After seeing bits and pieces of Mary Trump's book, "Donald is a Nut" or whatever she called it, I really think he's just playing an ego games.
Maybe he also has something that's not out in the open, but we already know from the Mueller Report that Stone was the connection between Wikileaks and the Trump campaign, coordinating the release of the Podesta emails - he might be able to testify to Trump knowing about this, or giving orders related to it, but it's not really a big mystery.

Trump is getting nervous as is the RNC. Never once did Hillary or Obama lead in Texas and The Dallas Morning News has Biden up by 6 points.

Speaking of the R.N.C.: is the convention in Florida still on? At the rate things are going there these days, there won't be anyone left to mop up the drool after each session.

Yeah, Jacksonville is still on at the moment. Who's gonna stop 'em? Governor DeathSentence? I figure the only way it doesn't happen is if Donnie figures out a way to blame China for the cancellation.

More to the point, Biden's lead looks pretty stable. There's a small amount of day-to-day motion but the graph of Biden-vs-Trump seems like two horizontal lines, with Biden clearly on top. FiveThirtyEight has the poll information I'm talking about here; if anything, Biden is slowly pulling away from Trump, but the lack of volatility is what really makes me happy.

Another crack in the wall:

Court refuses to order Houston to host Texas Republican convention

Quote:
The Texas Supreme Court on Monday upheld Houston’s refusal to allow the state Republican convention to hold in-person events in the city amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

...“The Party argues it has constitutional rights to hold a convention and engage in electoral activities, and that is unquestionably true,” the Supreme Court wrote in its opinion. “But those rights do not allow it to simply commandeer use of the Center.”

Yup. No right to hold a convention on someone else's property without their permission. You'd think these dumb fucks would have some respect for property rights.

Wow, Moscow Mitch is daring to go against Trump by urging people to wear masks and take other precautions.

I'm sure the fact that he's up for re-election himself has nothing to do with it

Here's a good one: the Official Portraits of George W. Bush and Bill Clinton which, by tradition,* hang in the White House Foyer, have been taken down and moved to a room used for furniture storage. (Their replacements: Teddy Roosevelt and William McKinley. [Someone on YouTube remarked: "Both of those presidents took a bullet. Is he trying to jinx himself?"]) The White House has not responded to reporter inquiries about the matter.
_____
* Mugshots of the two most recent Presidents usually hang by the front door. Obama's portrait, apparently, is still "unavailable".

I'm surprised he went with two of the best Republican Presidents and not another Andrew Jackson and maybe a Nixon.

Mary Trump is publicizing her already record setting sales for her new book, "Donald's Got Major Mental Issues," by offering opinions on his mental health.

This one is enough to scare me.

Quote:
"Donald is a psychologically deeply damaged man, based on his upbringing and the situation with his parents," she told CNN's Chris Cuomo on Friday on "Cuomo Prime Time."

"He is not going to get better and he is without question going to get worse," she added
"...going to get worse..." It's hard to imagine how that is possible.

Aren't we already there? Portland's got some secret police detaining people without so much as a word exchanged. Nobody knows where they go.

The Reichstag Fire has been present since the start of the year - the Coronavirus pandemic and the BLM protests are all that is necessary to seize the kind of power that makes things impossible to change it without violence.

Question is if he's got the competency to take it that far.

I just read an opinion piece with this title
Donald Trump Is Living Proof of Osama bin Laden’s Success
The US’s militarized and nationalist response to 9/11 has accelerated the decline of the American empire.
I think the title sums up a truth that many of us understand. The article itself is barely worth reading — it meanders almost schizophrenically, much like my own rants do — but here is one paragraph:
Quote:
And if ... you had told me that, deep into those years of bleeding abroad and increasingly at home, a near majority of Americans would vote to ... send a suicide bomber into the White House, I would have told you that, though Osama bin Laden had been killed by SEAL Team Six in Pakistan and buried in the briny deep in 2011, Donald Trump was his living revenge, and that bin Laden had won twice—once thanks to those ludicrous, murderous forever wars across much of the Muslim world, and the second time thanks to the pandemic from hell and the president from the same place.

I see that yesterday Twitter removed one of Trump's re-tweets due to a copyright complaint from rock band Linkin Park. Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones have also threatened to sue the GOP for illegal use of their songs; I wish they would.

Interesting that business criminals all gravitate to the "Law and Order Party." Their feeling is that laws don't apply to them, only to blacks and other Democrat-voting lowlifes.

