Anyone know anything about visual pattern recognition?

Hey,

I am embarking on a project that will involve visual pattern recognition. Other than understanding what it does, and knowing what photogrammetry is. How can someone who is a technical non-developer go about learning more about it?

I am more interested in learning the frameworks and implementations and then potentially hiring someone else to implement it, but I'll plan to learn what I can of the actual implementation.

Any thoughts?
