COMFORT FOOD MEGAPOLL FINALE!

Apple pie vs Mac and cheese ended in a tie, so I've decided to declare apple pie as Most Comforting Dessert.

Lasagna is comfortably ahead in its poll, so it can face off against mac and cheese for the Most Comforting Main Dish crown.

I'm including a write-in vote section so that people who don't like either of these can have the fun of voting. However, these won't count towards the winner. Please feel free to lament about what should have won in the thread.

Now, for the final matchup. Drumroll please...

VS

Now vote for your favorite cheesy pasta goodness and head on over to the Tom Hanks megapoll!

As much as I used to love lasagna, I can't have it anymore, it takes all day to prepare, and dirties every pot and utensil in the kitchen. Meanwhile, mac and cheese in all its warm cheesy goodness is simple and doesn't make me itchy.

The secret to comforting lasagna is oven-ready lasagna noodles.

As noted in discussions, the secret to comforting mac & cheese is to start with blocks of cheese and not powdered cheese substitute.

I maintain that the Most Comforting Appetizer is a bowl of chicken soup, with noodles or dumplings (matzah balls) as per your upbringing. And the Most Comforting Side Dish is freshly baked bread. Anybody who strongly disagrees with me, the Pit is over there. ---->

We have Monday off because my boss wants to be able to work without the rest of us bothering her, so I'm thinking of baking some challah. And maybe an apple pie. And whipping up some mac and cheese. And finding someone to wheel me around on a hand truck after eating all that.

We have a bunch of apples in the fridge from an apple picking outing back in the fall. I like your thinking; perhaps we should use them up on Sunday.

Chicken soup should have won. However, chicken soup shouldn't have been separated out into different kinds of chicken soup.

If chicken soup didn't win, homebaked bread should have won. I don't think enough people have had good freshly home baked bread.

If neither of those won, hot cocoa should have won. I don't know what to blame that one on. Maybe too many people live in hot climates?

Grumble grumph.

Chicken Soup should have beat both of these with ease. Neither rates all that high for me.

I like mac and cheese. Even with powdered cheese. Or with cheddar. Or with gorgonzola. Or other cheese.

I like them both equally, but my vote goes to mac and cheese. It’s more accessible. I prefer fresh homemade Mac and cheese. Restaurant prepared is good also, but expensive. But sometimes I have to settle for boxed, if I’m in a hotel and I’m craving Mac and cheese. Shelf stable! Cheap!

Lasagna is a treat. Mac & cheese is what you dredge out of the darkest corner of the cabinet when there is absolutely nothing else in the house and your car broke down.

Chicken noodle soup should have won it all. Grilled cheese with tomato soup should be second. As Ratty said, homemade apple pie is Most Comforting Dessert.

Lasagna certainly beats out mac & cheese.

I recommend you avoid looking at mac 'n cheese dishes on TikTok.

So many ways to fruck it up... soupy sauce, crunchy noodles, curdled cheese. I weep for humanity, and the trogs who must consume it.

you are forgetting Jeeves or someone can make it for you, plus clean up afterwards.

or was that a different megapoll?

The most comforting of these two is whichever one is currently on my plate.

But I voted lasagna because I'm in a red sauce mood.

Tied up with two days to go.

Five persons have a chance to switch their votes and become a hero and able to drink for free in any Gweeb-Town, OR become a villain and pariah forever shunned in popular threads. The choice is yours.

Don't keep voting for lizards!

Nothing anything like so straightforward. On its world, the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford. "It is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them," said Ford. "They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates to the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards?"
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard," said Ford, "the wrong lizard might get in. Got any gin?"
"What?"
"I said," said Ford, with an increasing air of urgency creeping into his voice, "have you got any gin?"
"I'll look. Tell me about the lizards."
Ford shrugged again.
"Some people say that the lizards are the best thing that ever happened to them," he said. "They're completely wrong of course, completely and utterly wrong, but someone's got to say it."
"But that's terrible," said Arthur.
"Listen, bud," said Ford, "if I had one Altairian dollar for every time I heard one bit of the Universe look at another bit of the Universe and say 'That's terrible' I wouldn't be sitting here like a lemon looking for a gin.”

But a vote for M&C should secure you a place at my table.
