I am panicking
Too many things hitting at once.
Husband having major pressure at work. I am having some pressure at work. My supervisor---who has up until now been a big ally---is on the verge of getting fired for absenteeism. I can't say that that's not deserved, but...talk about backing the wrong horse. Finally, I have a staph infection. I have a big ol' abscess behind my ear that needs to grow for a few days and then be excised. Of course, I read about that shit on the internet and now I'm actually convinced that the infection will spread to my heart valve and kill me. I found out the Supervisor issue when I called her this morning after getting back from Urgent Care. I explained that I had gotten IV antibiotics which made me feel like crap (or...more like crap) and she said don't come in. "Oh, and by the way---I may not be here after today." Great. Missing work when someone might be getting fired for missing work. (Although to be fair, the issue is that 75% of the time she fails to call or otherwise communicate effectively that she will be out.) I'd take a nap if I weren't so damn anxious. |

Just a little question; were the supervisor's absences due to legitimate cause or just because they didn't feel like coming in that day? Sounds like you have extremely good cause to stay home, especially working in the health care field. In fact, our hospital REQUIRES that you stay home for such circumstances, so please don't compare apples to oranges.
Finally, you certainly need to relax... somehow. You know as well as any that increased stress only hinders the healing process. We've all backed the wrong horse at some point. Best thing you can do is take care of you, know that you're doing the right thing and get back on your feet stronger than before. We're all pulling for you and please keep us updated on your situation! {{hugs}} |

Take a Tylenol PM and take your nap.
Get up later and watch one of the stupid 'Judge shows'. Remember that you're good at what you do, so backing the wrong horse shouldn't matter in the long run. If your supervisor lands on her feet, then you have a connection for other opportunities. People on the 'net love to write doom and gloom health articles. You'll be okay - the antibiotics will start working soon. Don't worry. |

This is exactly why I posted this, instead of deleting it after I'd written it. I need smart people to tell me what's real and what's my mind working overtime.
Bodhiman, I would say there's a 50/50 (60/40? 70/30?) with her absences. I strongly suspect that there are some things that get embellished a little, based on what I know of her personal life. Thanks, peeps. |

Poor Jean Louise!
Can you get a doctor's certificate for today (sorry, it's so hard to suggest things when you are from another country!) A nap or a veg out in front of the TV would be a god idea. |

Deep breath, MJL. The Staph infection is not going to reach your heart. You got IV antibiotics, so while the abscess itself is still there, the rest of your system is being protected. It will get removed, and all will be well. And yes, the antibiotics will kick your butt a little bit, but your body needs to rest anyway.
There is absolutely nothing you can do WRT your supervisor. It's out of your hands. Either she will be there tomorrow or she won't, but in the mean time worrying about it will accomplish nothing. Rest, post, read, REST, watch something mindless, REST. The office will still be there in the morning. |

What Bodhi said.
And, uh ... what Lord Blackmore said. I'd add my own personal mantra (Relax. Don't worry. Have a homebrew), but if you're on antibiotics, the last third of it may not be such a hot idea. Try to deal with the stuff you can change as best you can. And the stuff that's out of your hands, well, stressing won't change the outcome any, so why worry?

You know, if more folks would just go for a bong hit and chill out a little, the world would be a better place.

When I was very stressed and prone to panicking I discovered that singing helps. It's hard to get all stressy if you sing because it requires you to control your breathing. So bellow out some fine tunes. Then masturbate.

I am giving you a hug MissJeanLouise and I agree with Severe Delays - pop a cd in your car, go for a long drive and sing at the top of your lungs.

I don't have any words of wisdom, but I'm sending you hugs and good vibes anyway.

I so wish it would just be legalized, and taxed and treated like alcohol, which is so much worse for you. I was a chronic, responsible user for 20 years, but now haven't had any for two years while my 'lazy' ass was looking for work, and didn't want to disqualify myself for anything requiring a piss test. Hang in there, Scout. Meanwhile yes, treat yourself well and try to relax, worry impedes the healing process. Give those white blood cells all your energy. |

I'm just taking it as it comes. I get this stupid acscess excised tomorrow, so that should take the focus off anything else. ![]() |
