I made my weight goal for starting the new year. Made it by .6 pounds, but I'll take it.

Good for you Wolf! Making a weight goal by more than a half pound is great!

I fussed over my garden this afternoon and pen the remainder of my holiday on facebook and re-sorting my library. I'm either weird or just old, but I'm ok with both.

My husband took a contract job with a large and popular employer a year and a half ago, was semi-promised a full-time position there, but in the end was let go, which was devastating.

But they called him back about six months ago for a year-long contract, and this time they did indeed take him on full-time. He's inked the employment offer and it's on file, and his first day as a full-timer is this Monday. He will be very well paid and the benefits are excellent.

He deserves a top-notch, high-paying full-time job. The culture of outsourcing jobs to contractors has left him under-employed for ten years, despite his excellence at his particular niche.

He's 64 years old. This new employer will always have my respect and regard for recognizing a high quality employee and not going the route of younger/cheaper. In fact, in that interim between letting my husband go the first time and then taking him back again, the employer did hire a younger/cheaper guy, but this guy fizzled out because he didn't know how to do the work despite his knowing all the buzzwords. My husband came back, promptly cleared away all that guy's backlog, and can do the work of three people by himself.

So thank you, big employer. I want to defend you in threads where posters bicker about your products, but I don't want to be identifiable to you. I'll always buy and promote your products to other people, though.

I just clicked "Accept" on a new job. Not sure when I start yet, but probably on the first. I've been way below market salary in the startup world for 9 years. Sure, I made some extra cash (nothing crazy) on startup stock, but I had no idea how much salaries had risen while I was out of the corporate world. I just got a 136% raise.

Teela, big congrats to your husband too. I remember you posting about his situation before and it must be nice to have that crap in the past.

Hooray for gainful employment!

My little bit of happy: The neighbor called from Florida. The table cover I sewed them fits perfectly and they're ready to start their gambling parlor.

Backstory: My neighbors are officially snowbirds as of a couple years ago. They have a 42" round table for playing cards at their FL house, but it was too slippery. Regular table covers were too big. They tried taping the excess table cover to the underside of the table, but that didn't work well. Neighbor met a woman who had a custom table cover made of a sueded fabric with elastic all around to hold it snug to the table and wanted to replicate it. I told Neighbor what to get at the fabric store, but Neighbor also doesn't sew. It took less than an hour to cut a 50" circle out of some 54" wide microsuede and sew a casing all around the edges for elastic. According to some tutorials I could have just stretched the elastic at the edges and zigzagged over it. That would have been quicker, but I wouldn't like the unfinished look of the edge and I wasn't convinced I'd get the tension on the elastic right.

Just checked the bike odometer and I did (3627 - 2032 =) 1595 miles last year. Wooooh!

It'd been my goal to get back up to at least 1000 miles on the bike per year. Back in 2014 I almost got there at 800+ miles. So goal accomplished! Now I just gotta keep this up.

Congrats on the new job and the raise, McNutty!

I had a pretty good workout today. I even tried some of the weight machines I've never used.

Another thing that happened during my awesome shopping day yesterday was making my next tattoo appointment. It's going to be right after my vacation, even.

Wile Eeee Coyote, suuuuuper genius. He's going to have a crossbow, G.I. Joe helmet, and shield with the I-Ching hexagram. He might be taking cover behind a large hexagram, the way Bugs Bunny leans on one.

Hexagram 3, Difficulty was the first one I cast for the new year. It was also static, very rare, indicating a situation with no end. Groovy! Job Security!

I also was offered a new job. A good job, but not my dream job, and they struggled to get my salary requirement met. Still, I accepted and gave notice to my current job... Who then turned around and gave me everything I wanted and more, including a salary that I looked at and said, "Are they fucking insane? I don't deserve that!". I'm also in charge of two high-profile projects.

I'm so happy. I love the organization I work for, but was underutilized. I know people say never to take a counteroffer, but I deep down knew I didn't want to leave. This is the right decision for me and for the organization.

Everywhere but Mississippi -- it's still 1963 there.

And no, that's not a political comment, it's a cultural comment.

But hey, this is supposed to be a good-news thread, so here's mine: Day 4 of Weight Watchers and I'm growing stronger. While I'm not past the "constantly hungry" stage, at least I'm getting used to the hunger. I've been through this before; one day soon my voracious gut will begin to realize the reduced rations are permanent and sulkily accept this fact. By mid-February I should be able to donate the 46" jeans to Goodwill. I'll be in 42s by June and then hit the plateau at 40" about August. This time, there's no going back.

So, following up on the company computer situation. They sent me one of the small-footprint desktop jobs and two humongous monitors. After using it for several days I have to admit, it's a pretty sweet setup. It's a helluvalot faster than the laptop was, and I have permission to transition stuff from my personal laptop to the desktop so I don't have to switch back and forth between machines. I used to have to use my personal laptop to access employees' schedules, payroll, etc. because security on the corporate laptop (which I brought home when we mothballed the call center) was screwed down pretty tight. Anyway, as my favorite Star Wars character would say, "Meso happy!"

Dear Luckyguy:

I know that the entrance to the bike trail might seem like a nice secluded place to park with your girlfriend but it's really not.

Went to my first Weight Watchers weigh-in night before last. Down 4 pounds in just one week. Soon I gotta' get out there and start exercising again. Still, feel like celebrating -- maybe get myself some more Waylon Jennings music!

Yeh, pretty proud. MsPuna has agreed that every successful week earns a musical treat. Gotta' be careful not to lose it too fast, though; I'm gunning for a pretty extensive outlaw country music collection -- basically, everybody mentioned in "Luckenbach, Texas."

I found my missing earring! I was upset when I got home from the gym last night and realized I only had one. The other one somehow ended up in my boot; I discovered it when I got dressed this morning.

No, those are held during the work day. I used the treadmill and several weight machines.

I never wear jewelry when I work out. Everything went in the zipped side pocket of my gym bag, or so I'd thought. One of the earrings somehow ended up in my boot. I'm just happy I found it.

My Broncos are goin' to the Super Bowl!! Eighth time in franchise history. I am so stoked!

Yeah, yeah, they'll get no respect, win or lose, but I don't care. My favorite NFL team is goin' to the 50th Super Bowl. Is yours?

Anyway, my family has had a special tie to the team this season. My oldest son is personal chef to #43, T.J. Ward. It's pretty cool, really.

No, but my favorite team hasn't played like a team that deserved to go there most of the season, and was plagued by injuries to boot.

Regular gas was only $1.49 at Costco today, but I didn't need any.

I had a fantastic make up shopping day. I spent the first half on myself, and got all the rest of the need be done, except for checking out a new gym. I still have good intentions, I picked up some on the road back from hell.

The dispensary was glad to see me as always, same at the vape shop and comic book store. Yeah, I live in a small world, but they know me there. (Thanks, Emo Philips) I did a surgical strike on Costco for four items I knew I wanted. The total was less than the annual gift certificate, so I walked away with a few bucks as well. Walmart wasn't very busy at four in the afternoon on a Friday, so I was home by 4:40 and was even able to let the caregiver go early. Tomorrow's my night off and there is a roller derby bout with my favorite banked track team, The Bombshells. It's good to be the Khampster right now.
