Oh dear. The tag-team of monstro and you with the face are after me because I think that the woman who employed Soyuc (the mail bomber) and treated him like a human was remarkably generous of spirit, considering he thought she was an abomination as a lesbian but she didn't fire him because he never behaved anything less than professional while on her clock.
The argument (and I certainly understand that most others will disagree with me) bugs me less than the predictability of the sisters' posts backing each other up. Do these two ever post separately when things get heated, or are they conjoined twins? Normally I enjoy their posts (esp. monstro's since she brings a unique lifestyle POV) but I sure do get sick of having one show up right to back the other, regular as clockwork. It's like having a sockpuppet except on someone else's hand, so to speak. I'm close to my sister but fuck me, if mine showed up in every thread to make sure I had a doppelganger/cheerleader, I'd tell her to shove off and let me fight my own battles. Oops almost forgot the link. |

That was a smart move on Zotti's part; in this thread, DrDeth shows that he doesn't understand that the whole point of money laundering is to launder money (he seems to think that it has something to do with avoiding taxes). |

Maybe he really does have an electric fence and is exaggerating its effects. But I think the rest of that story is bullshit. Maybe he brushed against the fence one day, and while rubbing the sore spot on his arm he fantasized about using the fence to mess with his friends. When you've got adoring fans telling you what a gifted storyteller you are and pushing you to produce more, you get sloppy and start fudging the details. The same thing applies to his "cow in the pool" post. He bought a pool cover, noticed that it was marketed as strong enough to support an elephant, and came up with the story. Even Scylla isn't stupid enough to claim that there are elephants wandering around his neighborhood, so he went with a cow instead. (The pool cover makes an encore appearance in his Vacuum Blimp thread; he's very proud of that thing.) |

![]() edit - Found some DrDumbass retro snark: This thread about a case from a few years ago where the a kid (not an actual minor) got thrown into a holding cell by the DEA and forgotten for five days, so he went without food, water, or human contact and had to resort to drinking his own piss. He was not charged with a crime. Most posters are outraged, DrDeth isn't so much, and tries to school everyone on what really happened. Miller and Larry Borgia both give him a nice smackdown. I'm only on page 2 of the thread, too. ![]() edit again: I just realized after writing that all out that DrDeth is basically trying to be Shodan but isn't quite up to the task, intellectually. Jesus, the thread is full of assholes cracking jokes about how this guy nearly died of thirst from neglect, all because it serves him right he.... brace yourselves kids, this gets rough...
Link to the story from the OP is dead. I wonder what came of all this? Edit: I did find it. But I still wonder about people who's immediate reaction is to show their wit. What a bunch of empathy-challenged assholes. |

Stranger On A Train suspended for noting that Quartz is a dumbass, Chessic Sense is a disingeneous fuckwit, Watchwolf49 has an inability to state a coherent thought or use sensible punctuation, Doorhinge's many faults, and the eternal question of whether Bricker is an insufferable pococurante or a contriving troll.

I don't remember ever noticing that person, so no comment on that. I just wanted to note that if I had a beef with a person called Kimmy_Gibler, I would probably be referring to them as Kum_Gobbler. That is all.

Goddamnit, the SDMB's intelligence pool just got a little shallower. Stranger may be easy to stir to a boil, but he's one of the most reliably interesting and informative posters over there. Can't help noticing that all the folks mentioned above almost certainly deserved whatever they got, too. Hope he makes it back and stays this time. Also to the earlier discussion--yeah, Kimmy_Gibler was an absolute shithead in that thread (and elsewhere). The only time I remember some decent posts from him was during the Stoid "I totally wasn't asking for legal advice, I just wanted you lawyers to tell me what to do!" kerfuffle. |

Yeah, they're literal sisters. monstro is the more interesting of the two and contributes a lot, with an interesting perspective on life (plus she's the funnier sister). I can't remember anything you with the face has contributed aside from backing up monstro and/or jumping in on some race-related thread. (Usually on the same side I'd be on, to be honest, so it's not like I'm pissed off at her for being a political opponent. It's the tag-team element that gets wearisome.)
As for Stranger on the Train, I think we're all shorter-fused these days. But boy I hope he doesn't lose it completely. His (literal) rocket science brain is a tremendous asset in GQ threads, among others. It's always fun to see some newbie try to patronize him going toe-to-toe in some science or physics topic, when he doesn't realize what Stranger does for a living. BTW, genuinely surprised that Chessic Sense is still around. For some reason I always associate him/her with Carol Stream and thought he was a sock of the latter. |

Stranger is awesome and I hope he sticks around after the suspension is done. The Dope moderation really ought to consider the value of a poster to the board before issuing serious punishments. I'd gladly trade a bit of unfairness in applying the rules (and I'm only talking about message boards, not anything else or society in general) in exchange for ensuring brilliant but occasionally hot-headed contributors like Stranger stick around. The board would be harmed far more by his loss than any slight unfairness in easing up on punishing him, IMO.

Maybe you have to live in Cali to get what is so obnoxious about the post. To me its all just a bunch of town names I recognize as Californian. (My dad is from San Jose so I was in that area a lot growing up but never enough to get a sense of why NoCal and SoCal don't get along).

Anyway, what kind rock do you have to be living under to have not noticed VPNs went massively mainstream in the past few years - and that was clearly not driven by illegal file-sharing which declined in the same time period. I mean, NYT and every other damn consumer site tells me every three months for the past couple years about VPN, case for the consumer, blah blah... Should be kinda a hint that whatever their bizarrely overblown fears of getting sued are (Zotti era Perfect Master thinking), when you have media company owned places publishing articles on the subject like... all the time, time to move beyond the Napster era paranoia. Instead of spending time pointlessly modding out such conversations, maybe they should try to work on attracting conversations that someone born after 1980 might be attracted to (although I guess aging hippies and Vietnam vets wondering about VPNs isn't all that attracting...). Or maybe going back to that Suggestions thread and maybe taking up some ideas? Nah.... Quote:

*shrug* I grew up in NorCal so everything south of the Grapevine and Big Sur is all butthole country to me. They're the rich bastards who grab all the water and make the Delta sucky and unswimmable so they can have eighty million swimming pools. It's really just a matter of perspective, and I don't see someone dissing Santa Barbara to be unforgivable. Generally I find Stranger's posts to be oases of sense in the general miasma of Durpiness.
