Windows network card error. Please help

I have a Dell Laptop running XP service pack 3, that keeps losing the network card at random times. The network card is not being turned off, when this occurs ipconfig /all gives me an error, the wireless icon remains in the systray but you can not right or left click on it to get any information. Rebooting the machine will bring back the network. Are there any processes that can be hanging things up? Any ideas? Thanks
