What is this?
This bronze appears on the cover of one of my books but there is no photo credit anywhere. I've been trying to locate a title for the work or, better yet, a high quality photo. Figured someone here might know where to find it or, better yet, what it's called. I tried to paste a photo but can't so here's the link to my Picasa. Hope it works!

Here's what I know off the top of my head: it's classical Greek, if not in actuality, than in style. It may well be Zeus; Poseidon would have a trident.
It could be part of a group. I don't think I've seen a statue of Zeus sitting down, come to think of it, but he's the first figure I thought of. What is the title of the book? The context may help. Did you try Wikipedia? Try Greek sculpture, which is huge, but googling male figures in Greek sculpture won't get you too far, either! |

Socrates?
But I'm also curious about the title of the book. Also, the picture isn't very good, can you tell what's wrapped around his hands? |

It's the Boxer of Quirinal. The straps on his hands caught my eye and thinking them unlikely to be for warmth, I imagined them to be boxing gloves. I found him using "greek bronze male boxer sitting" in a GIS.

Here ya go!!! Almost at the very bottom of the page. Appears to be called Terme Boxer. ETA Damn you BT. EETA Like BT, I found them on a page dedicated to ancient boxing gloves. Unlike BT, it was a fluke as I gave up trying to find statues of Socrates and started looking for seated bronze statues of Plato and it was a fluke that all the terms were on this page. And this is why I came to you peeps.
Honestly, that was freakin' AWESOME! I'm still laughing in amazement, but I knew if anyone could figure it out, it would be someone here. Thanks a ton. BTW: The book is called Naked Warrior by Pavel and is a strength and conditioning manual using bodyweight-only exercises. Now excuse me as I stand and applaud y'all. |

I'm a day late, but I found the same link as Joey P by Google Image searching "bronze seated boxer". It just didn't look grand enough to be a god.

I'm a heathen. I've read that book a dozen times and still didn't recognize the pictures in the OP. |
