I've done the minimum weekend dutiful anti-entropy and now it's time to slack. I can slack until Monday morning, really. By solemn agreement, Sunday is the teenager's day to do the boxes. I'm still hopeful that I can get some work out of him on a regular basis with gentle persistence. He's supposed to do the turd patrol in the backyard too. I'm always talking shit to him, it seems.

I was up at 6:30, in the shower by 8:30 and out the door by 9:30. My son met us at the house and drove down to gift and transfer title to the Jeep we bought him a few years ago. When we originally bought it, we put it in our name for insurance purposes, but he's been on his own insurance for a couple of years now and the tabs for the Jeep are cheaper where he lives. His county got out of the whole RTA debacle so he doesn't have to pay an arm, leg, and torso for them.
After that, we headed to the little county airport here and had some breakfast. We drove back home and my son left to take care of his own errands and go home. I sat around here for a just a bit, and decided to go out treat myself to a pedicure. Love, love, love those massaging chairs and the foot and lower leg massage. My toes don't look like a five year old tried to paint them and it should hold up for a couple, three weeks. Got home, stripped the bed, and am washing the bedding. It's about ready to toss in the dryer. We've got dinner in the slow cooker and other than some minor putzing we're pretty much taking it easy today. |

I got the boat dragged onto the trailer this afternoon. A couple rollers need moving, but aside from that it fits on there quite well considering. I used the bow winch to drag the trailer under the boat, and since these rollers actually roll it went smooth.
However while loading the big 3 ton floor jack onto the wheelbarrow it slipped and the handle whipped around and slapped me. Didn't quite knock me down but I'll have a sore jaw for a couple days. Naturally that pissed me right off and I grabbed the stinkin thing and carried it to the garage. I got away with that too, and now it's quitting time. This more leverage less attitude thing sucks ass. Anyway, I now have one boat on one trailer and that puppy is For Sale. Time for a quick bike ride before sundown and then the evening feeding frenzy. Probably a big smoothie with yogurt nuts & fruit because I don't feel like chewing right now. |

We ended up driving up to The Park today. I am officially a geezer, I got my forever geezer national parks pass. Animal viewing is always a crapshoot, but today we rolled a natural seven. First we saw a herd of mountain sheep ewes and lambs visit a small pond where they ate the fresh grass and had a nice drink. Then we saw a marmot doing marmot stuff. Finally we saw a bunch of elk eating and chewing their cud. We drove up the old dirt road and had food at the cafe at the top. I had some white bean chicken chili that was quite good. Drove part way down and got ice cream. I am really tired now due to the hiking, but it was awesome.
Now that I have the forever geezer pass, we are talking about going up to see some of the full moons above the tree line. |

Oh, good job, 'Puna. The best scenery of all is critters at home in the wild.
It's another hot one in Phoenix, but I get to stay inside and practice sloth. I haven't got it quite right yet. It's the teenager's birthday I found out just this morning. Fortunately, he's into cars and I have a secret stash of Hot Wheels. This year he gets a '71 Dodge Challenger. I put it with a happy birthday note in the fridge in front of the milk where he is sure to see it first thing. That's a happy. On the downside, J got a little overwhelmed and is spending a few days inpatient to evaluate and adjust the meds. Best of it to her. On the kinda up side, I have a week of clean time from tobacco. I slipped last weekend. Between smoking friends over and roller derby I went through three packs in two days. I almost slipped again, but never did I crave when a ride was available, and I wasn't craving hard enough to walk a mile for Camel. So, yay me? I guess. I didn't feel like a smoker again until I was finishing them off Sunday morning. I scolded myself severely over the expense and reminded myself that cigarettes come out of pot money budget-wise. Bleaugh. In other news, I used professional services via Craigslist Gigs to clean my bathroom. I had a mental block about doing it myself. I think it's because of how many I cleaned as a professional caregiver. For whatever reason I think it was money well spent. That was yesterday, today's conundrum is a report of a broken ceiling fan. I haven't had a chance to see it yet. T messaged me about it at 4, but I wasn't up yet. He says he'll take care of it and I'll let him. I told him no worries, no hurries, with his wife in the hospital I can cut him a lot of slack. |

The day surprised me again, I got a text from the pharmacy just as T was starting off to take me to get meds and the grocery store for pickles and apples. I love pickles, they are another 'go-to' snack food when I don't feel like eating. I tried to take T and his crusty punk friend out for breakfast, but it didn't happen, Denny's was a madhouse and we turned around. We finished errands and I offered to order food, but the boys disappeared again. When they reappeared hours later, T ordered food and I got a Thai Shrimp Salad. It was pretty good. The film noir line up is now on Sundays and starts at five. I haven't made my afternoon coffee yet. I'll hold off until closer to six. Starting that late will see me through them movies. It's a plan. I just have an hour and half to kill until they start. No problem, I am a great slayer of time.

Today is hubby’s birfday, so we went out for brunch at a new Mexican place in a nearby neighborhood. It was excellent. The girl and I also got him a sous vide stick, which he has wanted since well before it became the new trendy thing—but being the new, trendy thing made it affordable. We’re having sous vide steak for supper. He is currently enjoying a blissful day of computer gaming while the girl studies. When the steak is ready, we’ll watch some shows and eat together, and he’ll be a happy Birthday Boy.

