Favorite Christmas Movie?

Dunno know if any of you watch a holiday favorite each year, but we do in Chez Rigs (ok, I do).

White Christmas, starring Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Danny Kaye and Vera Ellen. It's got it all for me: humor, wit, tightly plotted, holiday sentiment that's not too mushy or soppy, some great songs (and some very odd ones), and low key romancing. There aren't many movies based on a SONG that do as well.

I almost bought Holiday Inn (another movie I love), but the over $20 price tag put me off. While this has the honor of being the original source for WC, it is dated (the Lincoln's Bday bit is painful to watch).

Other holiday favs for me are The Lemon Drop Kid (which debuted the Xmas classic: "Silver Bells"), The Bishop's Wife, Charlie Brown Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and of course the claymation/animated ones about elf dentists, weird postmen, Santa as a youngster and walking/talking snowmen. As you can see, I remain about 12 years old, mentally.

Not a big fan of Christmas Vacation or the one about Ralphy that I can never remember the name of. I would probably like Ralphy more if I had grown up with it, but I didn't so, it lacks that nostalgic charm for me (despite it being saturated in nostalgic charm).

What are your favorite(s)?

Even though they show it 9 bazillion times a year during christmas.

A Christmas Story is still my favorite. "You'll shoot yer eye out." FTW.

What Red sed x2. "Ho... ho... ho..." (My favorite scene is Ralphie's mom calling up another mom to tell her what her son said (according to Ralphie), and you can hear the kid pleading for mercy on the line.

I'll give a shout to the animated specials: Charlie Brown and The Grinch top that list, followed by Rudolph, Frosty, and the Little Drummer Boy.

I'm not as big a fan of the classics, but if they're on the telly when I've got nothing to do, I'll watch them.

Not technically Christmas themed but usually there's at least one Aardman production on TV on Christmas Day. Fine family entertainment!

We watch all the cartoon classics, as mentioned above.
But, I have to say that my favorite is 'A Christmas Carol'. The Alastair Sim version.

Love Actually - doesn't seem to have been shown this year in NZ though. (the other Kiwis can correct me if I'm wrong - I don't have the movie channels with my Sky package)

Wasn't there already a thread about this?

I like A Charlie Brown Christmas--in fact it's required, else it's not really Christmas. Also The Santa Clause, Bad Santa, and Eight Crazy Nights. A new favorite is The Polar Express, which I just saw the other day and thought was fantastic.

I'm still partial to Rudolph. Hubby is loading it, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Frosty and Frosty Returns onto the iPad for our trip to Tennessee, so I'm happy.
