Unvarnished Truths is a blog depicting my attempts to write about things I make, and about things that interest me. Sometimes I may try to explain why this is so, or why something was built a certain way as opposed to another, but usually I am not successful. I think about the best that readers can hope for is to be mildly entertained.
First Finish Coat

This is how it looks with the first of three finish coats of gloss polyurethane. The table will be ready for delivery of the granite top at the end of the week. That will be the moment of truth. I have never built a table that will be required to hold that much weight, so I'm a little apprehensive. For all I know, when the granite is finally set in place the legs might collapse. There were design considerations that precluded bracing the legs farther down their length. If that should happen, I shall be very unhappy, but after I post pictures of the disaster, I'll pick up the pieces and start over. It's only wood, after all.
