.

Thanks for the sympathy, Ducky. I'll be questing for the perfect mug for awhile, but right now I got two mugs that will do in the interim. Like an idiot, I left the perfect mug I already owned (at least twice the volume of a regular mug, it had a pleasing shape and was a pretty colour blue) back in Halifax for reasons I can't remember. Oh well, the new mugs look nice in my kitchen and I can keep them for company when I find another perfect mug.

Now I really want chickens! Maybe I can tell the city they're pomeranians or something, since they'll sit in your lap. And the sheep I want can be a standard poodle. And the goat...well, who says I can't have a kid?!

I have a zoo membership, and love visiting the goats. OK, so technically, they're there for the kids to pet. But goats are irresistably sweet, and one snuggled up to me, so it was clearly in need of attention.

Ah well. At least I can grow veggies, and the metro area is becoming more tolerant of native wildflowers. I have a side garden so loaded with bees at the moment that I had to come in the back yard when I got back from my oil change and shopping!

Sounds like you live in a nice area. I'm glad your daughter is nearby.

I have done so much today! Groceries bought, split and bagged and frozen, tree transplanted, new transplants watered, and #2 son and I got out the Big Ass Ladder and trimmed back the magnolia tree that has been rubbing on the porch roof. That led to other yard jobs, and I am beat, but dayum it's good to get that off The List!

Potatoes in the oven for baked potato topping + kielbasa night here. The supposed thunder-storms + hail (!) they promised us has not occurred. Clear blue sky outside and cool. Lovely yardwork weather.

We are supposed to clean out the garage tomorrow, but I think I may shelve that until next weekend when TH is here, since most of the crap is his. Plus I need to do some housework and I don't see doing the garage, housework AND art tomorrow. And I must do some Art. It's been 2 weeks.

You must definitely do some art!

I took my colored pencil drawing to the car dealership with me and worked on it while they worked on my car. Hadn't touched it in a couple of weeks either.

Just painted sample boards with the three whites I brought home. Am pretty sure I've now got exactly what I want. Won't know for sure until tomorrow when it's dry and I can bring it in, but at the very least, I think I can live with it. I suspect it's actually what I envisioned, however. Yay!

You might want to check city ordinances to make sure that hens aren't allowed--around here you just can't keep roosters. And indeed, who would want the loud ass beasts? They might sound cheerful from a half mile away, but when they're 50 feet from your open bedroom window and there are THREE of them it gets rather horrifying. I may yet stock in some laying hens because I sure do love me some fresh aigs.

Man, it's amazing how much faster the workday goes when you start early. This rocks--and it was deader'n a doornail this morning so I got some reading done to boot. I'm very pleased with the results of shift bid--aside from having training for three days next week, one of which is supposed to be my day off. Yeah, I get Saturday off but I wanted my two days in a row, dammit! Grump...

I need comfort food for dinner, I'm thinking of mac & white cheddar with turkey and veg thrown in then baked with MOAR CHEEZ on top. Doesn't get much more comforting than that unless bacon is involved.

Meal must include ice cream or does not qualify as comfort food. It's all in the book.

Just watched Fellowship of the Ring (EE). That felt good. Haven't seen it in months. Had a fire earlier with #2 son--we ate outside. Also talked to my sister briefly and sent her some stuff she had asked for. We haven't been friends for a very long time, but I think we're both realizing that with parents up near 80 and above, 2 sisters gone already, it's time we appreciated one another. She was the one who broke things off, but I let it happen and did nothing to mend it. So, we both are trying now. It's nice, but feels weird. She'll never be as close to me as my one sister--that's a loss I'll never "get over".