I got all industrious and kilt off a bunch of fucking blackberry vines that had been invading my spaces a bit. Also some sticky willy, which isn't nearly as fun as it sounds. I have a pervasive plant that looks for all the world exactly like belladonna--normally I tear it out too but it seems to actually be blocking the blackberry pretty well so it can stay. It makes pretty purple flowers and pretty black shiny berries and the leaves are nice too so we'll see how it do. Filled up my compost bin, I did.
Decided to say to hell with the diet and splurged on some carbs--it says a lot about me that when I decide to "cheat" I don't go mack down six donuts or anything, no, I'm talking about two slices of uber healthy Dave's Killer Bread to make a sammich out of my lamburger with asiago and mustard. I'm SUCH a rebel! Got all the chores did and next up is a shower, I'm all itchy from plant wrasslin'. |

I needed my fishtape today and I can't find it. But I know if I buy a new one the old one will show up pronto. I managed to make do with a long drill bit and some nylon twine. But the fishtape would have been much easier. I looked in the 5 places I would expect it to be and it isn't in any of them.

We have some fish sticks around here somewhere. They're handy, and also can double as pipe snakes in a pinch.
Weekend update: I spent a whole lot of time doing a whole lot of schoolwork. Today I ran to the Bullseye Emporium, Costco, and the grocery store, cooked a kick-ass dinner of grilled kebabs, corn on the cob, and sauteed summer squash. It was summer incarnate. I spent the first half of the evening getting us all packed up, and the later half doing even more school work. Despite all of this, I still have work-work that must be dealt with while on vacation, which makes me feel bitter yet virtuous (heinous deadlines on Monday for stuff that will require the input of people who aren't vacating and stubbornly refused to respond this past week; I wish I could ruin their vacations, too). I'll also have to attend a virtual class from the campground. Living in the future is a blessing and a curse. |

J is doing OK in the hospital, her spirits are up. She just might be there longer than expected. I hope they can adjust the meds until she can trust herself not to self harm during downswings. SMI is a bitch. T is holding up pretty well, too. He has school, work, and his wife to take care of, but you never hear him complain. It was the teenager's birthday too. I have him a '71 Buick Challenger, real American muscle. Well, a 2" version of one, anyway. I used to collect Hot Wheels, now I'm giving them away.
That all made Sunday busier than usual, and much less slothy. I'm hoping for a slow Monday. Slow or not, it sure started early enough. I might just go sit out on the porch while it's nice and even maybe a little chilly by Phoenix standards. |

That could have been a lot more fun. Yesterday I met my friend and his GF at a restaurant for a nice catch-up chat. We all decided that the lunch buffet looked good. And it did taste good on the first pass. But about 4 AM I was rudely awakened, and just made it to the bathroom before harfing up my toenails. I should have known better. Never eat at the buffet. But at that point I was still blissfully unaware.
After lunch I stopped by my uncle's place with a sixpack to talk about when I could come by and help with his boat. What do you know, the old boy sold it this spring. He's been threatening to do it ever since he started having trouble climbing the mast, but I figured he'd put it off forever. I was sad for him since he built that boat almost 50 years ago and sailed it around the world a couple times. But also was secretly relieved that I wasn't going to have to scrape and paint the thing any more. Too bad, it's the end of an era. I didn't plan to stay late but ended up catching the last boat home at midnight. Took the back roads home. Halfway home the skies opened up with a rare thunderstorm. For awhile there it was raining hard enough to be hydroplaning at 45. But I pretty much had the road to myself at that time of night so I just went slow until it tapered off. It's going to be another cool cloudy day this afternoon and I think I'll finish adjusting the trailer to fit the boat. Boat trailers tend to be bolted together with lots of adjustments for a universal fit. But the bolts are so rusty that I'll be using the torch anyway. The big deal is to keep the flame off the fiberglass. I have a couple scrap chunks of drywall that I saved for that. The stuff is amazingly effective as a fire stopper. |

Rigs, I'm glad to see you even though you totally over-thought South Pacific. totally.
I have had a Very Bad Day. when it went south? I made it worse with my lousy choices. yes, my choices have lice. they are that bad. ![]() and now for more omeprazole than I'd planned on having. ![]() |

![]() I have the hairy granddaughter over for the night and she and Shoga are having a lovely wrestling match in the middle of the living room floor. This is fine, except I'm about 99% sure they previously had a lovely wrestling match in a puddle of fine dust. My nose itches. *stifles sneeze* I'm sorry you had a bad day, Jackie, hope things turn for the better. ![]() |

Amen, Smartie. I really don't understand people who get high, then drink alcohol. Why fuck up the good buzz?
It's another hot one. Temperatures will be in the 110 range for the next few days. No reason for me to go out has developed yet. I'm med compliant, It works well to take them while coffee water is heating. I slept well, I was in bed most of nine hours. My coffee came out well, it almost always does and when it doesn't it's my fault. I brew it. Here's hoping all the 'Raffers are well and happy. |

145/91 was pretty much fine up until a few months ago when they dropped the ideal numbers down to like 130/80. Then again, if your meter is as off as mine is you pretty much have to drop ten points off each number to be anywhere near as accurate as a manual reading.
I'm really hungry but don't have much readily available munchy food. This displeases me. Should probably eat some salami and cheese then do a little shopping. |

I implemented Plan Salami and Cheese and while I was at it I took some chikin out of the freezer for dinner so the impasse has been broken.
![]() ![]() And hooray for music lessons--about a year ago my BFF just decided (apparently after years of hankering to try it) to learn to play the violin and is really enjoying it. I think we should all follow our whims, especially when it comes to things that improve our minds and teach us new skills. There is not one person on the planet so accomplished that they couldn't use a little more knowledge, right? |