Bruce Springsteen has not sued Trump or the GOP for unauthorized use of his song "Born in the U.S.A." My guess he's just too bemused by the GOP's evident inability to notice that the lyrics do not support their lies, and are far from patriotic:
Quote:
Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says, "Son if it was up to me"
Went down to see my V.A. man
He said, "Son, don't you understand"
...
Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years burning down the road
Nowhere to run ain't got nowhere to go

Here's the cognative test trump took. He scored 100%.

The Montreal Cognitive Assessment is a 10-minute test. It’s one of the commonly used screening exams for dementia. The questions on the test vary in difficulty, but they include:

Six points for knowing the date and where you are.

One point if you can identify what a train and a bicycle have in common, and another for watch and ruler.

Three points for correctly identifying pictures of a lion, camel, and rhinoceros.

Another point if you can repeat the phrase “I only know that John is the one to help today.”

Another point if you can read the following letters: FBACMNAAJKLBAFAKDEAAAJAMOFAAB.

Three points if you can draw a clock that indicates the time “10 past 11.”

Pretty hard not to score a perfect score on that test, even for me.

They probably mean an analog clock, which is going to get interesting in a few decades as the people who grew up on digital clocks age into senility. Is it a symptom of senility if you never had a chance or reason to learn to use an analog clock?

I have administered that test many times and you'd be surprised at how low people can score and still be "socially appropriate"* enough their families have no idea they have dementia.

and I strongly doubt rump got a perfect score.

I had someone near and dear to me who waz mentally ill, not suffering from Reagan's Disease. Sometimes the mental health professionals would ask her some of the types of questions that were on the test Donny T-Rump claimed to have done so well on. The date and day of week were always asked. I don't remember most of them, but one that stood out waz them asking who the current Veep waz. Could bitch-ass Donny have gotten that one?

For most of the history of this country, the correct answer would be "Who the fuck cares?" Unfortunately this has become an important question lately.

The Guardian article has 4 screen-grab images taken from the MoCA test. (I'd show some here with IMG tags but don't know how — they seem to be protected. Mocatest.org also provides copies of the test but requires registration so I didn't bother.)

The test is somewhat more difficult than your Atlantic cite shows. For example, you have to tap your hand at every 'A' when reading that list. To get a perfect score you need to recall five words given 5 minutes earlier. Is there a cite that Trump got 100%?

Despite the nitpicks, it is very absurd that Donnie would brag about passing such a test. This is the test that your great-uncle Bennie would brag about: "Much of my brain remains unaffected by the disease. I don't need the locked rest-home yet!"

How did Trump end up taking such a test anyway? Was it at the suggestion of consternated aides?

I have no cite, but I'd hope that a signs of dementia test would be a job requirement past the age of 70 or so for anyone with access to the nuclear codes.

Probably just a pipe dream.

Trump was rushed to the hospital late one night. Late last year, early this year? Talk around the water cooler is it was a stroke. To add to the evidence, recall his problems drinking a glass of water and walking down a ramp. Another possibility is Alzheimer's disease. Didn't his dad die of it? Look at how incoherent and rambling he can be when he talks.

But who knows who got him tested and how. It's starting to look like Weekend at Bernie's. Republicans love mentally impaired Republican presidents.

The thing is, there are times when he does just fine, or at least well enough. Yesterday's press conference is a case in point. He read a long statement with no significant problems, then answered questions for several minutes without once going wacky. And the content shows that he's finally realized he is going to lose unless he starts acting like he's on top of things like the epidemic.

When my grandmother started to complain that my grandfather was losing it, we thought it was just more of her usual poking at her husband. He seemed normal to us.
After she passed and my aunt moved in with him (it was one of grandma's dying requests because she knew what was up), we learned that grandma wasn't just picking. Sure he had really good days where he seemed completely normal, but there were others where he'd forget what red lights meant while driving, or who my cousin was. In the beginning he could have nailed that assessment if you caught him on a good day.

The wife (the nurse) is betting it was a TIA. We had more of a few of those with my mom. They are totally temporary, but they really kick you off-line for a bit until they resolve. They also bode not well for the future. FYI, mom made it to 100.5 even with the TIAs, and was on top of things until the final week.

Trump has chosen Albuquerque as one of the cities to get a deployment of his "special federal agents" to "assist" with law enforcement. Local officials are dubious to say the least.