There is melancholy music playing over the end credits of the film and it's making me a bit maudlin. Also am tired--that tree trimming kicked my butt today. I fell (not off the ladder, off the porch). I fell INTO a bush (a large one) and hurt nothing but my pride. #2 son was laughing his ass off, because the bush made me fall in slow motion-I ended up flat on my back INSIDE the bush. He said he was laughing so hard because he was watching my feet and legs descend into the verge. I was laughing like a loon as well--it would have made a great video! But that and the tree trimming and the tree planting etc has made me a tired Rigby. Off to bed soon. Tomorrow is housework! (and art).

Good morning everyone. I've been enjoying a little quiet for the last three hours, but my husband is finally up and things just got noisy.

I had a nice visit with my daughter yesterday and I got to cheer her up a little. Her sweetie has been grumpy lately and taking out some of his work stress on her. I noticed something was up when they both walked in the door yesterday. So, when I had go out to run some errands I asked my daughter to come along with me and she told me what was going on.

We talked about it and how to handle the situation and while at Tar-Jay, I bought her a sweater that she liked to cheer her up a little. Money has been tight for them, so it was just a little something.

After that, we went grocery shopping and then came back home. I colored her hair and it turned out nicely. I fed them dinner and by the time they left they were back to their usual selves.

It's raining here today, so it'll be indoor activities. That's okay, I have stuff that needs doing inside the house anyway.

The weekend has just flown by, hasn't it?

Yup, the weekend is really flying by here, too, taters. I'm glad you had a nice day with your daughter yesterday, and I'm glad you were able to relieve a bit of stress for her and her sweetie.

Rigs, you've lost two sisters? Oh my goodness. I'm so sorry. I commend you for trying to appreciate the sister who once broke things off with you. I can relate, at least a little. Me and my brother (my only sibling) were never close growing up. He was six years older than me, and we truly hardly ever saw each other (partly because he was a popular and gregarious kid and was always out with his friends). As adults, our parents -- no, our mother -- fostered a rift between us (for reasons I won't get into), so we still had reasons for not being close. Once our second parent died, I thought we'd lose touch with each other completely, but my brother has made an effort to write to me once in a while. I appreciate it, and I reciprocate. It probably doesn't mean as much to me as it should, but it's still a nice thing.

I'm very fortunate in that all of my siblings and I get along famously. All the spouses too, so that rocks.

Weekend has indeed flown by - for once, I've gotten some things done! Completed a spillway analysis, scrubbed the kitchen in preparation for hosting Bunco, now working on exhibits for expert testimony in a court case, water aerobics in an hour and then I get to calculate my personal worth for recertifying as a DBE with the DOT. And laundry.

IMO, any connection is a good one.

I'm tired now-the master bath is clean (always a bitch to clean. I love the white tile, but damn!), the downstairs is vacuumed and I have decided what's for dinner (roast beef and popovers and some kind of veggie. I never put what I'm making for veggies because they don't thrill me). I also went out and bought a plant from #1 son's GF's parent's nursery because I feel so bad for them-they will likely lose their 20 year business due to the economy. They're not sure they can stay open for Christmas trees. So I came home and planted it and now it's raining.

I have also managed to lose $40 which truly pisses me off. It was in my jean's pocket and now it isn't. It isn't in my purse, my fleece vest, my car or my dresser. I hate when I lose stuff.

rigs, do your jeans have one of those little front pockets? Sometimes, I fold up a bill so it's small and stick it in there, or it gets shoved down in the bottom most corner of the regular pocket. Also, did you check your back pockets?

My mother has called my cell phone twice and left messages. She wants to pony on to the care package I'm sending my son. While I appreciate the thought, I already told her no last weekend. As it is, the package I'm sending will be spendy enough. My son wants me to send his subwoofer and speakers for his computer. Between those, the food, and a couple of other items, I'm looking at a pretty big bill.

My mother; she drives me nuts. I told her no three times last weekend. Her last message was that she could come out and go shopping with me. Never, never, never. I hate shopping with my mother.

Although the rain has stopped and the ground is drying out, there is a rather cool wind blowing here today.

I've cleaned my kitchen and have a load of laundry going.

