October Honors (mini raves)

Just got back from Grand Rapids, where I attended The Judds Final Tour concert. It was awesome and a fitting tribute by Wynonna to her mother.

And I got a t-shirt.

My first geezer-strength flu vaccine didn't make me feel sick at all the next day, nor did it make my arm very sore. It had knocked my husband for a loop, so I expected to spend all Saturday in bed just like he did last week. But I was fine except for just feeling tired in the afternoon. A nap took care of that.

That's good to hear Teela. And not getting the flu is a big deal, it is not like getting a cold.

well, 'cause so am I. I live in the county seat of the county of Ingham. fun fact, Michigan is the only state where the county seat of the state capital is not also the capital of the state - Lansing is the capital of Michigan, is in the county of Ingham, but Mason is the county seat of Ingham county. another 'fun' story is that back in the Clinton -Lewinski scandal days, we here in this area had a joke that we were going to rename Ingham county Lewinski. Since we're part of a 'tri county area' with counties named Clinton and Eaton, so it would be "Lewinski Eaton Clinton".

pretty little town, we have a Mason Museum which (no shit) is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for like 2 hours per day, has a whole room devoted to a long ago baby food factory and another room devoted to Malcolm X who lived here for a minute or two when he was a kid.
and do a google picture search of "wooden soldier statues" and you'll see the statues that are located about a block and a half away from where I live. some folks put colorful (well, the school colors of Mason High) scarves on the statues in winter...

ok, so the tribute thread to Enzo on the repair forum is still going on, it's up to 10 pages. Just found out from the resident managers supervisor that they may be able to dedicate one of the park benches out front to him. the garden gnome I got to be placed out front (garden gnome laying on his back, with a book and a can of beer) will be here tomorrow, and according to some friends, the local free paper (the city pulse) will be having a reporter contact me to do a story on him.

he really was loved, honored and respected.

The in-laws have been moved from FL to MD, and tonight will be their first in their new apartment. We've still got to go over a few more times to help with stuff like setting up Alexa, rearranging furniture if they don't like what we did, cleaning their area rugs, and hanging picture. Plus I'll have to take MIL grocery shopping. But the worst is behind us (I hope!) FIL is thoroughly confused and still occasionally hallucinating. We're hoping once he settles into the new routine in the new place, he'll do better.

At least it's better for us - we're alone again! Bliss!!!

having just ranted, I need to now RAVE:

I just had a vacation that was very nice despite unexpected weather.

A big THANK YOU to @Rock who hosted and did all the driving which means I could concentrate on how beautiful and dramatic the scenery is in New Mexico!

I won't forget all the things we did because we wrote them down

also thank you to @SmartAleq for driving me to/from the airport and not even getting cranky when we couldn't find each other and she had to circle around multiple times!

I'm glad you had a good time Jackie, despite the fact that our two main priorities didn't happen- the balloon ride and a camping trip in the mountains. Maybe next time!

yes, it was absolutely still worth the trip.

another rave: Drum Church was pretty damn good last night, despite 3 of our regulars being out of town. That left 5 of us, so apparently we are up to 8 regulars!

You're welcome, dear, it was no problem. As I said, ain't my first time doing pickup at the PDX rodeo! They've sure gotten pissy about stopping at the terminal exits though but never fix the real issue, which is having multiple pedestrians strolling across the lanes in several cross walks. An elevated passenger crossing would be super helpful to basically everyone!

and I was so sleep deprived and confused! you asked if I was at Alaska and I could only see that where I was at was number 2 or something, I don't know and then all those islands!

last night I fell asleep/ crashed about 7:30 and slept through until some redoncoulous time, maybe 5 AM? which would be the longest I've ever slept at one time for.....years, actually.

anyhoo, it's all good!

Very mini-rave - I've just made a pot of bean soup and it smells wonderful!! And my grandson had been napping for nearly 2 hours!! So quiet accomplishment here.

Did I mention bean soup? Supper will be nummy tonight!

So our cable internet started dropping out randomly. And we'd never gotten the speed they claimed we should be getting. After enough complaints, they sent a tech out. Who said that the cable hadn't been installed correctly 33 years ago when it was put in and that there was still an analog trap on the cable that shouldn't be there. So he re-wired the run from the cable company box to the cable modem. And suddenly it is working way better and is much faster. I just downloaded some flight sim data and it just screamed.

I mentioned that I changed which Grease Monkey in town I took the cars to after the one I usually went to had the guy be a dick on the phone. That seems to have been a wise move. I took the Santa Fe in for an oil and filter change today and was in and out in 15 minutes. And they washed the windows while they were doing it.

I dropped Wolfette off at the airport and on the way back I did the triangle to go to the good sporting goods store to get ammo. And found out that a new In-N-Out had opened one long block away. So not only did I get ammo, I got a good burger. And it turns out that a double-double and fries is cheaper than McD's. I got there early, so the line was only 6 cars long, not 30.

Well, I just made two guy's day a better day today.

I was taking a load of stuff to the hazardous waste recycling place. It's really cool and they take all the toxic and dangerous stuff that you shouldn't throw in the trash. They also have a "store" where you can get the stuff other people have recycled and it's free. So if you need some paint thinner and they have a can there, you can take it and use it. Cool huh?

So as part of this load I had an empty propane tank that we got back when we had a propane BBQ. As I was loading up the cart to take my stuff inside, two hispanic guys came out with some painting supplies from the store. They were obviously a "two guys and a truck" handyman company. They saw the propane tank and asked if they could have it. I told them to take it and was glad it had a new home. Took the rest of my stuff in and got rid of it and headed for home.
