What do you do when your socks get old and useless?

Here are some great ideas for using those old socks in new ways. Some of the ideas include using them to play tug-of-war with your dog, using them as dusters, putting rice in them and using them as heat packs for sore muscles and putting soap in them to use as wash rags.

I generally keep them on hand to pull out at opportune times.

My old socks go in a bucket, and get used as fishing socks/shop rags, as the need arises.

I use them for polishing shoes and then throw them away.

I don't recommend turning them into dog toys though. You can hardly expect the dog to know WHICH sock it's ok to chew up.