Yes, I checked. I am sick about it. It's not the end of the world, but really, I can't afford to lose $40 (who can?).

The last memory I have of it is putting it in my jeans' pocket-I always put money in the same pocket. I was going to buy gas, but didn't (I pay cash for gas now); instead, I went straight home after dropping some library books off. I got out of the car to do that, so perhaps it fell out of my pocket then? I hate low rider jeans (which these were) because I have caught my money almost out of my pocket before. That was on Friday but I didn't notice until today when I went to get gas and realized I couldn't account for that $40.

Oh, well. Off to make cookies. No offense, but your mother would bug me, too! (for that, I mean).

This weekend is going way too fast, and I've gotten too little done. I do have a final paint selection for the guest room, thank goodness. Now I need to pick a color for the guest room dresser. And I'm starting to hesitate on my color choice for the house. Please shoot me now.

At least there is no urgency on those selections. The room color had to be picked in the next couple of weeks.

Making chicken and dumplings for lunches this week, and pizza for dinners. Bought a bunch of seasonings at the grocery store. Including Thai seasonings and rice noodles. I've really been wanting Thai lately!

Rigs, maybe the money fell out of the pocket when you were in the car and it's between the seats. Or maybe you were worried about the money falling out of the pocket, so you put it in a jacket pocket, which you wouldn't normally do, except you were in your low riser jeans and didn't want the money to fall out of your pocket.

I hate losing money, and yeah, $40 is significant enough to miss. I hope it turns up somewhere!

Believe me rigs, no offense is taken. My mother means well, but she just drives people nuts.

Well, the rain is back. Second load of laundry is going and now I need to tackle some folding. I hate folding and putting away laundry. When my husband does laundry, he moves the finished laundry to my daughter's old bedroom and then the pile just grows. So, it's driving me crazy, and I'll tackle folding, ironing and putting it away.

I think I'm going to have to tell my son that he's just going to have to wait for the speakers. The subwoofer is damn heavy and I really don't want to have spend $100.00 for shipping.

I'm sorry you can't find your money, rigs. I hope it does turn up.

I also hope Wolf is okay. It's not like him to miss days, and I don't recall him saying anything about going anywhere.

I'm guessing he's fine and is off somewhere, but chose not to mention online that he'd be gone. That seems like a very Wolf thing to do. I expect he'll be back soon with tales of adventure. It's too soon to start worrying!

You're right, he's pretty private about his RL. I'm sure he's fine too, but I'm just used to seeing him around the boards.

Yeah, I miss him too. So he'd better be fine!

I don't feel like cooking. Maybe I'll make spaghetti rather than pizza for dinners this week. It's the same ingredients...just noodles rather than crust, after all!

And isn't chicken and dumplings just chicken soup with some thickener and bicuit dough thrown in? I can handle that. The chicken is cooked, at least.

Bleh.

I'm having some smoked pork tenderloin roast and leftover tortellinis and alfredo.

When my daughter and her sweetie came down; he smoked up a bunch of brats along with two pork tenderloins. He wanted to leave us a whole one, but just took a half and told him to take the rest. That half should easily get us through two, maybe more meals. (They were big roasts).

I've got a bunch of clothes folded and put away, and another load of laundry going.

I'm kind of bored and restless. I want to do something, but I don't want to have to leave and let's face it; housework is boooorring.

Oh, that sounds yummy!

Yeah, housework is definitely boring. I endeavour to do the minimum that keeps me happy. I keep the bathroom/kitchen clean for obvious reasons. And clean sheets/towels/clothes. But when it comes to the rest of it...meh. It gets done when it gets done, and often not at all. Definitely not on a weekly basis. There are not enough hours in the week, especially when there's outside stuff needing doing.

There's a bit more clutter at the moment than I'd like, but that's partly because of having to move stuff out of the way for the window folks. I'm taking a week off next month to do window treatments and will get some more picking up done then.

