ETA: For me, the funny part was WhatJim's hysterical response to this. I don't dislike the guy from his time at Dumbo and Mellophant, but holy shit, he was over-the-top on this issue.
It was a bit bizarre. "Two adults have made a deal they're both happy with! Mods, mods, you must stop this horror! Message board integrity! Message board integrity!"

I've heard of Edlyn, but I was about the place from early 2003 and don't think I ever saw her post, and I can't Google anything from her. This looked about the last from Liberal, and we had TubaDiva snorting huffily at Lib, which went down like a dose of the clap. Six years ago -- odds are good that he's brown bread, folks.

Edit: I found a post from Edlyn in about 2003 - I can't check out her user profile or her post history on account of being banninated.

I agree with this. I think lots of single people feel pressure from outside that 'you're not whole unless you're with someone' (or at least looking, you freak who would rather be alone!), so if you truly say you're happy by yourself, why do you buy into the myth that others are peddling? If you are content as is, don't accept anyone else's vision for your life. Just do you.

Yeah, I get what you're saying, but I don't think Quasimodal is happy single, though. It seems like he feels something is missing. But I think he has a lot of confidence-building to do before he'll be able to have a satisfying relationship (which from the sounds of it he's never had). So being on his own and doing what makes him happy is probably the best thing for him until he gains more self-confidence.

And I still don't get why Monstro feels qualified to give relationship advice.

Also agree. He seems to really struggle with confidence issues.

As to the rest, I've been known to weigh in on stuff that I have no idea what I'm talking about, yet it hasn't stopped me before.

One of the symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder is "expecting to be recognized as superior even without achievements that warrant it." I'd say both Askthepizzaguy and SlackerInc have that particular indicator nailed.

ATPG reminds me of the ultimate overly-verbose narcissist, lissener. That guy was like the lovechild of :smug: and It'd be interesting to copypasta his lengthier bloviations into Word to see how many words he could cram into a single post.

While you do have the OP and a couple of chickens little going into a mild panic, mostly we seem to have people actually having a reasonable conversation about how people just grow at different rates. Interesting, would read again.

JohnClay's sister and her boyfriend think, in all seriousness, that he's possessed by an 'intellectual demon' and wrote him a long, batshit letter about it.

This is all true. And now makes me extremely sad for JohnClay. I have no idea what that means to him in the circles his sister runs in, but for my mother, Cruella, that was the most heinous insult she could ever lob my way. What a fucked up thing to say to someone, especially with mental health issues.

Oh, no! Please don't feel bad. It's hilarious to me these days and I constantly joke about it. I was just saying how screwed up it was from 'the inside' and what it meant. But no, my mother no longer has any power over me.

And neither does Bob.

The twit was named Phaedrus. He was a proto-Liberaltarian. His gimmicks:
1) He thought '99er Clark K(?) was Gaudere. Because....reasons. He bet Manny that he could PROVE it. (I think) Then the the two of them (Gaudre/Clark K (Doug K? Clark Something else?) simulposted.
2) He sounded just like Liberaltarian. I mean, precisely like him.
3) He claimed he was an old man.
4) He was a mycologist (mushroom guy)
5) He was an American Indian
6) He was loooongwinded.
7) He had absolute, scientifical proof of the existence of God. He'll post it tomorrow (no--really. Every time he got argued into a corner, he'd start a game of "I've got a perfect rebuttal. I'll post it tomorrow." and repeat until the other person got bored.
8) He was old and going to die Any Time Now
9) He was rich.

He was the guy who ratted out DavidB and Satan during their "invasion" of the Left Behind board.

And when he left, he had an epic goodbye meltdown that got eaten during some update or other.
.
I was curious, and went poking about. There is a long post where Phaedrus says goodbye, amd mentions the long reach of his influence or some damn thing, and threatens to file sexual harassment charges because someone in the pit told him to bite his crank. There's no name attached, so if i hadn't been reading the thread i don't know if i could have found it.

This is the post but you should really read the whole thread.

That was the second-to-last thread. He came back one more time in a now destroyed post. He posted about 30 lines of American Indian sounding gibberish (not actually Native American, just Indian-sounding): "Ha-no-ho-wah, reb-bab-nee-kwah" and so on. Then he said something like everything he posted was a lie, linked to a pic of himself (early 1960s Ad-Man looking guy--think "Darrin Stevens" from Bewitched). He vacillated between apologizing for lying and "Nyahh-nyahh. You fell for my grand sociological experiment". It was longer than an "Ask the Pizza Guy" thread.

Great thread. Apparently it was marked for backup among with other threads before they switched to vB. Then when they switched, those marked threads were the first ones to be thoroughly destroyed. Some of the olde tyme mods can confirm this.

The hell kinda dumpsters do they have where he lives???

Also, regarding potato leaves, he's either lying or fucking lucky because those things are poisonous.
