Unvarnished Truths is a blog depicting my attempts to write about things I make, and about things that interest me. Sometimes I may try to explain why this is so, or why something was built a certain way as opposed to another, but usually I am not successful. I think about the best that readers can hope for is to be mildly entertained.
Cutting Boards and Such

Inspired by the unfortunate circumstance, posted on the forum, of an expensive bamboo cutting board splitting apart, I thought I would cast all modesty aside and post a picture of my cutting board, and a related project. This is the maple and walnut cutting board in my kitchen. It's been there 10 or 15 years...the exact number escapes me.

This looks like a cutting board, and could be used as one, but since it's only ¼" at the back, tapering to about 3/32" at the front, it isn't really intended for that. This is for removing take-and-bake pizzas from the oven, hence the long handle. It's much more suitable than two relatively narrow spatulas. I've made quite a few of these...they're very popular as gifts.

I'm still working on this: the two front corners will be rounded off, and the handle will become thicker towards the end for easier grasping. The restaurant cabinet interrupted my focus a little bit.