I have decided I need to have a garage sale next year, though! I need fewer belongings.

How much do I love getting home at a reasonable hour? A LOT, that's how much! Nice boring low key day at work, training for the next three days, woo.

I made a mac/cheese casserole yesterday, with turkey and veggies and five kinds of cheese in--it was very good and now I have plenty of leftovers for when I get hungry which should be soon. I love leftovers.

Let the record show that everyone's kitchen and laundry have been done today. Ta-dah!

I still have one bathroom to clean, but the ironing is all done for the next 2 weeks. Dinner is in the oven.

Doubt it fell out in the car, but I'll check. I have done laundry this weekend, but I did my clothes first thing Friday morning, so no go on the washer. I already checked my jacket, but I had a turtleneck and a sweater on that day sans coat. I'm trying not to dwell on it--not very successfully mostly because I was going to treat us to local pizza tonight, but with that gone, I'm not.

I hate being poor.

(yeah, I know there are poorer people out there. I still hate being even this poor).

Do NOT change paint colors! It's like changing your answers on the SAT test. Bound to make difficulties.

I'm kinda grumpy because Sunday is winding down and my fun is at an end. I am such a child at times. Plus, my tooth hurts, bad. It's the one next to the one that had root canal last spring. My sinuses are a bit wonky today so I'm hoping it's sinus pressure and NOT a tooth problem. I still have to pay a $391 bill for Daughter and #1 son's work in August (dentist).

On the plus side, I DID do a picture. I picked a pic of me and tried to do it in pastels. There's a LOT wrong with it, but it's not horrible. I was just glad to play with pastels again. I need to start on the flatirons for #1 son (Xmas present), but I want to do at least one more thumb-nail sketch first. And I may do an hour's worth of dadwork tonight. If I don't, it's just one more hour I have to do later on...

Amen to that!

Chicken and dumplings: Cooked, placed into lunch containers, and cooling in the fridge. It helped to realize I was just making chicken soup and tossing in corn starch and biscuit mix. Except I overdid the biscuit mix a bit and I basically have dumplings for lunch, with some bits of meat and veggie to go with them.

Breakfasts: In their individual containers for the week and in the refrigerator.

Dinner: There is a pizza in the oven. Or is it bread with pizza toppings? I got a bit carried away with the crust. I like to put oats in it, and I didn't bother to measure anything. So it's like a deep dish crust on steriods. Bread, really. And then I tossed some stuff on it and popped it in the oven.

Dinner will be in 20 minutes!

Then the kitchen will need cleaning again.

I just saw your post, Rigs. If you lived closer, I'd have you over to share my pizza. Of course, since I have to stay dairy-free, there's no cheese on it. But it's free!

Having to think about where your money goes does suck. I'm sorry that $40 disappeared.

Yeah, I should probably ignore my doubts about the house color and leave well enough alone. I'm already starting to have a quandry about the family room color, and who knows when I'll even be able to do anything with the family room? It could be years!

Apparently, color selection does not sit well with me. It's not a problem with my art, but I don't have to live with an art piece for the next 20 to 30 years. I'm glad you got some pastel time in!

Eh, just worked up a time sheet on excel to track my hours. Excel doesn't like or my Mac-not sure which (or both). It'll work, but it's not pretty. I managed to while away almost an hour doing it*. Only 9 more to go.

*Never used Excel before. Software is not intuitive for me-software is usually learned by me via anger, frustration, yelling at me, then computer, then near tears. Sad to say, but true. I hate software except that it makes so much of my life better. Needs must when the devil drives.

Sorry about your missing money, rigs. I hate when that happens!

My friend was feeling low so she came over and hung out for a few hours. We mostly just talked, but I also trimmed her bangs and painted my own nails. They look nice, I did a white background with green apples and red polka dots on my thumbs, and red French tips on the rest. They make me happy. I also baked some cookies to take to class tomorrow. Now I am procrastinating when I really should be doing some reading, but my nails are wet!