ABQ Mayor Tim Keller:
Quote:
There’s no place for Trump’s secret police in our city. If this was more than a stunt, these politicians would support constitutional crime fighting efforts that work for our community, not turning Albuquerque into a federal police state.
ABQ Chief of Police Mike Geier:
Quote:
I truly hope this is a not just a cheap political stunt that will only make our city less safe. We coordinate with our federal law enforcement partners every day. What is being described is not real crime fighting; it’s politics standing in the way of police work.
Another article quotes our governor and our attorney general.

NM Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham:
Quote:
If the Trump administration sincerely wishes to assist local law enforcement in our state in their regular community-policing activities, in data-driven crime-fighting initiatives, in protecting the public safety and welfare of New Mexicans, we would welcome the conversation. If the Trump administration wishes to antagonize New Mexicans and Americans with authoritarian, unnecessary and unaccountable military-style ‘crackdowns,’ they have no business whatsoever in New Mexico.
NM Attorney General Hector Balderas:
Quote:
It is very disturbing that public safety operations would be politicized to score cheap points, and on the front lines, law enforcement must work closely together to protect all members of our community. We will actively monitor this situation to ensure there are no civil rights violations in our community.

It can be asserted with great confidence that the November elections will be neither free nor fair. There will be much misconduct, mostly by Republicans and Republican-allied actors like Putin's Russia.

Much of the misconduct will be criminal, though mostly non-prosecutable. Some of the misconduct, e.g. GOP plans to install "monitors" in many precinct to harass and intimidate likely Democratic voters, will be reprehensible but not technically illegal.

The GOP has indulged in blatant vote suppression in recent elections; for example, under-equipping Democratic-leaning precincts to force queues of several hours, while voters in Republican-leaning precincts can vote easily and quickly. In the past such mischief has evoked minimal outrage (and no outrage at all from Republicans). I expect this election to feature even more GOP misbehavior than usual, especially with the pandemic and civil unrest available as excuses. It will be interesting to see how many Republicans implicitly endorse such misbehavior, and how few are willing to support democracy and denounce voter suppression.

Back to back headlines on CNN this morning.

Quote:
• Portland mayor tear gassed after speaking with protesters on presence of federal agents

• Federal law enforcement agencies worry their work is being politicized
Politicized? Fuk yes it is. Who believes trump or Barr would do otherwise?

None of them.

The fucking mafia has better morals than the Republicans.

A recent controversy is whether Yoho, a Yahoo Congressman from Florida, called AOC a "f______ b____." I don't know why this is crucial — in private Yoho and his ilk are undoubtedly bragging about their eagerness to "grab me some of that hot pussy and rape it" — but whether he made this much tamer remark seems to be the Question of the Day.

To get an answer I ignored both lying socialist outlets like CNN, and their right-wing counterparts like Infowars, and clicked to America's Fair and Balanced News:
Quote:

If you read this carefully it is clear that Yoho admits to the words, just quibbles with the context: he said "She's a f______ b____" rather than "You're a f______ b____."

To prove this, note the phrase "if they were construed that way." If the words weren't spoken at all, they could only be misheard. But instead they were allegedly misconstrued: IOW he did say them, but in the context "She's a f______ b____" rather than "You're a f______ b____."

So with that resolved we can get on with more pressing questions. Such as: Why can't the White House afford an assistant valet whose job it is to stop Prez when he's walking up to his helicopter with toilet paper streaming from his shoe?

Trump appears on FoxNews to explain just how very difficult the MoCA test is.

In other news, Trump complains that recent photos of him are "Fake News" while bragging that his hair looks great in the "fake" photos. Frankly I find the "fake" photo at right to look more human than the grouchy guy at left. Yes, he needs his make-up retouched but he shouldn't feel bad: I can't remember ever retouching mine.

I have a theory that this is how they used to make him up for his tv show. I base that on a former boss who did occasional commentary on tv and he would come back into the office looking really orange because he hadn't washed it off.

So the POS in chief thinks, "Yeah, that's the ticket, I'll probably be on tv at some point today, hand me the palette knife." Pretty sure he does his own hair too.

What makes you think that's his own hair? Or hair at all?

People on TV often get spray-on tans to keep from looking pale on television.

Main difference between them and Trump is they have people who blend it better and they don't wear that crap ALL THE DAMN TIME. They certainly don't wear it for personal appearances because it looks garish and creepy.

But garish and creepy is his wheelhouse! Also apt nicknames for a number of his offspring.