It's been proven that you cannot read when your nails are wet. True fact.

Am watching the Return of the King now. I should be watching Downton Abbey, but wasn't in the mood for Edwardian drama--I want fantasy escapism tonight.

Emptied the dishwasher and laid out clothes for the morrow. Also flatironed my hair (which isn't really doing it-I think my flatiron is dying. But also my top hair is so short that it's hard to get a handle on it to flatten it. Mostly I'm just trying to tame the mane). I really hate my new cut and am just waiting for it to grow out. I'd go back, but all she could do is cut MORE off to shape it and I'd rather just let it grow. I wish I could pull it back, but I can't. No, not gonna post pics.

I was just going to ask if you'd noticed the new season of Downton Abbey is begun--guess you did!

I really do want to see it, but I started this and want to finish it. I'm hoping I can get caught up on it and start next week. I don't mind waiting a week (like old time TV!) for each installment. It's kinda more fun that way.

Got the roof on. We finished the last nails shortly before sundown, just as the first big fat raindrops started. It was as close to hot and muggy as it gets around here but otherwise a nice day. I guess we're all over the hill together because those guys had me running to keep up. We had to replace about half the sheathing and one rafter. Then one guy hauled roofing while the other two rolled, cut, and nailed.

Early on I took command of the tar bucket. All day I was careful to keep all the tar under the shingles. But on the last couple strips of roofing I had to scramble up and lay over the peak. By the time the thugs got done slopping the tar around none of us got away clean. I had to put my boots and clothes in a plastic bag before they went in the truck. At least we got the roof done.

To make matters even more scandalous, I brought fixins for bacon wrapped cheddar and onion stuffed jalapeno poppers. But we were on the roof so late that we didn't have time to fire up the BBQ. Poor form.

Then I dragged some beer and burritos over to my other buddy's place and did some gaming and bragged about vacation pictures. Passed out on his recliner in the middle of the night amid the shrapnel. Breakfast was black coffee with a shot of 25 year old Scotch. But after I shoved off, I went by the burrito wagon for a proper breakfast. Then I stopped by kid bro's place to admire his rearranged shop. Now I'm getting ready to pass out on my mom's couch. If it's not raining too bad tomorrow I'll move a couple tons of bark for her. Otherwise it will have to wait a week or two. I don't mind payback work but not in the rain.

I even got to watch most of a football game. Can't think o nothin to complain about at the moment.

Man, this house smells like dog fart right now, GROSS! Bear has the Ass O'Doom and it's in fine form today.

I found a new Crystal Light flavor totally by accident--I usually get the peach/mango green tea stuff but they have a new one that's just peach/mango, no tea but it does have caffeine in it and it tastes delicious. It's only in them itty bitty tubes though, not yet in the half gallon making pouches yet. They ridiculously overpackage all their shit, sure wish they'd just get an option for job lots of it in a cardboard box but NOOOOOOO, it's gotta have this uselessly large plastic tub with more plastic wrapping up the packages inside. Stoopid overpackaging!

Good morning, everyone. When I got to school, one of the admin assistants came down and told us our teacher was out sick so class was canceled. Lots of people were finishing up an assignment that I had done already, so I just finished the reading for class this afternoon and came home. Not before passing out my cookies, which everyone liked. Hooray.

Now that I'm home, I just spent a million years on hold with Bell Aliant trying to get my internet bill to show up on my online Bell profile. Apparently that's impossible, since Bell and Bell Aliant are different things. Wat. Bell provides mobility for the whole country, but internet, phone and TV are provided by Bell Aliant in the Maritimes. I needed a totally separate account on a different website. So I got that set up and paid that bill, and things are good. I'm a bit pissed I can't see all of my Bell whatever services in one place, but at least I can pay it online.

Sounds like you had a good weekend, Jag. If you still have those stuffed jalapeno fixin's, I can take them off your hands...
